10.01.2022 Tapas on the Terrace @The Aussie Our favourite hotel on the hill is always looking for new and interesting ways to keep its customers happy. The upstairs verandah was opened to the public for meals last Christmas. Since then we have had restrictions on what we can do and how many people are allowed in an area. The owner, Rolf, who is a clever man and an excellent builder, has revamped the amazing space to fit covid19 restrictions and it is open to the public again.... With booth style funky dining, using comfy couches and fun décor, they have transformed the terrace area into a bohemian, surfy, Mediterranean feel. There are 6 seating areas, each with room for 6 people, see photos attached, and the atmosphere is one of laid-back fun. They have converted one of the rooms upstairs into a cocktail bar, they actually named it ‘Room 5 Bar’ which is perfect and it is equipped with all your favourites, plus they are specialising in cocktails to make your night just that little bit more special. Tapas and cocktails, my mouth is watering and I can’t wait to try it. They will be opening the Terrace for bookings on Friday and Saturday nights only, starting this weekend, although I believe Friday night is already booked out, as the regulars were keen to be the first to enjoy the fun. Minimum booking for a section is 4 people, so grab some friends and come and try the tasty treats. The Tapas Menu offers plenty of choices and will be updating and evolving through customer feedback and requests. Even better this is an 18+ area, so no kids. If you want to book for Saturday Night or even next weekend, you can do so by phoning the Aussie on 5482 1070 during trading hours. If you want to book the entire area for a function, there is a maximum of 40 people. We have a table reserved for Friday night and will be posting photos of the food along with reviews. We will post the menu as soon as it is made available. Australian Hotel Gympie

06.01.2022 FREE Music Concert Now - Nelson Reserve - 2pm - 5pm This is happening right now, unfortunately we were not advised until a friend rang me and then we had to go hunting for the information, so sorry about the late notice. Don't know if there is food and drink as they have not mentioned anything else.... Live and Local Gympie Region brings you an afternoon of world-class music with the Balkan-French sounds of MZAZA, local favourites Aspy Jones and emerging singer/songwriter Ashley Pel. Award-winning MZAZA, led by the enchanting French-Sephardic vocalist Pauline Maudy and her band of eclectic musicians from Bosnia, Latvia, Greece, France and Australia, play rhythms and melodies that tap into the beating heart of humankind. With accordion, exotic strings and percussion, MZAZA embraces diversity, the old and the new, the familiar and the foreign. It is the timelessness of the music and stories that fuels an intense live show, that has enraptured audiences across Australia and Europe and earned them supports with Baba Zula (Turkey), Violent Femmes (USA), and DJ Click (France). Aspy Jones and his band bring a lively blend of alternative pop/rock with a whole lot of brass thrown in. Their songs are an eclectic mix of infectious funky dance beats, quirky lyrics and colourful brass which will take you on a ride that’s good for the soul. Completing the line-up is one of Gympie's stand-out emerging artists, Ashley Pel. With her unique vocal style and a bunch of original songs under her belt, Ashley recently released her debut single 'Closer to the Ceiling'. This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland

06.01.2022 Dinner @ The Bunker Smokehouse and Bar was amazing. We have eaten Beauty and the Beards food many times, as they have been a regular at most events in Gympie for years, but it was lovely to sit and enjoy a yummy range of food tonight. The place was busy as usual but the food came out quickly and was demolished just as fast. The staff are lovely, warm and welcoming and nothing is a bother. Well done to Lauren, Jarrod and the amazing team at The Bunker. I also heard a rumour they are doing their famous Ribs on Sunday 18 October, we will keep you posted about this as we learn more.
