25.01.2022 Churches have always been a part of any community and there are several that have been a large part of the Chapman Valley community from as early as the 1890s. https://chapmanvalleyhistory.org.au/churches-of-chapman-va/

25.01.2022 Members from the CVHS welcomed 50 children and 9 parent/teachers from St Francis Xavier Primary School to the Museum in Nanson on Tuesday 22nd October. The children and parent/teachers had a great day. Thank you for visiting and we hope more schools in the Midwest area consider the opportunity to visit in 2020. The Heritage Centre covers a large area and there are so many objects from yesteryear for the children to learn about. The CVHS has recently developed Activity Sheets for children. Bring your children or grandchildren for a visit in 2020, or before the museum closes for the summer months at the end of November.

24.01.2022 There are many murals around the country and this one has certainly put Chapman Valley on the must visit tourist map. https://www.midwesttimes.com.au/

21.01.2022 Monday, 18th May is International Museum Day. We have been invited by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to participate. The idea is to - 1. Choose one object from your personal collection 2. Explain why this object is important 3. Use the hashtags... #Our2020 #IMD2020 5. Encourage your family, friends and respective museums and heritage centres to join in by posting something from their collection and share this post. The Chapman Valley Historical Society Museum has more items on their website at https://chapmanvalleyhistory.org.au/virtual-museum/ ------ The Wooden School Desk, once used at the Howatharra School a small school within the district, is part of the collection at the Chapman Valley Heritage Centre. The two seater stool type wooden desk represents the kind of equipment available for primary school children in the mid 1900s. It has two ink wells for the school students to use with then ink pens. The desk portion was at the back of the seat so the next row of seats could reach the front row. The frame work of the desk is made from wrought iron. The desk was restored and donated to the Chapman Valley Heritage Centre by a former student at Howatharra. See more

21.01.2022 While we are all stuck at home, why not check out this weeks virtual museum. The Carnamah Historical Society & Museum https://www.carnamah.com.au/

21.01.2022 The Heritage Centre was a hive of activity this afternoon when Roz Lipscombe, Regional Manager from the Western Australian Museum visited with her team of professional photographer Bo Wong and well known Midwest writer Samille Mitchell. Some of the Heritage Centres significant objects will feature in the Tourism Portal on a new website to be set up by the WA Museum. It will be designed to attract tourists and other visitors to regional collections, as part of a State Government election commitment to promote these rich cultural resources and increase visitorship. The tourism portal will be connected to Collections WA for those people who want to dig deeper and are looking for more detailed information about collections.

20.01.2022 As we approach ANZAC DAY, we remember those who have fallen in all wars and all those who returned home without their mates and comrades. At the museum there is a tribute to the Fallen Soldiers from WWI who were from the Upper Chapman now Chapman Valley District. Their names are listed on our website. 20.01.2022 Oh my Giddy Aunt! What a job! A huge thanks to all the volunteers who turned up at the Heritage Centre today to get it in ship shape ready for opening this Sunday 12th July at 1pm. The men had been out and blown a lot of the dust out from the recent dust storm so today was wipe down day. Many hands made the work a lot easier. THANK YOU one and all. Please note there are COVID19 restriction requirements in place when entering.

20.01.2022 The Chapman Valley Museum at Nanson is now back to the normal opening times of Sundays 1pm-4pm and Wednesdays 9am - 3pm for October and November. We will be closed from December through to the end of March 2020.

20.01.2022 Julie and Liz presented and trained the Midwest Chapter museums representives on the Collections WA website in an all day workshop today. We appreciate the time they took to step us through the process of uploading our collections.

