07.01.2022 Yoga begins right where I am. As soon as I start to project back or forward to where I want to be in my practice my body will always gently remind me where I am right now. That’s been a huge lesson for me post-partum (does 2.5years still qualify as post-partum? )... My body has done so many incredible things like grow a human, feed a human, lift, cuddle, hold and nurture that tiny human. But I forgot to give my own body that same amount of respect and attention along the way. Now I find myself in my yoga practice, particularly asana, but equally during pranayama and meditation facing this urge to be where I long to be in my practice....not where I was yesterday but where I was (especially in my hips and lower back) pre-pregnancy. Carrying my beautiful son both on the inside and earth side has taken its toll on my sacro-iliac joints and pelvic girdle. When I’m not experiencing pain and inflammation there, I notice the restriction in many of my daily movements as a result of these changes. Yoga is my daily reminder to be where I am right now. I’ve slowly accepted where I am in my practice and in my teaching, and like all resistance in life, if we take a moment to pause in it; to really feel into the resistance, both physical and mental. Breathe. Notice. Trust. It’s never easy but taking that time to be present with what is. To be where we are right now. Allows us to accept and make space to move, find ease and trust our own intelligence that we’ll move or be wherever we’re meant to be, physically, mentally, emotionally. Yoga begins right where we are wherever, whenever we step onto the mat. Not where we were yesterday or where we long to be. I’ll be sharing an SIJ (sacro-iliac/pelvic girdle) friendly class tonight @greenhaus.studio Feel free to join me from 6.30pm and bring blocks and props with you so I can share some useful tips and techniques to manage lower back and hip pain.
