25.01.2022 In case you have been stockpiling alcohol. Some advice on alcohol for gastric sleeve patients.

25.01.2022 South Australia is going back to full capacity next week for surgeries but NSW is still thinking about it. https://www.smh.com.au//hospitals-face-backlog-of-400-000-

22.01.2022 Update. Yesterday on 11 May, it had been widely expected that the government would allow an increase in elective surgeries such as gastric sleeves. Sadly, this was not the case. There are still concerns that increasing elective surgery would exhaust the equipment and drug supplies in our hospitals necessary to deal with a possible upsurge of Covid, should a second wave arise. Therefore, the government has NOT authorised an increase in elective surgery numbers at this stage a...nd this decision is expected to be reviewed in about two weeks' time depending on the number of Covid cases. Should the strict quota on the number of cases remain, it is possible that patients booked for late June, July may need to be deferred again. Again we sincerely apologise for the disappointment that this will cause to many waiting patients. We greatly appreciate your continued understanding and support in these unprecedented times. Dr Ken Wong and team https://www.smh.com.au//drug-shortages-lower-icu-capacity-

20.01.2022 Today was our last operating day for the year. Grateful for the team that has worked through a most challenging year and is still smiling. Despite the challenges of Covid and stoppage of operations for 5 weeks earlier this year, we still performed about 450 bariatric operations including gastric sleeves, bypass, band removals. For over 60 percent of our operations, we are now able to offer TILS surgery Three Incision Laparoscopic surgery. We hope to be able to increase this... percentage in the future. Less cuts means less pain, less scars, less hernias and better recovery. Face to face consultations have largely been replaced by video and phone consultations and hence, we have often met our patients for the first time in the flesh on the day of operation. We would like to thank all our lovely patients for their support during these testing times. Earlier this year, about 100 patients needed rescheduling of surgery without any definite time frame due to the uncertainties of Covid. Given the current up surge in NSW, we may yet face these problems again and we appreciate more than ever your patience and support. Our office has closed for the year and will re-open again on 4th January 2021. We look forward to working with past, present and future patients. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year and your ongoing success in your journey for better health. Much love and gratitude. Dr Ken Wong and team

19.01.2022 For our upcoming patients, please note the latest NSW Health alert about hospital restrictions on entry for patients from certain postcodes and hotspots. Please contact the hospital if needing clarification and email us if we need to reschedule your surgery.

18.01.2022 In the last minute, we have just found out that gastric sleeve surgery will be allowed to resume at our hospital!. Yes, starting next week! We have not got all the details yet but it looks like we can do a very small number per week, essentially 25% of what we used to do. Our clinic used to provide gastric sleeve operations for about 50 patients a month pre-Covid, so our rough calculations is that we will be allowed to do a quarter of that for now. The government wants us ...to do much less than pre-Covid so as to conserve resources in case the virus flares up again. The other restriction is that we are not allowed to offer revisional bariatric surgery right now as it is higher risk surgery such as band to bypass or sleeve to bypass. This will change in due course. The government will review its position on 11 May. Please be patient with us as we try to contact all of you to reschedule surgery and we again apologise if we cannot fit all of you in as soon as you would like due to the government restrictions on the numbers allowed. Hope to see you soon. Dr Ken Wong and team

17.01.2022 Update. Finally, the NSW government has increased the quota for elective surgeries. We are now allowed to perform 75% of what we used to do before Covid disruptions six weeks ago. This is great news as it means that there are vacancies in our operating schedule over the next few weeks as they had been booked very lightly based on the previous government restrictions. Please contact us if we can be of assistance in bringing your surgery forward. Be aware though that things ca...n change very quickly all of a sudden e.g if Covid flares up again, the government could suddenly decide to stop everything again. The other great news is that in our region of the Central Coast, for the first time ever, we have not recorded any new Covid cases for one week. Hopefully this continues. Look forward to seeing everyone soon and keep up the social distancing. Dr Ken Wong and team

17.01.2022 We are back! Our office has reopened and surgeries will start later this week. Best wishes to everyone who have allowed us to be part of their journey for better health and we look forward to working with all our new patients this coming year. Goodbye 2020. It was a tough ride. Bring on 2021. For a bright and better future. We got this.... Dr Ken Wong and team

10.01.2022 Are you guys ready? Stay tuned...

09.01.2022 Good for the team to be back at work after 5 weeks Covid lockdown. Doing our four gastric sleeves for the week as per the current government quota.