18.01.2022 The Chapman Valley is steeped in history of a bygone era. Our story this month follows the history of the Hotels & Taverns that were once a part of the district. https://chapmanvalleyhistory.org.au/hotels-taverns-of-the-/

17.01.2022 We are closed for the summer months, but menfolk have still been busy at the Museum/Heritage Centre in Nanson. In November members decided it was time to renew the roof on the first shed that was placed on the Reserve land in 1996. It was all second-hand 22 years ago, so it was definitely time! By renewing the roof, we have been able to include insulation. Shed 1 gets very, very warm during the summer months, so the insulation will lower the temperature and help with the ...preservation of the objects donated to the CVHS. And of course it will make it much more comfortable for visitors on those warmer days. Batavia Metal Roofing had the job completed in a couple of days and then our men got busy on the floor, despite the temperature being in the high 30s! Maybe even the low 40s at Nanson! The old concrete floor has been ground back, thanks to machinery from Redi Hire Solutions and the efforts of Peter, Kevin, John and Bob. Great work fellas. We still have some work ahead of us though! The floor will be painted, new lighting installed by the Shire of Chapman Valley and then all those objects moved back into Shed 1. Dont forget to visit us again in April 2020 to check out the improvements. Merry Christmas everyone. See more

17.01.2022 Julie and Lizzy from Collections WA are in Geraldton to show volunteers from local museums in the Midwest how to use the new online portal. They took time out of their busy schedule to drop into the Chapman Valley Heritage Centre. Pam and Jenny were on hand to show them around and will attend the all day workshop at the Museum of Geraldton.

13.01.2022 At the Seniors Morning Tea held at the museum this morning, members placed poppies on the WWI Fallen Soldiers tribute for Remembrance Day. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning ... We will remember them." See more

09.01.2022 It was a case of many hands make light work today as we covered everything over at the Heritage Centre to protect items from the dust over the summer months. The Heritage Centre is now officially closed until April 2021. Here’s wishing all our followers a very Merry Christmas and a COVIDSafe New Year.

09.01.2022 In accordance with the Premiers announcement today all cultural institutions including libraries, museums, art galleries are advised to close to the public, ef...fective immediately. https://www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au//Important-new-COVID AMaGA Western Australia advises all museums and galleries close to the public immediately; this applies to all non-government and volunteer run organisations as well as those operating under State or Local Government authority, who have been steadily implementing this advice today. Whilst this will bring a period of unprecedented uncertainty and financial strain to many organisations, it is a TEMPORARY MEASURE to protect the community as a whole. The arts, culture and heritage are resilient and will be vital to community connectedness, morale and well-being, and invaluable in the recovery period when people are seeking to reconnect. Our sector is known for the support we provide one another; that will be needed more than ever as we look for opportunities to adapt and continue to care for and share the collections, stories and collective memories of our communities. AMaGA Western Australia will continue to provide you with up-to-date advice on the economic assistance relevant to our sector, news from reliable sources as information comes to light, and advice on projects that you may be able to undertake in isolation, or from your new remote workplace. 03.01.2022 Many hours have been dedicated by a team of members to get Sheds 1 & 2 at the Heritage Centre at Nanson back into shape. No one has given more hours to the museum than our President Warren, ably assisted on some days by Peter, John and Bob. Last week it was time for the ladies to join the guys and the cleaning has begun. We are so very grateful for the donation of two large evaporative air-conditioners from Robbie Barnetson from Geraldton Transport. Peter B just happened to be in the right place at the right time, when Robbie was moving to new premises. Thank you so much Robbie Geraldton Transport. One air-conditioner has been installed and is working a treat. Your generosity is truly appreciated.

02.01.2022 Two years ago the tribute to the WWI Upper Chapman Fallen Soldiers was opened.

01.01.2022 TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE HERITAGE CENTRE DUE TO COVID-19 AND MAJOR DUST STORM The Chapman Valley Historical Society Heritage Centre at Nanson will remained closed due to COVID19 strict regulations and the overwhelming amount of dust in the cabinets, on all the objects and equipment from the recent dust storm. It will be sometime before the volunteers can get the centre ready for visitors. We will review this situation in due course.
