Check out our new Home Delivery Menu. *********** Almost two weeks ago we made the decision to temporarily close our restaurant as we felt it was the best decision with the current COVID-19 situation. We have been overwhelmed by the support of our amazing customers and over the last few weeks we have worked hard to figure out a way we could serve you and still maintain our business. Our home delivery service will help us to do this while maintaining social distancing recommendations. The restaurant will remain closed and for the moment we will not be taking any catering orders. 09.01.2022 It looks like Chef Ceylon's Lamprais won this week's championship! We're not surprised - we love our lamprais too. Lamprais is an absolute favourite amongst Sri Lankans and non-Lankans alike.... The dish has evolved over time but is said to be the work of Sri Lanka's Dutch-Burghers (people Dutch, Portuguese and Sri Lankan background). Typically the dish consists of a number of meat curries, seeni sambal (fried sweet and slightly sour onion), ash plantains, egg plants, belacan and rice cooked in stock. The meal is then carefully wrapped in banana leaves and slowly cooked in an oven.There are many variations of lamprais - but common to all - the OMG deliciousness! Many people will speak about a dry or wet lamprais and this refers to the "wetness" of the rice. This can often be heavily debated over the dinner table! Here at Chef Ceylon we have mastered the art of the lightly wet Chicken Lamprais. Our lamprais contains: samba rice cooked gently in chicken stock, boneless chicken curry, egg plant, seeni sambal, belacan or shrimp sambal, fried egg and a fish cutlet. So much so that it's common to hear people saying "do you want harischandra noodles tonight?" and one would automatically know that it was vegetable noodles with spicy curry for dinner.
