25.01.2022 I'm just so inspired by this story.
25.01.2022 It's with a heavy heart I leave Frog Hollow. The kids have blown me away with how much they have remembered from my last visit teaching Protective Education. Some repeating stories I had forgotten I’d told them.... I feel very confident the new staff will continue to build on what I've started and I’d like to thank them for making me feel so welcome. This was my second trip down the creek, the first time I didn't get in, but after teaching the children earlier in the day about ’Risking on Purpose’, while we were playing ’Pieface’ with the whole school, figured I needed to practice what I preached. One of the teens had great delight in capturing these classic photos, as I braved the freezing water and the freshwater croc. It was lovely once in. The other two photos are of my first visit to the creek where I saw the freshwater crocodile .

21.01.2022 Wow, what a crazy old year it's been since these were taken. I was invited to speak in Wagin for the Australia Day celebration, two speeches for International Women’s Day in the country, followed by Roger and I going to Qatar, so I could present at an international Child Abuse Conference then Coronavirus hit.

19.01.2022 Do you have these kinds of conversations with your child/children? One of the strategies I teach in my parent workshop is to have a secret family code. If a child is feeling uncomfortable at a play date or sleepover and they want to go they can ring and say Mum or Dad, how’s the dog? and the parent will go straight and pick up their child. Another strategy is for teens to just send a X meaning they want come home. ... I saw this on Facebook a while back. What strategies can you share with others?

15.01.2022 This online course covers information on how to teach your children Protective Education. It is delivered via a series of small videos. You can work your way ...through the information at your leisure in the comfort of your home or office. Some of the topic covered include how to: explain to your child the difference between ‘Telling and Dobbing’. engage in more active listening with your children. enable your child to set up a ‘Safety Team’ of five trusted adults. explain to your child the role of the Police is to help keep us safe. communicate to your children the importance of persisting in ‘Telling’ if they feel unsafe. instruct your children on the correct anatomical names for their Private Body Parts. engage your children in conversation about the impact of pornography. explain to your children that they can say ‘NO’ to anyone if they feel unsafe. communicate to your child the importance of asking themselves the ‘Three Safety Question’. explain to your child the difference between ‘Good/Safe’ and ‘Bad/Unsafe’ secrets. respond to a child’s disclosure of abuse. 12.01.2022 TRIGGER WARNING Please join Kelly Humphries and me and listen to our live from today where we discuss bystanders in child abuse. This is a very special episode of "Talk and tell with Holly and Kel."... We were joined by the amazing Justine Dean I Relationship Specialist who spoke so openly about her experience as a child growing up and not being able to talk about her abuse, even after she tried to disclose. We also heard from a gentleman named Ash, who also shared some touching information. Listening to Justine's story only strengthened my resolve in what we are doing and knowing that our Safe4Kids program has the potential for changing children's lives. My take-homes from what she said was the importance of listening to children, the importance of open communication with children and asking "WHY" if they don't want to do something or go somewhere. Really unpack it with your child, rather than the old "because I said so" line. It is so important to help your child design a Safety Team and teach them the importance of persisting in seeking help if the first person on their Safety Team doesn't listen. All of these parents would have thought it won't happen to my child. If you don't know where to start, children’s books are a great starting point....
