22.01.2022 2020 marks 75 years since the end of World War II and the Australian Government is providing a commemorative medallion to living Second World War veterans to thank them for their service. Mr Norm Snell received his medallion last Sunday with a photo taken of him at the Sellheim Dawn Service in 2016. We thank Mr Snell for his service along with other members of our Charters Towers community who served during World War 2 and were unable to attend.

19.01.2022 Remember all those that served. Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November and marks the signing of the peace agreement betwe...en Germany and the Allies that ended the Great War of 1914-1918. The Second World War began just 21 years later. Almost a million Australians served during that conflict lasted close to six years. Armistice Day was then renamed Remembrance Day. Now Remembrance Day is a day to remember and honour all Australians who have served. #remembranceday #lestweforget #veteransday #remembrance #poppies #veteran #digger #diggerstribute

17.01.2022 With all that is going on in the world at the moment, today we stop to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom and wellbeing of others. Although we are unable to commemorate together this year our thoughts remain with the Anzac Spirit. Lest We Forget For The Fallen By Laurence Binyon ... With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres, There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England's foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain; As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain. *images from Anzac Day 2019

Can choose to work the full time or even a few hours as the more people who can help the better. Without the support of the community and the massive contributions our volunteers make the Charters Towers RSL would not be able to continue.
