20.01.2022 I thought I’d share some information about the different styles of classes that we run. In order to personalise the classes as much as possible our matwork classes have a group focus as well as your own individual goals. Because we don’t run drop in sessions but instead run termly classes this means that the Instructor always knows which clients are attending the classes and plans and schedules the exercises for your needs and can learn more about you. First up- ... OVER 50’s PILATES This class is open to our Golden members of the community! In this class we have added focus on balance and fall prevention as well as bone strength. Pilates can be great as we age as it is a low impact form of exercise that strengthens you without putting too much strain on the joints whilst keep your mobile and feeling energised but not worn out. In our Over 50’s sessions I also take the time to adjust any exercises to suit your physical capabilities. Some clients that prefer not to go up and down to the floor can have standing or seated alternatives to all exercises. Exercising as we age has so many benefits and I’ve been attending Continuing Education Courses in this field over the last few years. 18.01.2022 Do you love to stretch? Or do you forget to add it to your exercise routine? I don’t like to just think of achieving flexibility as static stretches that are often done at the start or end of an exercise routine, instead my focus is also on joint mobility and how to release tension in muscles of the body throughout a class in compliment to the muscles that we want to strengthen. 17.01.2022 Starts 22nd October A 6 week course of Pregnancy Pilates to aid in birth preparation. These classes are specifically designed for your Pregnant Body. They can help strengthen and prepare the body for birth which can also aid in the healing process afterwards. The gentle stretches and movements can also assist with the aches and pains that come when pregnant. We also combine this with a guest speakers who are professionals in birth support and beyond.... 05.01.2022 SPINE HEALTH PILATES Thursdays 6-645pm, Hamlyn Terrace My Spine Health Pilates was created because often when I tell people I’m a Pilates Instructor the first thing people start to tell me is ‘Oh I have a bad back that I need help with’ and secondly, ‘I need to improve my posture’... Although Pilates is great for Spine Health and all Pilates exercises are great for posture improvement not all Pilates exercises are good for those with bad backs. For example, if you have bulging disc issues then the abdominal ‘sit up’ exercises or bending forward with a curved spine may actually add extra pressure to disc impingement. In our Spine Health classes the class sizes are small in order to provide you with enough individual attention. Clients in the class understand that others may need a bit more attention at certain times in order for me to adapt exercises for your body specifics and are willing to be patient. Each term we also have sessions that focus on fascia release techniques on other parts of the body (feet and shoulders) which may be be having and effect on how you feel in your Spine. This is not a get-fit-quick class, this is a slow paced class that aims to tone, mobilise and stretch you at a Remedial pace whilst also helping you to gain a better understanding of your body. This class is suitable to beginner and those with minor back aches who have been recommended exercise by their GP. Our next 8 week course starts 15th October. 01.01.2022 I’ve been utilising the arc for this bridge series in the studio this week. It’s been so hopeful for so many clients different needs. the client who has neck pain and finds the support of the arc takes the stain out of her neck muscles and shoulders the client who has lower back pain and finds traditional pelvic curls aggravates it... the client with osteoporosis who we avoid forward flexing exercises with the client with hip pain after a recent fall working on hip strength and stability the client who is stuck on front of the computer all day and loves how it opens up her body. the client having a stressful time at home at the moment who loved just lying on the arc for a moments de-stressing What is amazing about Pilates is that the same exercise can mean so many different things to different people, but what is important is where we put the focus and why.
