24.01.2022 15 MARCH 2018 29 APRIL 2018 Offering a warm welcome to our local suburb and those beyond, our inaugural exhibition took a fresh look at Suburbia through the eyes of a culturally and geographically diverse selection of artists. From the perspectives of Tangentyere indigenous painters who make keen observations of ‘outback suburbia’, to those from further afield with Daata Edition’s international video artists, this exhibition explored our complex and evolving relationships to each other and the places we inhabit.

23.01.2022 12 MAY 2018 8 JULY 2 This exhibition was a sensory invitation to experience Turner Prize Winner Laure Prouvost’s video work in tandem with newly commissioned installation and live work by Sydney-based artist Emily Parsons-Lord. Prouvost and Parsons-Lord created a playful and seductive pairing where they intersected human sensuality, technology and nature. Highlighting how we perceive the world through our senses they also playfully interrogated the ways in which we seek to ...make sense of it from everyday devices to innovative science, superstition and speculation. Prouvost’s video works Swallow and Lick in the Past invoked the senses touch, taste, sight and sound creating dreamlike scenarios that captured the beauty of nature and the freedoms of youth. The works journeyed us to the idyllic and timeless pleasures of the Italian countryside and to the wistful speculations of adolescents in LA. With humour, Prouvost seems to relish our once-natural state of communing with nature and the small but persistent ways in which digital technologies jolt us away. Parsons-Lord makes sculptural installations that bring together biotechnology and participatory experiences. Looking to past and future, this new work examined the timeless human impulse to reimagine and alter the environment, whether in physical or conceptual ways. It took inspiration from interpretations of atmospheric events as portents or omens such as the weather phenomenon of ‘blood rain’. For instance, in the immersive environment The Sky is Falling (then let us run) Parson-Lord reflected on human inflicted environmental damage and geoengineering solutions that will likely produce profound aesthetic effects. Generations to come may find themselves under a differently-coloured sky.
22.01.2022 Art X Music presents ‘What I Said’, the latest and unreleased track by Sydney based musician SPVRROW with video and artwork by Sydney based artist Chris Yee. ‘What I Said’ was written by SPVRROW and her good friend Jay Maaka. After an initial rehearsal, the pair ended up throwing the track together in an hour or so with SPVRROW noting that it was an incredibly organic process. SPVRROW shares that the words refer to MY love. She notes that while they don’t always mean what... they say to each other it’s all about swallowing your pride and moving forward after all love is a verb." This clip is brought to you from our gallery in Paddington with special thanks to, Vocals: SPVRROW Artwork: Chris Yee DOP William Suen and Benjamin Powell 1st Assistant Andrew Yee Song by SPVRROW and Jay Maaka Guitar by Jay Maaka Backing Vocals by Maysa Tippins Engineered by Sep Pourbozorgi Mixing and production by L Fresh The Lion Location: Cement Fondu
22.01.2022 We're excited to announce our first exhibition of 2021, 'Attention Tourist', launching Saturday 16 January 6-8pm In our third annual pairing of esteemed international artists with an early career artist from the region, we're thrilled to present a newly commissioned video series by Samoan New Zealander Christopher Ulutupu alongside selected works by acclaimed US duo Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin. Despite their different cultural backgrounds and polar opposite aesthetic sens...ibilities, the pairing highlights potent similarities and fascinating divergences around the performance of identity in relationship to place, speaking to ‘homelands’ and colonisation, tourism and new encounters. In our Project Space, Black Birds will present their new commision Cement Fondu X Daata Editions video installation 'My Gyul', while 110% Collective will take over our Art Store with a COVID-19 iteration of 'Holiday Feelings'.
22.01.2022 Lean in and let go with @jodie.whalen In Liminal Space, a new video produced entirely in the time of COVID-19, sublime imagery and transitory moments become symbolic analogues of emotional and spiritual states of being. Slow and repetitive like a meditation, the soundtrack is the driving narrative in juxtaposition to the visual narrative; it is the detail in the slowness and the stillness of the images. 17.01.2022 It is with sadness and deep affection that Cement Fondu wishes farewell to one of its founding Directors, Megan Monte. We wish Megan congratulations for accepting the unmissable opportunity to be Director of Ngunungulla, Southern Highlands new regional gallery, which will launch in 2021. They've chosen well. From behind closed doors in 2017 to our public launch in 2018 and throughout the past 3 years, Megan has been instrumental in shaping Cement Fondu. Together, we've presen...ted a program of dream artists, forged valued partnerships, hosted unforgettable live events, and turned our team of two into a team of many, a community of artists and arts lovers. Beyond her wealth of experience and commitment to the union of community and contemporary art, Megan brings warmth to every interaction. A dear friend to many of us at Cement Fondu, she will be sorely missed. While Cement Fondu's programmed 2020 exhibitions have been postponed until 2021 due to the impacts of COVID-19, stay tuned as our digital program continues to roll out and we get ready to announce the reopening of our doors. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

14.01.2022 Safe and Sound presents, ’Transmute’, the latest and unreleased track by Sydney based Glo, produced by Moses MaCrae (Mohi) and Benjamin Freeman (thedieyoungs). Transmute is brought to you from our gallery in Paddington and is performed amongst works by Emma Finneran, Tom Polo and Campbell Paterson. ‘Transmute’ was inspired by the idea of remaining grounded whilst the world around us moves and develops at an alarmingly rapid rate, making us susceptible to being detached from ...our surroundings, human connection, love and nature. Glo notes that when it came together everything just fell into place. I find inspiration in being in flow with people who are in the same state. With this particular song and in general. It's really magical. Project credits; Vocals: Glo Keys: The Dieyoungs Producer: Mohi Director: Gabby Dadgostar 1st Assistant: Christo Herriot 2nd Assistant: Carolina De La Piedra Sound: Sep Pourbozorgi & Cooper Doyle Colour: Justin Tran Exhibition: "Contact Us" 2020 Exhibiting Artists: Emma Finneran, Campbell Patterson & Tom Polo Location: Cement Fondu
14.01.2022 ‘Contact Us’ First Look Campbell Patterson’s work practice explores the ‘candid quirks and painstaking obsessions in daily activities’. For our upcoming exhibition, Campbell examines the emotional responses, personal boundaries and the abjectness of the bodies of strangers.

09.01.2022 Learn with @mechelleb_ Observe and learn from the video Loohk Mae - a Lao phrase that translates to 'Mother's child'. In it, Mechelle Bounpraseuth Barilla gifts her mother’s traditions to her daughter during this time of reflection and healing in isolation. From Mechelle My connection to Laotian culture was through my mother- hearing her sing Laotian songs and share stories of homeland life, dancing Lamvong (traditional folk dance) together, and learning to cook. G...rowing up as a Jehovah’s Witness removed many aspects of Laotian culture from my life through its teachings. The tools, techniques, imagery and memories surrounding food in my work enable me to reclaim my cultural experience and remain connected to my mother after her loss. 01.01.2022 If the pandemic is the great equaliser, then who is nasty? Who is savage? Savage by @jdreforma reflects on the racism that has defined Trump’s response to COVID-19 among other pandemics as well as the soft power exerted globally by American popular and political culture. It leans into the chimeric absurdity of contemporary media and domestic self-performance during our shared self-isolation.
