22.01.2022 This week has been a wonderful example of our philosophy of Connecting with Nature. We saw the pure joy of finding an unexpected mud puddle, a little green caterpillar and some beautiful smooth eucalyptus branches. We value a deep connection with the natural world and believe that it is crucial that children are encouraged to appreciate, engage with, and fully experience the wonder of the natural world. Have a great weekend everyone!

21.01.2022 Our new outdoor reading nook. A quiet place for children to relax and take a break from their physical activity. Today the children lay down, covered themselves in cushions and listened to soft music

21.01.2022 We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in our community a wonderful Christmas from all the staff and families at Charlestown Childcare. We hope you have a safe and relaxing holiday and we look forward to catching up again next year!! Just a reminder, our first day back will be Friday, January 8. See you then!!

20.01.2022 During NAIDOC Week, the children have been presented with many opportunities and experiences to awaken their curiosity and experiment with different resources and methods for expressing themselves just as people of First Nations have done before them. Taking inspiration from books, art and natural resources, they have created beautiful art works and experiences to continue their learning of our rich indigenous history.

19.01.2022 The children in the Lilly Pilly preschool room have been on a journey of discovery to create an artwork inspired by the colours of nature in their own backyard. We would like to present their completed works of art titled Our Playground- Here on Awabakal Land. The children also incorporated Aboriginal Symbols (such as ‘sun’ ,’meeting place’ and ‘teaching’) along with sand and dirt from their favourite areas in the playground. After the original pieces were completed, the children became fascinated by a magpie who often ventures in for a visit. As a result, the magpie’s footprints were added to their artwork. It has been a wonderful journey of investigation, creativity and teamwork and has developed inquiring minds, a growing respect for nature and Indigenous learning.

19.01.2022 Welcome to our new Facebook page! Our beautiful playground is ready for play on a lovely Friday afternoon.

18.01.2022 WE ARE NOW A 'BE YOU' CENTRE! Here at Charlestown Childcare and Early Learning Centre, we care about the social emotional wellbeing / mental health of our children. We have successfully implemented mental health initiatives through Kids Matter over the past year. 'BeYou' is the integration of Kids Matter, Response Ability, Mind Matters and Headspace school programs. We are happy to say we will continue to be promoting positive mental health but with a new name change - 'BeYou...'. BeYou, which is overseen by Beyond Blue, is a national mental health initiative for educators which aims to promote and protect positive mental health in children and young people in Australia. Be You’s vision is to build an education system in which every learning community is positive, inclusive and resilient where every child, young person, staff member and family can achieve their best possible mental health. Feel welcome to check out the BeYou website for some fantastic information and resources. https://beyou.edu.au/ Watch this space for further updates on how we are supporting mental health at Charlestown Childcare and Early Learning Centre! 15.01.2022 It’s Spring!! For the Charlestown Childcare kids that means mulberries and water play - Hurray! There are plenty of green mulberries and we are patiently waiting for them to change colour so that we can eat them - yum

04.01.2022 As promised, the mulberry tree was laden with ripe mulberries after the long weekend! The initial excitement was quickly followed by juicy red faces and fingers as the children reached for more and more berries. This annual (and sometimes biannual) event continues to inspire questions about seasons and life cycles as well as give children the pure enjoyment of picking and eating their own food.

03.01.2022 Although this page was set up over a year ago, time and policy constraints have meant we haven’t fully utilised it yet. However, we believe the time has definitely come to set up a communication channel with parents to enable us to stay in touch, send photos and videos, and just stay connected during this difficult time. We have created a group called the Charlestown Childcare Connection Hub. If you are a current parent or staff member, please ask to join the group (link on this page) and wait for approval. We miss seeing all your faces at daycare so hope to catch up soon

01.01.2022 Children love books but there are many different ways to tell a story. This week in the Sugar Glider room, we have been telling stories through drama, felt board pictures and Aboriginal story stones and each method has been hugely popular.
