24.01.2022 Check out this Gardening Australia feature on CORP!

24.01.2022 Well... the weekend was a great success! Just the right number of people wandered down to involve themselves in the Orchard Launch at Bethune Reserve in Chigwell. A number of new volunteers signed up to become a part of CORP, the Facebook page jumped up a few likes, many a snag was gobbled and everyone seemed to enjoy the demonstrations, activities and music at hand. There will be photos to follow soon but in the meantime keep seeding the word of this fantastic project and if you are keen to become further involved drop us an email at: [email protected]. We'd love to hear from you! The next big date is July 28 for the actually planting but stay tuned as there'll be plenty of activity on this site in the meantime. Massive thanks to all those involved this past weekend...

23.01.2022 If there's one guy who has a stationary fascination it's CORP volunteer Jove. Heading into this weekend's festivities we have managed to borrow badge and magnet making machines from super local business, Red Parka, and have been busy making some cool little trinkets to offer punters who make this weekends Orchard Launch as a memory keepsake for the day. Jove has been head badge maker extraordinaire!!! 11am til 2pm this Saturday folks! Spread the word.

22.01.2022 As Marvin Gaye once said, 'Let's get it on...' It's National Tree Planting Day and the Chigwell Orchard Relocation Project invite you to join us and witness the actual planting of the orchard today. There'll be homemade soup and hot chocolates for all those who show and, be prepared, you may feel the overwhelming urge to put your hands in the dirt. TODAY 10am - midday, Bethune Reserve, Bethune Street, Chigwell. (next to the Chigwell Child and Family Centre)

22.01.2022 We are in winter. More revellers seem to be out and about during the colder months of Hobart over the last few years. With MONA's Dark Mofo, The Festival of Voices and The Huon Mid Winter Featival to name a few, there's plenty of options to whet your winter social appetite. CORP would like you to add this date to your winter diary. SUNDAY 28th JULY. 10am til Midday. If you're local, you'll probably have an invitation entering your letter box in the next week or so. If yo...u're not please do help to spread the word of this great community incentive. By heading down on the day not only will you get to witness the planting of the orchard but also be welcomed with a complimentary cup of homemade soup to warm the cockles of your winter heart. You might even want to dig your hands in the dirt... Come along and be a part of it... diary... now... See more

20.01.2022 Fantastic article about ‘pioneers’ in the war on waste...creating treasure from our trash!

20.01.2022 In 24 hours a bunch of people will sink a bunch of sticks into a flat of soil. In doing so, a three year project will be realised in the form of a wonderful community orchard. Join us at Bethune Reserve in Chigwell on Sunday 28 between 10am and midday for a soup or hot chocolate and either watch on or dig your hands in the dirt... Please share this post to one and all...

20.01.2022 We drew the raffle today, in fairly extreme conditions at the Orchard site. Kelli Griffiths won first prize, Nevenka Barlow won second prize and Jove McKenna won third prize. We are very grateful to donors Local Pizza, Elise Archer MP and Agent Cooper. We're also grateful to supporters who bought tickets. The raffle raised around $600 which will help us get the trees into the ground. Yay! Sunday 28 July, National Tree Planting Day 10am til 12 at Bethune St Reserve, Chigwell. Sensational!

17.01.2022 This is Connor. Connor is the reporter at the Glenorchy Gazette who recently met CORP at the Orchard site and has written a full pictorial article that will be appearing in the next issue of the paper to be released at the start of April. Connor was a little surprised when we turned the camera on him but obliged, bless him. Ladies and gentlemen, the Chigwell Orchard Relocation has been approved!!! Check your next edition Glenorchy Gazette for details.

14.01.2022 You know that there's progress when you're surrounded by high vis. In fact, even the measuring tape that was brought along to map out the proposed spacing of the Orchard was of a orange high vis varietal. Things are on the move folks, chugging towards the July 28 planting date. We'd love to see you there... to witness the moment this project truly comes to fruition... so grab your nearest high vis texta and scribble it in your diary...

13.01.2022 If there's one strength the CORP team haven't yet quite mustered it's a regular Facebook presence... Which is why, fine folk, it has taken such a lengthy time to compile, and then get around to, posting a few photos of our fabulous Orchard Launch last month. We have, however, been busy bees. With a multitude of new members and a desire as strong as ever to plant this orchard of the future, July 28 is on track and the date to scribble 'ORCHARD PLANT' in your finest of handwriting into your new financial year diary. So here's some rather belated photos and a loose promise to be a little more proactive on the facebook front...

10.01.2022 Ahoy there tree huggers. Things are burbling in the background with CORP at the moment. Planning for the Planting Day of Sunday July 28 that just so happens to be National Tree Planting Day. Pencil it in your diary, your calendar, the back of the toilet door, your hand etc etc... Bethune Street Reserve... 10am to 12. Free soup kitchen. Warmth will be provided. The orchard shall be planted. Red tape will be snipped. The project shall be realised. Be there!

08.01.2022 Today was wonderful, intimate and special. A small gathering of CORP members and attendees of the Chigwell Child and Family Centre ceremoniously planted the first tree (an apricot in fact) in the patch of dirt that will soon become the Chigwell Orchard. Smiles were plenty as those present were gifted a flag marker to lay in designation for where a proposed tree may be planted this coming Sunday. On July 28 we hope the rest of the local community embrace what will be a mome...ntous occasion and realisation of a three year project that will keep on giving. CORP hopes you will join us to transfer a further twenty odd grafted fruit trees from their pots to the soil and be a part of this super grass roots project. Stand back and offer moral support or get down and dirty with your hands in the trenches... whichever you may desire... We will be serving complimentary homemade soup and hot chocolate to keep you warm to the depths from 10am through to midday so drop on by and say hello. BETHUNE RESERVE, BETHUNE STREET, CHIGWELL, (next to the CCFC) 10am-12pm See more

05.01.2022 In the words of Mini Hogan, " Sensational... wonderful... phenomenal..." The orchard planting was carried out on the pick of the week weather wise and the sun shone brightly on those who arrived at the Bethune Reserve to get their hands dirty. With laughter, joy and a whole lot of community spirit around twenty five trees were planted, watered and given spades of love. CORP look forward to a prosperous future of community meetings: food, music and good times. Please continue to spread the good word about the project and stay tuned to be in the loop with our future events and goings on. We're always looking for new members so if you're keen please express your interest to [email protected] or just drop us a line on 6275 0992.
