19.01.2022 On Thursday we had the pleasure to learn about Professor Schveltens' work around improving the diagnostic classification of Alzheimer’s Disease. The presentation also shed some light on the latest nutrition intervention strategies that may delay the progression of Alzheimer’s. Our dietitian Paula Dobosz is excited to bring these new insights to our patients.

17.01.2022 Meet Mr Ballukar, one of our hardest working patients. Here he is working hard at improving his walking, and gaining more confidence in the process each time! Florian recently worked with him and assisted Mr Ballukar to walk with just a walking stick and not his Four-Wheeled Walker! This was a massive step for Mr Ballukar and we look forward to seeing how much more he can improve!

16.01.2022 Falls in the older population can be debilitating and lead to morbidity, loss of confidence and subsequent nursing home admissions. A combination of strength training and balance training has been shown to be an effective intervention in falls prevention to assist older people in maintaining functional capacity and quality of life.

12.01.2022 Have you met Cheryl? Cheryl is our new receptionist who has now been with us for nearly a month, In passing you may not have really got to know her, so here are a few of Cheryl's pastimes and favourite things! Cheryl loves her arts and crafts, in particular her knitting and sewing. She also likes to dabble in interior design, often "revamping" some of the rooms at home (and around the clinic). Cheryl enjoys getting out and about to discover new coffee shops or an old country town In her spare time! She also loves to catch up with friends or watch a good documentary!

06.01.2022 The Centre for Strong Medicine took 77 frail patients with a mean age of 88 and recorded their average strength gain across 12 months. The result showed and average strength gain of 53%, 75% increase in upper limb strength and a 38% increase in lower limb strength. Research has shown that high intensity progressive training in older frail people reduces the risk of falls, mortality and nursing home admissions while improving strength, cognition, physical function and activities of daily living.

04.01.2022 Vale Professor Hooke. Professor Hooke was a client of ours for several years and his obituary published in the Sydney Morning Herald today is a potent reminder for us when looking after older patients, to remember them in their prime. We too easily forget the amazing lives they have lived and their considerable achievements. Never forget their prime when caring for them, it is a way of reminding yourself of the respect they have earned and deserve.
