25.01.2022 Cessnock croquet players in action, seem to be looking for the balls? No, they're not buried! They always leave a deposit for using the field .

23.01.2022 In the past we've had an issue with people finding our clubhouse. Sign Style Cessnock have done the right thing by us and made and installed a large black on white sign for a good price, which will make us easier to locate.

23.01.2022 For those who are interested here is the site where the official rules are, you can save the document to your hard drive once you open it. https://www.croquet-nsw.org//WCF%20GC%20Rules%205th%20Edit They can be a bit hard to follow.

22.01.2022 And the winner of the croquet mallet is: Maureen Hamilton with ticket number 147. Congratulations Maureen! The mayor of Cessnock Bob Pynsent was gracious enough to be our official observer and picker of the winning ball.

19.01.2022 Here's a real value item for a croquet player, only 100 tickets but a really good prize. https://www.woodmallets.com/ https://www.woodmallets.com//evolution-croquet-mallet-car/

19.01.2022 Well what a glorious day for a game of croquet. 6 players on site today and all of them keen as mustard. Chris Robertson had the most spectacular jump shot scoring a hoop after LEAPING over two balls and landing at the foot of the gate to roll through in spectacular fashion. No wonder we were all keen, the grounds are immaculate at the moment thanks to the efforts of George Campbell with me riding shotgun. Funny playing without being able to shake hands at the end of the game, elbow bumping was the order of the day and only 6 people on site and bring your own coffee. Be well, be safe, Noel Findley

18.01.2022 Here's a few photos inside our clubhouse. Seating area, kitchen and play board. The white board appears complicated, but in fact it's a very simple system. When a member arrives they move their name to the left on the corresponding position of their number. We have a bingo ball cage which the number of their ball is placed in. Once their ball is drawn it simply goes in order sitting next to blue, red, black and yellow. Once all primaries are assigned the names go to the secondaries. Members then know simply by looking at the board which ball they play on which of our three (or 4) courts.

17.01.2022 Here's some members enjoying a Friday morning game on a beautiful cool summers day at Cessnock Croquet Club

15.01.2022 Time and perseverance will yield results, but oh dear some things are hard work. Anyway, this is where we are up to now, not as good as the main court, but very satisfactory anyway. The fence is to prevent balls running out on to the roadway, damaging the balls on the hard rough surface, and creating a traffic hazard to retrieve them. Are you aware that you get to try the first two days FREE if you want to come and give croquet a try. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you can achieve a level to suit yourself. We are about to initiate the handicap system which will equal out the skill levels across the club. Come and watch, doesn't cost a cent.

14.01.2022 The ramp is happening! Inclement weather conditions and the concreter is still on site. Here's hoping it comes out well as it will make a massive difference to us.

13.01.2022 The progress on the clubhouse over time. Bunnings did a great job, both outside and in the kitchen plus painting, blinds. Another business donated chairs that were surplus.

12.01.2022 We've had a puzzle for over 3 months now, our automatic watering system hasn't been functioning. The grass has been dying back and we were getting quite frustrated. It turns out the rain sensor which stops the cycle when wet weather is about, had decided to malfunction. Coupled with the water restrictions, the grass was in trouble. All's well now though as we have bypassed the sensor and the water restriction are lifted. The lawns are starting to come back really quickly, there was even young 'roos on the grass this morning. So satisfying, and if you look to the right of the sign in the photo you can see a strong tinge of green on the field.

09.01.2022 Our croquet sign had become a bit sad, it had been attacked by miniature vandals, you know the ones, little white ones, they demolished the support legs and the sign was literally on its last leg. So to defeat them I purchased aluminium fence posts and bolted them to the existing sign, I also gave the sign a freshen up by mitering the top and bottom of the wood so the water doesn't lay on it and I repainted the whole thing to give a classy look.

07.01.2022 Our "new" court. The turf is really getting going now following the recent rain events. For a while there we wondered if it would survive given the drought conditions and strict water rationing. But all is good and hoping we get follow on rains. (For the farmers too.) The next job is to lightly top dress to remove the hollows between the turf strips.

07.01.2022 Perfectly straight lines to match a perfectly manicured croquet field. Good maintenance gives a serene atmosphere to the setting for the club. The return to croquet is a gradual progression which is not yet fully resolved.

07.01.2022 Today was a massive day at Cessnock Croquet Club. Our new court (Number 3) has had a full 12 month growing cycle and is now ready for playing. The sub committee team of George Campbell, Dick Topham, Wayne Morrow, Chris Robertson and Noel Findley had their work boots on the ground today fine tuning the surface to the final grass level. Even though it appears rough in the photos it's a really good surface. Noel had no trouble hitting the ball the full length of the court despit...e using an underweight mallet. This means we can now fully utilise our new court and have primary colours as first option on every playing field. The club is open to all who are interested and existing members are keen to welcome you. Noel Findley (I don't get to be in the photos as I was taking them) See more

07.01.2022 This was produced in Toronto NSW so is very relevant to our club. Easy to follow also.

06.01.2022 Through a safety audit it was decided there was a hazard involved in the patio at the clubhouse, consequently it was decided to install handrails to direct pedestrian traffic to a soon to be installed (this week) concrete ramp creating a safe entry onto the patio and thence into the clubhouse. Here's three photos of stage one of the improvements. Once again you are invited to come and sample the beautiful, safe and pleasant atmosphere at Cessnock croquet club. You will be made most welcome.

06.01.2022 Jump shots, I'll get it right one day. Just keep trying.

06.01.2022 So the new turf had gaps in between, just a result of where it joined. Here's George with a BIG pile of dirt in the early morning. The day progressed with much hard labour from club volunteers and at the end of the day all the dirt was spread over the new court, here's hoping it takes some of the bunny hops away.
