25.01.2022 It has been a crazy busy month so far, and I’m really looking forward to a week off in a couple of weeks! In the meantime, I’ll undoubtedly cope just fine while getting to hide under the neck of people like the enormous Ludic, while releasing his hyoid Yes, his gullet at resting height is as tall as me This one’s a bit of a special one, having injured his lower neck and being touch and go as to whether he’d come back to work. Between Osteo treatment, a new StretchTec girth to help his thorax work as best as possible thus taking strain off his neck, massage therapy from Mel Turner - Horse Massage Therapy and fantastic sympathetic rehab work to help bring his strength and coordination back, he is really starting to thrive. It’s such a privilege to be part of helping horses get their mojo back!

23.01.2022 You'll remember Betty, who I very carefully avoided fat-shaming, a couple of weeks back. Well today she had her post-partum check up. She had a somewhat intense birthing experience, so had her own fair share of aches and seemed very grateful to see me today. It is always a huge privilege to me to be allowed by a new mama to treat her babies, and having a well established relationship with Betty from over 2 years of keeping her tuned up she accepted me into her bedroom with gr...ace. Her 5 pups all had small signs of how squished in they were prior to birth, but two in particular really stood out as excellent examples of why being able to work on pups early on is of such huge benefit. The little teeny girl who fits in my one hand has been the obvious one lagging behind. Her rates of growth have been slow and while treating her we noticed she seemed mildly dehydrated, going by the lack of recoil of her skin. As she seemed to be having some troubles holding a latch Betty was kind enough to let me work on this little pup while she was nursing. Like in many human infants, even tiny restrictions in mobility of the upper neck can make huge differences to their ability to latch on and remove milk efficiently from the breast and this little lady was sorely lacking in the ability to extend her skull on her neck. Mini pup was then left to nurse while I continued with the others. The second one who really stood out only seemed comfortable curled up in a ball. We hypothesised she was quite possibly the one curled up in a ball in the x-rays taken the week before birth. I spent some time working through her body, gently encouraging a longitudinal stretch, and showed her human mum some gentle stroking stretches she could use while the pup was nursing. Back to mini-pup. Watching her nurse she was really giving it socks, showing excellent flexion and extension at the top of the neck, and with a latch strong enough to even manage not to be shoved off the best nipple by the bigger kids! Before I left her owner asked if I would mind helping her hold the pup while she gave her a little bit of subcutaneous fluids, and lo and behold, there was no skin loose enough to pinch. Her dehydration appeared to have resolved enough to avoid fluids for now. As the afternoon has gone on, progress reports show massive changes for these two little ladies. Mini-pup has a belly so full she can hardly move and has spent the afternoon nursing or milk-drunk. The little curled up pup has uncurled and is showing off her long legs, which now can be ready to start pushing her up and about in not very long at all. Also - have I mentioned how much I love my job?? Thank you Betty and Kim for letting me in to your nest so early <3
22.01.2022 Just cause a day isn’t complete without a mini-Daschund face and because her body showed the biggest changes when I thought we’d almost hit a plateau in her recovery! #animalbiomechanicalmedicine #animalosteopathy #caninerehab #caninerehabilitation #centaurusosteopathy #staroftheday

19.01.2022 Happy Horse’s Birthday to all my hooved patients! I feel like the luckiest person alive to get to spend my work life helping horses to feel their best so they can enjoy their work and lives with us. 15.01.2022 Ah but seriously.... My job is the best. Also - if you’re a Vet, Osteo or Chiro and want your workday to involve cuddling pooches back to health - the ABM postgrad course is one of the very best things you can do to invest in yourself and your practice. #animalbiomechanicalmedicine #ABPA #ABMPROF.com.au #
13.01.2022 Daschund vs Theraband. What better way to get those hip extensors and abductors strong again after spinal surgery than some resistance band work?! Jasper had surgery in March for IVDD and has come such a long way with #animalbiomechanicalmedicine and #caninehydrotherapy @k9_swim. Now we are really putting him to work each and every day with his Theraband exercises! Little dogs who wear jackets with D-rings really make such great patients! #caninerehab #caninerehabilitation #centaurusosteopathy #daschundsofinstagram #turnslikeaship
13.01.2022 Today’s new attire. It’s worth being careful as new Covid-19 clusters pop up around outer Sydney. I also have disposable masks for owners so everyone can breathe easy... so to speak
12.01.2022 One of the more unusual responses to work around the thoracics. This chap has had chronic lameness which has remained of unknown origin despite full veterinary blocks and lameness workup. I found plenty of dysfunction all the way from his wither through to his hyoid and while unwinding this he began protruding and flicking his tongue up the side of his face as I worked. My best guess is he has given himself a traction injury to the brachial plexus, and his body has been compensating like mad for this (or whatever happened) ever since, to the point his entire jaw and tongue apparatus has been affected. I’m looking forward to seeing how much change we can make to help him live a much more comfortable life into the future. #animalbiomechanicalmedicine #equineosteopathy #centaurusosteopathy #hyoidrelease #hyoidapparatus #lovemywork
11.01.2022 The power of good rehab. Raffy had both his hips broken and his pelvis fractured in 11 spots when he had a run in with a truck Loads of specialist surgery and 9 months of really diligent rehab by his owner and the scarring is almost all that you can see at first glance. As he ages, keeping his tissues strong and balanced will be hugely important to ensure he stays as beautifully sound as he is considering his trauma.

