25.01.2022 Ever wondered what breastfeeding really looks like? This is a fantastic visual

23.01.2022 This family have chosen to keep a piece of baby’s placenta for burial to celebrate welcoming their babe earth side. #2020baby #placenta #newbaby #earthside #doula #sacredplacenta #chamomilerabbitdoulaservices #penrithmums #placentalove

22.01.2022 Oxytocin is often known as the "hormone of love" because it is involved with sex, fertility, contractions during labor and birth and the release of milk in breastfeeding. It helps us feel good, and it triggers nurturing feelings and behaviors. #birtheducation #doulasydney #nepeandoula #penrithdoula #doulalove #oxytocin #oxytocinvibes #lovehormone #skintoskin #cuddle

21.01.2022 It is so sad that we still have so many obstacles to overcome to normalise and educate women in preparing for the 4th trimester. Part of my job as a doula is assisting and educating women not only for what to expect from pregnancy, birth and caring for their newborn but also what to expect for their experience postpartum so that they can feel educated, supported and confident.

20.01.2022 I always tell clients, the most important part of writing your birth plan or birth wishes isn't just to write your ideal birth down onto paper. It is about empowering you through education about all the options you have available for you to be able to make the best choices for you and your baby. It is also about discussing options B, C and sometimes D so that you are educated and can use your brain (Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, Next / Nothing) if and when you nee...d to. If plan A isnt working, there are 25 other letters in the alphabet, but how would you know that unless you were first educated? Need a birth plan written? Contact me today, I not only help to write birth plans for all my birth clients but I also offer this as a service or add on to any of my packages. #birtheducation #doulasydney #penrithmums #nepeandoula #penrithdoula #birthplan #empoweredbirth #doula #birthdoula #pregnancy #prenatal #informedbirth #parents #birthsupport #birthmatters #pregnancystyle #naturalbirthing #firstpregnancy #maternalhealth #maternalmhmatters #childbirth #childbirthclasses See more

20.01.2022 Early labour is the start of surges, usually these contractions tend to have no pattern. This stage is softening and opening the cervix. Its the perfect time to be in that moment. ... Stay home where you are comfortable and feeling secure, where there are no restrictions, bright lights and loud noises. Naturally increase the oxytocin, lots of cuddles, snuggles, touch. Use a heat pack especially on the back. Rest and sleep when you can. Take a walk or some figure 8s on the birthing ball. Make a snack and stay hydrated. Change positions often. Go to the toilet regularly and empty your bladder. Finally remember to breathe. What did you enjoy doing in early labour? #birtheducation #doulasydney #nepeandoula #penrithdoula #doulalove #earlylabour #breathe #snacktime #oxytocin #oxytocinvibes #figure8s #birthball

15.01.2022 There is so much pressure on what we should be as woman, as mums, as partners and wives. Now more then ever with social media, everyone seems to have an opinion on how to parent. Our biggest judge also tends to be ourselves. Life is so busy and many of us have lost our tribe grandparents are working more and longer, more woman are working, we have lost our communities, many of us barely know our neighbours anymore. People only share their wins on social media not their ...mistakes or loses. Its no wonder at times we feel isolated and confused if what we are doing is right We need to judge less. Everyone may parent a bit differently and its not necessarily wrong or right and for us to judge. We try because we love our children and we are just trying to be the best mum, wife and woman that we can be. That needs to be celebrated and given love and respect. So to all the mums (and to the dads) your doing amazing jobs and Im sure even if its not said your babies, partners, family love and cherish you for it. See more

14.01.2022 Did you have a special music playlist prepared for labour and birth? If so what songs did you have on it? I have had clients who have created 2 or 3 playlists, one with music that is quiet, soothing and relaxing and another called baby bounce when the energy in the room needs lifting and mamma dances her baby down. ... Other play lists have included spiritual tracks, calm birthing tracks, the sounds of the ocean. One of my all time favourite songs that clients have used during their labour, has been by Ruelle with the song; I get to love you. As a doula I have created a few playlists for clients and always have a few handy on my Spotify app. #labourplaylist #ruelle #music #birthmusic #tunesfordays #doula #doulasydney #nepeandoula #penrithdoula #playlistspotify #birth #musicforrelaxation #birtheducation

13.01.2022 Hormones of labour continued, Melatonin. Labouring at night, turn down the lights. Melatonin synergises with oxytocin to enhance contractability of the uterus. ... Melatonin is a natural sleep regulating hormone that also plays a part in childbirth. When a woman goes into labour, the hormone, oxytocin, stimulates her uterus to contract. 11.01.2022 Yes! Can a postnatal plan help reduce the risk of PND? Here in Australia we dont often value or give enough respect to the 4th trimester. There is so much pressure on new mums. Such as; getting you pre baby body back, your old social life and yourself back. This is a crazy ask because all of those things have been changed with a new body, a new life and new person. This new person isnt just your new baby, its also the new you that you are discovering. When a new baby is... born, you as a parent are also born. How much of a different experience would it be if you as a new parent were fully supported to ease into parenthood? Instead we feel pressured to look and act in a certain way. We are no longer living with our village, and often we dont have a tribe we dont have family just around the corner to come and help. Then even if they are close by, they arent always the best people to be giving support or they are too busy to be able to offer this support. Then theres the issue of parental leave. In Australia the 2 weeks paid parental leave for partners is not enough, leaving you as a brand new mum often on your own to recover, transition and discover in getting to know this brand new you, brand new baby and often learning new skills like breastfeeding and newborn cares. All while experiencing some huge physical, mental and hormonal changes to yourself. Being prepared and educated for your postpartum is going to mean less fear and anxiety during this time of immense change and reduce your risk of developing postnatal desperation. The best way to prepare is with a postnatal plan. Research has show that women who receive continuity of postnatal support, and who are given a distinct postpartum period, which respects and nurtures the new mums vulnerability, gives her an opportunity for relaxation and rest, and assistance with the household duties and other siblings and family members is beneficial to both mother and baby decreasing PND rates, improving breastfeeding success and overall health and well-being for both parents and baby. #pnd #postpartumbody #postnataldoula #doula #preg #parentalleave #4thtrimester #newparents #ohbaby #2020baby #penrithdoula See more

