20.01.2022 Many people have seen the video of a hiker’s encounter with a mountain lion on a trail in Utah that has recently gone viral. Unfortunately the news and social m...edia outlets sharing this footage have misinterpreted what this mother mountain lion was doing and, by their sensationalized headlines, they are doing more harm to an already maligned and imperiled species. If you chose to share the video or see it posted in other locations, please be sure to help politely educate other viewers by sharing this information: Beth Pratt is the Director of National Wildlife Federation, California and a mountain lion expert. Her assessment is that the video shows a mother cat protecting her kittens, not a person being "stalked" by the mountain lion. Mountain lions are stealth hunters, which means they ambush their prey. If the cat was stalking him, the hiker wouldn't know it until shortly before she pounced on him. In this video she is escorting him away from her kittens. Mountain lion attacks are incredibly rare-- you are more likely to be hit by lightning or win the lottery than you are to be attacked by a mountain lion (here's more information on that: https://www.mountainlion.org/newsstory.php?news_id=1670) In the very rare occurrence of an encounter with a big cat you want to yell, back away facing the cat and throw rocks. Make yourself look big and threatening, and don't run. Thank you to Lesley Sampson for this meme.

14.01.2022 "We have lived our lives by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world. We have been wrong. We must change our lives so that it will b...e possible to live by the contrary assumption, that what is good for the world will be good for us. 10.01.2022 Sunflowers turn according to the position of the sun. In other words, they chase the light. You might already know this, but there is another fact that you ...probably do not know! Have you ever wondered what happens on cloudy and rainy days when the sun is completely covered by clouds? This is an interesting question.Isnt it? Perhaps you think the sunflower withers or turns its head towards the ground. Is this what crossed your mind? Well, thats incorrect! This is what happens: They turn towards each other to share their energy. Natures perfection is amazing. Now lets apply this reflection to our lives. Many people may become low-spirited, and the most vulnerable ones, sometimes, become depressed. How about following the example of the beautiful sunflowers i.e."Supporting and empowering each other". Nature has so much to teach us. Wishing everyone a "Sun flower" trait of turning towards each other on their cloudy and gloomy days. Spread goodness...it will come back to you...

08.01.2022 OUR STORY - by Deng Ming-Dao People can endure anything if they can tell themselves an acceptable story. One example is Winston Churchill (1874--1965), the prime minister of the United Kingdom during World War II. When his people were understandably discouraged and fearful because of the bombing and the apparent possibility of losing the war, he led them by bolstering the story of their resistance. When he made personal appearances, that became part of the story too. After t...he first air raid on September 7, 1940, Churchill went to the heavily bombed dock district at the East End. The crowds were so large that Churchill wanted them to indeed know that he was there. So he hoisted his bowler hat on his cane. After he boarded his train, Churchill pretended to read the paper, but he was crying.* This was reported and endeared him to the people even more. Aside from his speeches and his leadership as prime minister, this too became part of the story. On a personal level, we each need to maintain a story we can accept. This is what psychotherapy is ultimately about. Can we take our story, accept it, even hold it at arms-length for awhile, and thereby integrate it? The primary medium for this process is language. We use the pattern of language to reveal a coherent pattern to our psychology and thereby understand ourselves better. Spiritual practice does add one more thing: silence. This is the stilling of the story. You can view that as creating the space for more, gaining the perspective to re-examine yourself, or providing the opportunity for the cosmos to whisper additions to your story. However you look at it, its the combination of our story and moments of good silence that make us who we are. _________ * https://www.npr.org//how-winston-churchill-pulled-britain-

03.01.2022 Message from White Eagle, Hopi indigenous. This moment humanity is going through can now be seen as a portal and as a hole. The decision to fall into the hole ...or go through the portal is up to you. If you repent of the problem and consume the news 24 hours a day, with little energy, nervous all the time, with pessimism, you will fall into the hole. But if you take this opportunity to look at yourself, rethink life and death, take care of yourself and others, you will cross the portal. Take care of your homes, take care of your body. Connect with your spiritual House. When you are taking care of yourselves, you are taking care of everything else. Do not lose the spiritual dimension of this crisis; have the eagle aspect from above and see the whole; see more broadly. There is a social demand in this crisis, but there is also a spiritual demand -- the two go hand in hand. Without the social dimension, we fall into fanaticism. But without the spiritual dimension, we fall into pessimism and lack of meaning. You were prepared to go through this crisis. Take your toolbox and use all the tools available to you. Learn about resistance of the indigenous and African peoples; we have always been, and continue to be, exterminated. But we still haven't stopped singing, dancing, lighting a fire, and having fun. Don't feel guilty about being happy during this difficult time. You do not help at all being sad and without energy. You help if good things emanate from the Universe now. It is through joy that one resists. Also, when the storm passes, each of you will be very important in the reconstruction of this new world. You need to be well and strong. And for that, there is no other way than to maintain a beautiful, happy, and bright vibration. This has nothing to do with alienation. This is a resistance strategy. In shamanism, there is a rite of passage called the quest for vision. You spend a few days alone in the forest, without water, without food, without protection. When you cross this portal, you get a new vision of the world, because you have faced your fears, your difficulties. This is what is asked of you: Allow yourself to take advantage of this time to perform your vision-seeking rituals. What world do you want to build for you? For now, this is what you can do -- serenity in the storm. Calm down, pray every day. Establish a routine to meet the sacred every day. Good things emanate; what you emanate now is the most important thing. And sing, dance, resist through art, joy, faith, and love."
03.01.2022 FORGETTING Have you kept everything from your childhood? If you’re like most people, much of that has been left behind. It’s common for someone to be cleaning ...up their family home after the passing of their parents to find childhood things that have been save. You see them, and you remember. Was it important that these things were kept? Here’s a second thought. Many people will rescue their photo albums in a fire or a flood. For them, the memories are important. If the albums are lost, we fear, so will the memories be lost too. Consider this third thought: sometimes we cannot forget even if we want to. A painful breakup, a traumatic attack, even the seemingly minor humiliation of someone laughing at us can be seared into our memories and no therapy, drug, or meditation seems capable of expunging that. So some parts of us are easily forgotten. Some parts can only be remembered with aids. Some parts of us cannot be forgotten despite strenuous effort. Why are we like this? Some Taoists advocate forgetting. Memories can hold us to who we think we are, and they might be preventing you from truly living in the present and moving on to a different you. Are we our memories? Is forgetting useful? We assume that we have secured our identities, but what if they are as ephemeral as any dream? Then, perhaps, the sages are right to urge us to meditate and to practice: the point is to understand who remembers and forgets. I, Zhuangzi dreamt that I was a butterfly. Now that I’m awake, I don’t know if I’m a person who dreamt of being a butterfly, or am now a butterfly dreaming that it’s a person.

03.01.2022 I asked the leaf whether it was frightened because it was autumn and the other leaves were falling. The leaf told me, "No. During the whole spring and summer I ...was completely alive. I worked hard to help nourish the tree, and now much of me is in the tree. I am not limited by this form. I am also the whole tree, and when I go back to the soil, I will continue to nourish the tree. So I don’t worry at all. As I leave this branch and float to the ground, I will wave to the tree and tell her, 'I will see you again very soon'." That day there was a wind blowing and, after a while, I saw the leaf leave the branch and float down to the soil, dancing joyfully, because as it floated it saw itself already there in the tree. It was so happy. I bowed my head, knowing that I have a lot to learn from the leaf. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh Image: William Smith