08.01.2022 The only time a lack of waist is a good thing! Betty is one of the fittest most muscular little dogs I have had the pleasure of treating over the past couple of years. She is kept fit with specific cardiovascular conditioning, fit paws exercises, rally obedience and more. She now has the unenviable task of carrying a belly full of pups and is doing it with her usual sense of style and competence. Everything has widened for the impending birth, her whole body feels just as str...ong as before, only wider! I wish Betty and her adoring support team the very best of luck next week when these long awaited babies make their appearance. You’ve got this Betty (like everything else in life!). Stay tuned for squee overload pictures when Betty and her bubs have a post partum check up and tune up in a couple of weeks time #animalbiomechanicalmedicine #caninepregnancycare #canineosteopathy #howmanypups? #staffordsofinstagram See more
07.01.2022 The beautiful almost 30 year old Molly all zenned out after her treatment. She’s a Percheron, she’s enormous, she lucked out with fragile abscess prone feet to carry her enormity around and her body works very hard to keep her moving. Her gut has previously also fed into her issues. Fortunately she has the best mum who gives her every possible approach to wellness including #animalbiomechanicalmedicine #equinepodiatry #equineherbs #fibreessential and #equineacupuncture @drjenlugton @k9_swim @drrobwillis and she’s feeling better than ever. Settling her gut and her feet has her body feeling better than I’ve felt it in ages and now all I have to do is help ease her regular old lady achey joints @ K9 Swim - Hydrotherapy Centre For Dogs - NSW
07.01.2022 What cats’ have to say about Osteopathy:
07.01.2022 Daschund of the day. Little Reggie had spinal surgery for Intervertebral Disc Disease back in February and whilst he’s made some progress with hydrotherapy, he hasn’t progressed as well as would have been expected with diligent rehab. He remained paralysed in both hind legs though showed some good responses to paw stimulation and deep pain is intact. He had his first #animalbiomechanicalmedicine session a fortnight ago and has since started being able to balance for around 10-15 seconds in a stand and the tone of his paraspinal and hind limb muscles has improved immensely, but he still has a long way to go to get his back legs working again #caninerehabilitation #canineosteopathy #daschund @k9_swim

05.01.2022 This bum here on the left belongs to a boy who’s had quite the chequered past behaviourally. Having one hind leg which is doing a huge portion of the work and another which points off in a random direction is unlikely to have assisted him in finding his best work ethic. These sorts of signs of imbalance are always a really good thing to watch out for as indicators that your horse has a very good reason to down tools sooner or later. Watch for a repetitively rested leg, more f...illing in the visible veins and arteries of a limb, uneven hoof wear or growth, or uneven muscle development. These are just some of the alarmingly common signs of physical struggles. On the right we see his freshly treated bum. It’s obvious once his joints are pointing in more appropriate directions how unevenly the muscles in his hind quarters have been working. The improved balance in his pelvis and hip will help him start using those muscles evenly, which not only improves physical capacity but also can significantly impact their willingness to try. Imagine how enthused you’d be to go for a run if one leg wasn’t feeling fully capable of pushing you in the desired direction? A good month of going back to the basics and rebuilding his symmetry in work as well as maintaining the new symmetry in his pelvis and hind limbs, and with some sympathetic horsemanship thrown in, we should have a much happier chap! 02.01.2022 Ok patient people! I am finally, after much disruption for at least a handful of reasons over the past few month, putting in the order for Total Saddle Fit girths. The StretchTec girths have impressed me hugely, with their really sturdy elastic at the sternum which seems to make every horse i've tried it on very comfortable and noticeably more free in their movement. They also have several other great looking products which help both horse and rider, so if there is anything... you want me to get please shout ASAP. The order is going in Monday 3rd by 5pm, so have a good look at their site www.totalsaddlefit.com and see if there's anything you'd love to try. Delivery times from the USA at this point, with the whole Covid thing is around 3-6 weeks, hopefully on the quicker end of the scale! Don't forget, the StretchTec girth is available in Dressage and Jump styles, though currently only in brown leather in the jump style, and the plain shoulder relief girths also come in western styles. If there's something you want, find the SKU on the TSF shop page and let me know!
01.01.2022 A little bit of info about our profession and legislation as it currently stands. Making sure your practitioner has the best possible training is a tricky thing while there is no governmental regulation, so our goal as an association is to push for addressing the legislation state by state to help ensure your animals safety and best interests are always the primary goal in treatment.
