21.01.2022 PENGUIN FORESHORE REMEDIATION & UPGRADE PROJECT | REMINDER Works on Johnsons Beach Rd, Penguin will begin on Monday 14 September and will be completed in this area by early to mid November (opened back up to the public). Works will include, removal of existing footpath, garden beds, rock revetment works, new concrete path & also the car parking area. Please note, Johnsons Beach Rd will remain open during this time but please remain cautious if travelling in the area as traff...ic management will be in place. The current fencing area along Main Rd (adjacent to the foreshore playground) will become an official work site from Monday 14 September and the footpath will remain open to the public. From Monday 28 September and during the week until Friday 2 October, the footpath and nearby identified carpark spaces will be closed off due to the delivery of required equipment. The fence will be moved back, carpark spaces and the footpath will reopen to the public on the afternoon/evening on Friday 2 October. Council regrets the inconvenience caused by this closure and asks for cooperation in avoiding the construction site during this period.

21.01.2022 FREE EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR OLDER RESIDENTS Older residents in Central Coast living with chronic health conditions now have access to a free, strength-based exercise program designed to boost their quality of life. The exercise program is a 14-week course designed to improve activity levels particularly if you have a long-term health condition, such as arthritis, osteoporosis, heart disease, Parkinsons disease, depression and more. ... If you are an older resident and have, or at risk of developing, a chronic health condition please contact your GP or healthcare provider and ask about a referral to join the program. The website www.exercisetreatmentprogram.com.au has more information for participants and health professionals, plus an online referral form for health professionals. A 14-week program will commence when there are enough referrals in an area, class sizes are between 6 and 10 people.

13.01.2022 SURF LIFE SAVING AUSTRALIA | AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE, CLUB OF THE YEAR WINNER PENGUIN Penguin Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) was awarded National Club of the Year, the first time a Tasmanian Club has ever receive this award!... The DHL Club of the Year award encourages and recognises outstanding achievements in club development that results in SLSA clubs providing safer beach and aquatic environments for the community. Penguin SLSC has continued to commit to their five-year strategic plan which has seen them not only exceed their life saving requirements but also their engagement with the broader local community. This has been possible through increased member numbers which allows for roving patrols, facilitating, and strengthening their connection with the local school, sending quadruple the number of Nippers to States and have tripled their number of advanced award holders, all with only 174 members. Add to this, the Club has provided clear pathways for all members to become better life savers and at the same time working with fellow clubs in the area to deliver valuable community education activities. This award is cause for great pride and celebration of 90 years of fine history within the Penguin community by the clubs dedicated volunteers over this period. Mayor Jan Bonde congratulates the Penguin Surf Life Saving Club on this outstanding achievement.

06.01.2022 TARGA TASMANIA 2021 | CENTRAL COAST STAGES After cancelling this year’s event due to Covid-19, Targa Tasmania is planning to resume their rally event in April 2021. The 2021 route includes four stages in Central Coast: ... Two on the morning of Wednesday 21 April 2021; and Two on the morning of Thursday 22 April 2021. Each of the stages will require road closures of up to four and a half hours. All affected residents have been notified by letters, which were delivered last week (9-13 November). Please see below images from Targa Tasmania showing proposed road closures and area maps of the four stages. Residents or members of the public who wish to raise any concerns are welcome to write to the Council by Wednesday 2 December 2020. 02.01.2022 EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST | CAF OPERATIONS AT THE ULVERSTONE CULTURAL PRECINCT The Council invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from organisations and individuals to operate a new caf in the Ulverstone Cultural Precinct building (currently under construction).... The Ulverstone Cultural Precinct development will provide a modern hub for local and regional tourism and public education. It will co-locate the Ulverstone Visitor Centre and local History Museum with a new science centre, planetarium, gallery, and workshops for local arts, crafts and cultural makers. A prominent position on the building ground floor is to be developed as a caf or similar contemporary food and beverage enterprise. The Council now invites EOI from interested parties, to identify a preferred operator for the caf enterprise. We are receptive to applications from any interested parties, including commercial operators, community organisations, and social enterprises. An appropriate tenancy and operations agreement will be negotiated with the preferred operator, who will have opportunity for input into the interior design and fit-out of the space. On completion of sealing, the Reibey Street leg of the bridge roundabout may be able to be opened allowing for two way traffic to resume in Reibey Street. ...
