12.01.2022 ** Round 5 Reserves Review ** Centrals 6.4.40 Def by Souths 9.963 CENTRALS TRINITY BEACH Goal Kickers: J. Wilson 2, J. Davies, T. Potter, V. Chap, E. Barewoi... Best Players: J. Anderson, T. Potter, D. Ryan, A. Bulkua, J. Davies With a nice win over North Cairns it was time to face the other end of Cairns. The Cutters had played the undefeated Crocs the week before and only went down by 26 points, so we knew we had a big game on our hands and would have to give 100% from start to finish. Once again there was a shuffle of ins and outs as we welcomed back Josh Wilson, Sean Clement, EJ and the legend himself Jordan fogdog Fogarty to name a few as cover for some lads that were promoted to A grade. The game started off well for us again with the centre clearance going our way and the ball being locked in our forward line. This led to a few shots and eventually a goal to Tom Potter. Souths got one back before Wilson registered his first goal for the season with a nice snap over his left shoulder. Us 15 them 7 The second quarter was like a warzone we had men dropping like flies first it was Pig Potter with a calf injury, then Manser also with a calf injury, then chop with a cricket ball sized lump to his knee and finally to cap it off we lost our runner to a calf injury. A creative restructure of water boy to runner saved us there, thanks Syd. Even with the injuries we managed to kick another goal and were still in the fight at half time. Us 21 them 23. The boys showed a lot of fight and character in the third quarter and a great hanger by Wilson brought the crowd to their feet. However, the class of some of the Souths players led to a few goals. We managed to steal one back with a goal from Vuochy, who worked tirelessly on the wing unchanged all day. Our backline was holding firm and our midfield were working hard. We still weren’t that far behind and definitely weren’t giving up on the contest in front of us. Us 28 them 49 The last quarter seen Souths get the first 2 goals of the quarter but that did not result in the flood gates opening. To the credit of all on the field they battled it out to the very end, and we replied with 2 late goals of our own to EJ and Stretch. All in all, it was a good game from so many of our players that day. Guys like Ronan, Dougy, Wardy, T Pot etc fought hard all day. If we can get together and work hard for each other on and off the track there’s a real chance of doing (as Bruce would say) SOMETHING SPECIAL So, let’s get to training and make it sizzle, hang around have a parmy and really enjoy our season. P.s. a huge thanks to the volunteers each week. This week we had big bad Bax down to run water so he could get the best seat in the house to watch the fog dog. Also, Couta and Syd for being part of the support staff the last couple of weeks and never forget the little guy doing the work behind the scenes thanks Joel and Kel.
10.01.2022 ** Round 5 Seniors Review ** Centrals 5.4.34 def by Souths 21.15.141 Centrals Trinity Beach... Goal Kickers: T. Eltringham 2, C. Roberts, J. Butson, J. Newell Best Players: J. Holt, J. Brinn, J. Butson, R. Herd, A. Evans, C. Roberts Round 5 saw us host the bigger more experienced south cairns. With a late reshuffle of the team to replace 2 late outs we went out with a plan in mind to give the cutters a run for their money early and we did just that. The first 10 minutes we matched them around the ground restricting them to just the 2 goals while getting a few good looks ourselves but just failing to convert those shots leaving us trailing 2.5-17 to 0.2-2. 2nd quarter seen cutters put on 2 quick goals before jai Newell got us on the board for our 1st to keep us within a couple of kicks. Still in the game and with our midfielders Jayden holt and josh Brinn working tirelessly in the middle ensured the next 10 minutes was a hard physical quarter before cutters kicked 2 red time goals from our turnovers to take the score out to 7.10-52 to 1.3-9 With a positive first half against a team that pushed the reigning premiers port Douglas the week before we eager to continue where we left off. Cutters again kicked a couple early goals while stepping up their physicality and with a few questionable contests ended up seeing us lose 2 players to concussion. It took young jaiden butson putting his body on the line winning a hard fought free kick to lift the team and then having the composure to go back and hit Tom Eltringham lace out. We kicked 2 more consecutive goals through jaiden butson and Chris Roberts to reduce the margin to 6 goals with 10 minutes left in the qtr. Losing Jayden holt to another heavy hit which left us with 1 fit rotation left on the bench cutters piled on 3 more late goals to bring the 3/4 time score 12.12-84 to 3.4-22. After a bruising 3 quarters of football we went out determined to see out the game. With a few promising signs which saw us retaining possession keeping the ball out of souths hands and thanks to some hard running from our younger players jaiden butson , Mitch Culpit and Harry Steffensen we were able to get Tom Eltringham a few late goals. Souths class and fitness prevailed in the end seeing them pile on 6 of the last 7 goals to bring the final score 21.15-141 to 5.4-34. Best: J.holt , J.brinn , J.butson , A.evans , C.roberts. We have a few big weeks coming up with 2 very winnable games for both grades which will determine the rest of our season.

09.01.2022 **Round 4 Seniors Review** Centrals Vs North Cairns After a tough couple of weeks to start off the 2020 season we finally get our first 4 points against a determined north cairns outfit. ... The first 5 minutes was an arm wrestle as north cairns done what they have done all season and started the game very strongly making it hard for us to score. It wasn’t long before Tom Eltringham got us on the board kicking his first of 7 goals for the match which kicked us into gear seeing us kick the next 6 of 7 goals through Tom Eltringham , Jackson Williams and max mclachlan to lead 6.2.-38 to 1.1-7. 2nd qtr we were kicking into the breeze however with help from our backline standing resolute and our midfield starting to click into gear we were able to repeatedly repel norths advances and turn them into scoring opportunities of our own kicking 2.6 to take the half time scores to 8.8-56 to north cairns 2.3-15. 3rd qtr seen us continue to flick the ball around while maintaining possession before complacency set in which led us to deviate from our structures and stop running for each other giving north cairns a feeling of ascendancy leading into the final term. 3/4 time scores 12.11-83 to 3.5-23. With being down to just 2 rotations on the bench to start the last quarter and our midfielders josh Brinn , mark Horne , Jayden holt and Chris Paterson working tirelessly all game north cairns kicked 3-4 late goals to our 2.5 with the final margin 14.16-100 to 7.6-48. Special mention to the young colts boys Jaiden butson , Sam hurst , Jett Clarke and Mitch culpit who continue to impress and to make the transition to senior football look easy with winning their own contested football and having the composure to finish. Goal kickers : Tom Eltringham 7 , Jackson Williams 6 , max mclachlan 1 Best : Jackson Williams , Tom Eltringham, mark Horne , Chris Paterson , josh Brinn , max mclachla
