We all know the importance of trees in our world and we are encouraging our children to be aware of it too. We discussed what trees do for the environment and how to look after them. 15.01.2022 We had a great visit from Auntie Wendy today and she talked to us about Aboriginal people and told us stories. We learnt that our local people are the Dharawal. We also learnt some Aboriginal words and danced to the clapping sticks. We also learnt about the didgeridoo and that only boys can play it. The boys had fun taking big breaths to play it. It was lots of fun and helps children to understand that some children have a battle with childhood cancer. This is what the day is for to shed awareness on this terrible illness in children. 11.01.2022 This week in the Little Explorers room was out of this world! They blasted off into space in their recycled rocket ship and worked together to create a space mural. They even made star shaped cookies and they were very tasty for afternoon tea. They enjoyed stories about space and did puzzles as well. 08.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day and here at Chipmunks’s in the Forest the children made red poppies to put in the garden to remember all the people who died in the war. 08.01.2022 On a Tuesday at chipmunks in the forest the children had a very special guest come in and do a story time with us to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres strait islander childrens day which is celebrated on August 4th. Miss Teresa read the rainbow serpent to the little explorers and the preschoolers. The children were really engaged throughout the story as Miss Teresa read the book and explained the pictures to the children. Miss Teresa then talked with the children abo...ut the Aboriginal and Toreres Strait Islander culture. Miss Teresa explained that Aboriginal people can tell stories in many ways some are through books, dancing and through their art. Miss Teresa also showed us some traditional dancing to traditional music. Miss Teresa also brought in a didgeridoo and clap sticks to show the children and explained only men can play the didgeridoo. The children all got involved with dancing and asking lots of questions about the aboriginal culture. The staff and children would like to say a huge special thank you to Miss Teresa for coming in to spend some time with the children and share her culture with us. To celebrate National Aboriginal Childrens day the preschool children made some cheesy damper with Miss Anneka this morning. Miss Anneka hqelped the children measure the ingredients out. Each of the children had a turn at putting in our ingredients. We used flour,salt,cheese, butter and milk. We cant wait to eat it for afternoon tea. The preschool children always love our cooking experiences.
