14.01.2022 The arrivals hall and public viewing balcony at Essendon Airport in 1963, with a Trans Australia Airlines Lockheed Electra arrival. 7 years later Tullamarine Airport will be complete and all major passenger air traffic will be transferred to the new airport.
08.01.2022 The Mentone Theatre, open from 1928 until 1960 on the corner of Warrigal Road and Balcombe Road. It’s site is now mostly taken up by the widened Balcombe Road, and the Doris Stockton Gardens. The aerial photo (looking towards Melbourne from the corner of Warrigal Road) from 1951 shows how big the building was compared to anything else in the area!
04.01.2022 The corner of Swanston and Franklin Street in the 1950s, now the location of RMIT’s imposing concrete block towers, one of which is under construction it’s sad to look at what they replaced. The heritage listed, Percy Everett designed Building 9 is seen further up Franklin Street.
