22.01.2022 I am re-posting my thoughts about the croup. The croup is an area of great significance. It acts as a fulcrum, transmitting forward thrust through the spine and... on towards the front assembly. Correct croup angulation, 25 to 30 approximately is crucial to the proper drive from the rear and the economy of motion. From the Standard: Croup: Broad, of medium length, slightly rounded. Neither flat nor falling away. Many Rottweilers have incorrect croup angulation. Some slope too much, and others are high in the rear. Correct croup angulation is inherited. It cannot be developed or altered. Choose your breeding partners carefully. Fig. 1-2 is correct. Fig. 3 is too much slope, which negatively affects drive from the rear. See more

20.01.2022 Brief historical summary The Rottweiler is considered to be one of the oldest dog breeds. Its origin goes back to Roman times. These dogs were kept as herder or driving dogs. They marched over the Alps with the Roman legions, protecting the humans and driving their cattle. In the region of Rottweil, these dogs met and mixed with the native dogs in a natural crossing. The main task of the Rottweiler now became the driving and guarding of the herds of cattle and the defence of ...their masters and their property. This breed acquired its name from the old free city of Rottweil and was known as the Rottweil butcher’s dog. The butchers bred this type of dog purely for performance and usefulness. In due course, a first rate watch and driving dog evolved which could also be used as a draught dog. When, at the beginning of the twentieth century, various breeds were needed for police service, the Rottweiler was amongst those tested. It soon became evident that the breed was highly suitable for the tasks set by police service and therefore they were officially recognized as police dogs in 1910. Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.

16.01.2022 By Narelle Hammond Nuts and Bolts The hipbone connected to the thigh bone, the thigh bone connected to.... Angulation of the hindquarter refers to the relative lengths of the upper thigh (Femur) and lower thigh (Tibia and Fibula), length of hock to ground (rear pattern), and the resultant turn of stifle. The hindquarter angle is formed by the Femur, Tibia, and Fibula. The hock is a joint forming the junction between the adjacent bones, the tibia, and fibula, and several bones which make up the rear pastern. Length of hock is the distance from the top of the hock joint to the ground. The length of hock encompasses the rear pastern. The stifle is technically the dog's knee on the back leg. This is the joint forming the junction between the femur and the tibia and fibula, (above) plus the patella which slides over the joint as the dog moves. The length and lay of croup (Pelvis) affect the transmission of power forward. Balance of the hindquarters comes from equal lengths of upper and lower thigh. Stability comes with short rear pastern (hock to ground) combined with equal lengths of upper and lower thigh. Good angulation of the hindquarter is the combination of the correct length and lay of croup, equal length of upper to lower thigh, ideally with short rear pastern, which in turn will give you good 'turn of stifle' which is the angle made by these bones. Let us examine the diagrams. What would be the overall structure of the dog in the second graphic? COPYRIGHT @Narelle Hammond

11.01.2022 There are many misconceptions and misnomers about the geometry of the Rottweiler eye. Its correctness is significant for proper head type and the knowledge of R...ottweiler Breed Type. The Rottweiler eye plays a pivotal role in head type. The Standard makes special mention by detailing the expression of the Rottweiler along with the shape, placement, size, and color of the eye. From the Standard: Eyes: Of medium size, almond-shaped, dark brown in color. Eyelids close-fitting. See more
