25.01.2022 Passion, food, flamenco dancing and a cross-cultural romance - this stall has the makings of a good movie. La Flamenca Paella owner Manuel came to Australia from Spain in 2013 after meeting his beautiful flamenco-dancing wife... from South Australia. Manuel has been working in hospitality since he was 13 and when he came to Australia, he thought right, I'm going to share my passion with the Aussies - the paella. The paella is a dish that brought the family together. He eats t...his with his relatives every Sunday and they have a stack of different sized pans depending on how many people are coming to eat. Looking at how shallow the dish is, you would think that it takes no time to cook, but in fact, it takes 90 minutes to cook! And after it's done, the whole family gather around the gigantic dish (you can see how gigantic the dish is at the stall), everyone grabs a fork and they dig in - no plates needed. See more

21.01.2022 Meet Dolfi, owner of Wanderer Honey. Dolfi is an Israeli who came to Australia at the age of 20. Unlike everyone who thought bees were buzzy, annoying or dangerous creatures, Dolfi told us that he found bee-keeping "calming" and that's why he started his bee farms in Sydney. As we all know, honey is made from flowers, so we asked Dolfi if he had a gigantic flower field at his bee farm. Surely, he must have an insta-worthy flower-field if he was to keep all his bees happy. Sur...prisingly, the answer was 'no'. He doesn't grow flowers. Dolfi keeps all his bees happy and honey producing with the help of a florist. Come and meet Dolfi at his stall and find out more about his honey. Not only are they a delicious staple in every household, these special boutique honeys are also a great idea when you start thinking of Christmas gifts. 16.01.2022 Manuel is a new generation of the family-owned Alexander's Bakery. While he is from California, the family's Macedonian history makes them an authority in baking bureks. Burek, or börek, is a type of Eastern European pastry made with flaky filo pastry (or as they call it - phyllo pastry) baked in a large pan and then cut into smaller portions. Alexander's Bakery has been dishing up bureks in Sydney for 30 years and has gathered quite a few loyal customers. Their spinach and cheese burek is a staple that continues to be the most popular on the menu. You can also check out their bacon, egg and cheese burek - their Aussie take on the Macedonian pastry.

13.01.2022 Bonsais are a mystery to most people. It's hard enough for a non-green-thumb to grow a plant, let alone a miniature plant. Joung Keun Kook has been growing miniature trees for 40 years. It was a pastime he learnt from his wife's older brother in Korea. And now he's turning it into more than just a pastime here at the Chatswood Mall Markets. We asked him what’s the difference between growing bonsai in Korea compared to Australia. His reply was that Australia is warmer. Some pe...ople might assume warmer means that plants grow better and you would be right. Unfortunately, that's the problem. Warmer weather means faster growth, which is the last thing you would want for a miniature tree. You can just imagine all the extra pruning that needs to be done. See more

06.01.2022 Original vs. traditional recipe. Meet John, our friendly Tall Grass Cane Juice stall owner, selling his new and original hot cane juice with medicinal spice. Why stress 'original' you ask? Well, it turns out that one day, John was trialling his new and delicious hot cane juice recipe at a market when a Vietnamese man came up and gave him some feedback. "What IS this? It's all wrong! Cane juice does NOT go with spice" said the customer. Needless to say, John was quite surprised when he saw a Vietnamese stall a couple of weeks later, with a sign saying "Hot cane juice - traditional recipe passed down generations" and was even more surprised at the familiar taste.

06.01.2022 When you go to department stores, you expect to see hundreds of choices for the latest in fashion, homeware, skincare... Well, Jodie wasn't that ambitious when she started Sapphire Blink she thought she would just stick with hundreds of choices for on-trend young women's fashion - all in the space of a tiny market stall. Jodie and her helper (and husband) Chris came from Hong Kong in the year 2000. Having worked in manufacturing and customer service, she saw a demand for affordable, on-trend fashion and accessories for young women. She told us that having a market stall meant more flexibility in her stock turnover, meaning that she can always keep her items current and on-trend.
