21.01.2022 Have you ever had a sweet craving at night - even if your dinner was ample? This can be a nasty little time to derail your fat loss nutrition - you know the story - eat well all day and then go to town on anything sweet you can get your hands on. Try this as a little remedy to the problem- high in protein and low in fat and carbs. Can be mixed with water or milk. You don’t need much of either, but milk does make it taste better. However, if you can’t spare the few extra calories or extra lactose etc, just add water. P.S - tastes better if you chill it off in the fridge for a while.

17.01.2022 Gym etiquette 101 - unload your plates after you have finished using a machine. I unloaded this one after my evening workout - it took around 30 seconds. That’s not a long time, but it could save a member of the gym an injury as these 20 kg plates are too heavy for some to remove safely. From this height, a dropped plate could easily break a metatarsal (think bones in your feet).

16.01.2022 First time in over 10 years that Jason has been in double digits - he cracked the 100 kg barrier today! When I suggested that we enlist the help of Tony Attridge (a sports nutritionist and Australian World Fitness Federation Bodybuilding team member) to look after his nutrition plan, he was a little skeptical at first, but gave it a shot. Jason’s discipline has paid off - he was very happy this morning, as was his partner Christine (who has now lost over 75kgs) who smiled on... in the background of the photo. Jason plans to celebrate by going out and buying a new pair of slacks that will not fall off him! Well done Jason.

14.01.2022 So proud of the progress of this lady. It’s not all just about the massive amounts of weight she has lost, but also all the new activities she can partake in. When Christine started, I couldn’t get her to perform a Fitball supported wall squat efficiently -now she performs various deadlift, squat and split squat variations. Here we are working on the execution of the trap bar deadlift. Absolute legend!

13.01.2022 Can’t afford weekly PT sessions but still want guidance to help keep you on track with your programming? Jaeger supplemented his individualised program with some PT sessions, but the mainstay of his exercise was consistently adhering to the program I designed for him. The result? He is down 13 kgs and is the leanest I can ever remember him being (said he hasn’t been this light for 4 years). Interested? PM me.

Apparently these are to share with the family- but maybe I should do my family a solid, and make sure they don’t consume the sugar, and eat all four pieces myself (it is Father’s Day this Sunday after all).

10.01.2022 No workout tonight, but instead collecting my sandbags, sled (my clients will be glad to know), agility ladder and all sorts of other equipment, to set up my space in response to the enforced closure of gyms. Thankfully I have loads of equipment at home, as well and plenty of iron. So many laughs and so much hard work (and lets face it - a lot of talking) have taken place within these walls, and some huge physical transformations. But this will not be forever - and our franc...hise owner owns the building! We will be back! To all my colleagues in the personal training game, this is a huge curve ball, I know it’s a tough enough industry to succeed in within Gympie as it is, but your clients will need you now more than ever. I know I have appreciated the loving support of my wife Sarah, my manager Krystle Hardie, the franchise owner Michael Knights and my clients who have stuck by me and are willing to keep supporting me as I support them through this tumultuous time (you know who you are guys - and that means heaps to me). We will get through this, sometimes we just need someone to remind us.

06.01.2022 The benefits of continuing to exercise whilst pregnant are innumerable - that’s why I am proud that this lady has continued with her sessions. There are modifications to programming that should be made for a pregnant lady, and these will depend on what trimester she is in.

06.01.2022 With gyms shut (), some of us are fortunate enough to have a tonne of equipment at home. However, some people only have resistance bands, or even only one resistance band. This does not mean that you have to violate the training principle of progressive overload. When starting out using a band, place your feet together or even just place one foot on the band if two feet is still too difficult. To progress, you can separate your feet and create more tension on the resistanc...e band. In the video below, the first 8 repetitions are with my feet together, but in the last 8 repetitions, I have spread my feet apart, making the reps more challenging. Just make sure that there is even tension on both sides - it can be quite easy to accidentally make one arm experience more tension than the other, which is generally not what we want (save for perhaps a few rare exceptions).

05.01.2022 I love getting into the minutia and nuances of fat loss, but it becomes far too easy to focus on the latest supplement, a certain meal timing, or macronutrient combination that we don’t major on the majors. Stop worrying about which is the best fat burning supplement if you don’t have the big rocks of nutrition, sleep and exercise in place. I know I can be guilty of missing the forest because of the trees.

02.01.2022 Jason had an Archilles tendon issue, and it meant there was certain things he couldn’t do. However, there were hundreds of things he still could do in the gym. With a bit of creativity and knowledge of functional anatomy, I was still able to give Jason a training effect. Work within the parameters that your health professional gives you, but always look for what you can do rather than what you can’t. Don’t use injury as an excuse to do nothing! Proud of Jason for not using his leg as an excuse.