09.01.2022 TILS surgery Many of our patients ask us why they "only" received three tiny cuts after gastric sleeve or bypass surgery when social media and friends from other clinics received four, five or six cuts. When we started back in 2009, we also made five or six cuts.... Thousands of gastric sleeve patients later, around early 2017, our clinic started offering Three Incision Laparoscopic Sleeve (TILS surgery). Since then, about 70% of our patients have received TILS surgery. So why is the number of cuts important? Less cuts means: -less scarring - better cosmetic outcome - probably less pain - less infection risk - faster surgery / less time under anesthetic/ probably better recovery process Longer term, less chance of hernia formation - just less wounds to deal with. Our clinic constantly seeks to improve patient satisfaction and TILS surgery is just one of the many ways we are refining and improving what we do. #TILSsurgery #gastricsleeve #gastricsleevesurgery

09.01.2022 Just heard the prime minister's press conference. A bit unclear as to what it means for gastric sleeve and bypass surgeries. We will need to wait for clarification from state and local authorities over the next few days. Will keep you guys posted.

08.01.2022 We enjoy treating challenging patients. This week we successfully completed Three Incision Laparoscopic (TILS) gastric sleeve on a 250kg BMI 75 man after he was rejected for surgery by hospitals elsewhere for being too obese.

05.01.2022 7.45am Getting ready for a big day. 10 gastric sleeves to do. Everyone getting ready to do our best and hopefully giving 10 new leases on life.

04.01.2022 UPDATE: We have been busy rescheduling patients for their surgeries and wanted to clarify some of the restrictions and difficulties we are still experiencing. To recap, all surgery was stopped in late March. This caught us and everyone by surprise and many patients that had been booked in March, April, May were rescheduled to later this year. Since the beginning of this week, we have been allowed to reschedule "low risk, high value" surgery by the government.... However, we were only allowed to reschedule a very small number. To give you an example, before Covid, we were often able to perform 9 or 10 gastric sleeves in one day but now we are allowed to schedule only 3 or 4 in one day. We are allowed one operating day per week. Therefore, the backlog of people waiting for surgery will be ongoing as what used to take us one day to do now takes us three days to do. So as of writing this post today, we are up to rescheduling people who were booked for surgery on the 9th April originally. We are at this stage unable to book "high risk" surgeries such as gastric bypass or revisional surgeries but gastric sleeves are fine. These rules will be reviewed again by the government on 11 May and we expect to hear from the Prime Minister or the Health Minister next week. Be assured that we are doing everything we can to offer surgery as soon as legally possible We really appreciate your patience and understanding. Dr Ken Wong and team.

04.01.2022 Update. Hello everyone. Hope all is well and thriving through Covid and isolations. Today, we received confirmation from our hospital and government that from 1 July, we can resume full operating capacity. This is subject to ongoing review with regards to Covid numbers.... This means that we will be able to operate every Thursday as well as one Tuesday and one Wednesday a month for your convenience. This is great news and we think we have offered places to all patients in the upcoming weeks to all those whose gastric sleeve surgery has been delayed by the recent Covid related restrictions. Generally, we are leaving revisional surgery patients, e.g bypass patients in their allocated date. Please contact us if we have missed anyone. We appreciate everyone's patience and kind support in the past few months where there has been delays and unexpected changes. We are still predominantly providing consultations via video and phone facilities for everyone's safety. Hopefully we do not get any further lockdowns and we look forward to providing ongoing quality service. Stay safe and kind regards Dr Ken Wong and team PS: Currently, we have vacancies for August if we can be of assistance to others who may be experiencing delays and backlog jams at other clinics.

03.01.2022 As of writing this morning, we still have not been given the go ahead to proceed with bariatric surgery from our local hospitals for next week. Please be assured that we have been in regular discussions with the relevant authorities as we are just as keen as you are to get going. The issues seem to be at the State Health Department level with regards to protective equipment supply and case volumes with the resumption of other types of surgery. We understand that many of our patients have been waiting patiently for surgery and look forward to a positive change. We will continue to keep talking to our hospitals and keep you updated as we receive more information next week. We appreciate your continued understanding, patience and support. Have a great weekend and stay safe. Dr Ken and team

01.01.2022 Update. Unfortunately, we have just confirmed with hospital administration that there are no gastric sleeve surgeries this week at Gosford Private Hospital. It looks like May 11th will be the government's next review date for expanding elective surgery but if we hear anything before that, we will be sure to let you know. Like all of you, we are keen to get going. Again, we appreciate your patience, tolerance and understanding. Stay safe and strong.