11.01.2022 Fears! Lets discuss what makes you nervous about your breastfeeding, formula feeding or chosen feeding method journey, and why. What scares you? ... For me, with my first child it was breastfeeding. Would breast feeding work out? What happens if I didnt like it. . So many fears went through my head. With my son it was the fear of returning to work and how that would affect our almost 1 year breastfeeding journey. I wasnt sure how I would juggle it all. How I would cope while at the time working in a busy emergency ward and still pumping to ensure I had enough expressed milk for my baby for when I was on shift. How would people judge me on extended breastfeeding. How would my son cope taking a bottle? How would my husband cope soothing him of a night when I wasnt there to breastfeed him? Once again there was so many thoughts swirling around my mind. Talking openly about these fears during your pregnancy gives you time to process and work through these anxieties, while giving the chance to answer some of these questions. These are just some of the things that I discuss with clients during their birth education and prenatal appointments. It is also a really big topic that I find gives woman anxiety postpartum in both my work as a postnatal doula and as a mother craft nurse on the postnatal ward. Ask lots of questions, chat with your doula, a lactation consultant, your OB or midwife, your best mamma friend. It will assist you so much in your postnatal period. #doula #postpartum #postnatal #4thtrimester #breastfeeding #formulafeeding #breastfeedinginpublic #bottlefeeding #expressedmilk #pumpingmama #pregnancyanxiety #birthsithoutfear #postpartumpreparedness #postnataldoula #sydneydoula #nepeandoula #penrithdoula #feedingbaby #feedingbabymyway #birtheducation #breastfeedingmama #pumpingatwork

06.01.2022 Informed consent is NOT just your signature on a form. If you feel pressured into making a decision, that is not informed consent. . If you do not understand the options being offered to you, that is not informed consent. . If you do not understand that you can say no to the option being offered to you, then that isnt informed consent. . If you do ...not know the BRAIN Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition and nothing on the option being offered to you, then that isnt making an informed decision. . If you are not being given clear, evidence based information, then you also can not possibly make an informed choice. . It is SO important in achieving a positive pregnancy, birth and postpartum that the decisions that you are making for yourself and your baby are that from informed decisions with informed consent. You have full control over the decisions in what happens to you, your body and your baby, having confidence in this is what will make you calm, and in control of your birth journey. 06.01.2022 The hormones of pregnancy, birth and labour continued. Adrenaline: Labour and birth involves the large release of the hormones; oxytocin, sometimes called the hormone of love, and prolactin the mothering hormone. These two hormones are known best for their role in breastfeeding. As well as these, beta-endorphin, the bodys natural pain-killer, and the fight-or-flight hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline play a...n important role in the birth process. Humans, like all mammals seek a quiet, safe place to give birth. This nesting instinct is most likely due to an increase in levels of prolactin, which is sometimes referred to as the nesting hormone. Any interference of this safety or the nest will stall or even stop the progression of labour. If the fight or flight adrenaline hormone is activated by feelings of fear or dangerous surroundings contractions will slow down or completely stop. Our mammalian bodies are designed to give birth in the wilds, where it is an advantage to postpone labour when there is danger, until a safe place can be found to give birth. Many women have had the experience of their labour slowing or stopping, when they have arrived at the hospital, with its bright lights, noise and unfamiliar environment with often a doctor or nurse watching them. Feeling hungry, can also cause the body to release adrenaline, which can stop labour from progressing. Its really important to keep hydrated and fed while working to bring your baby earth side. photo: ChamomileRabbitDoulaServices. written: ChamomileRabbitDoulaServices

04.01.2022 What are endorphins? Endorphins, are hormones released in the brain and nervous system in situations of stress or pain. They are our natural equivalent to painkillers, such as morphine. ... Cool facts about endorphins during childbirth: 1. Endorphin levels increase toward the later stages of pregnancy. During labor, endorphin levels rise during each contraction, peaking in the second stage of labor. Endorphin levels are highest just after birth. It takes up to, two weeks post birth for endorphin levels in the body to return to their normal level. 2. Endorphin levels are highest during vaginal deliveries in unmedicated mothers. They are lower in women who have a cesarean section after labouring and even lower in women who have a cesarean without experiencing labour. 3. The use of exogenous pain medications largely decrease the bodys natural production of endorphins. 4. Endorphins can actually help regulate the speed of labour. 5. Endorphin levels protect babies during childbirth as well. Endorphins are elevated in newborns that experience distress during birth. 6. Endorphin production in the body is tied to our emotions. Stress hormones lower endorphins in the body. The more relaxed and calm a woman is through childbirth, the more endorphins she produces. A relaxed labouring woman actually feels less pain than a woman who is anxious or fearful. It really is amazing how our hormones work with us in pregnancy, child birth and postpartum. #preg #doula #hormones #hormonesofbirth #penrithmums #nepeandoula #penrithdoula #endorphins #childbirth #birthprep #birtheducation #doulalove #pregnancysupport #laboursupport #sydneydoula #sydneybirtheducation #naturalpainrelief #thatbump #bumplife
