25.01.2022 The challenging thing about returns on investments of time is the delay. The ability to delay gratification can be the difference between an excellent return and a miserable one. #productivity #choice

24.01.2022 Thought for the day :) Make it the best it can possibly be and stay aware.

20.01.2022 Thought for the Day There are only so many hours in a day and so much energy in a person... Not all ideas can be born or should be born Choosing the ones to bring into the world works best with a good understanding of your needs.

19.01.2022 Can't get much clearer than that

19.01.2022 Of course you have the right to not wear a mask, But you don’t have the right to risk my health. Feel free to go unmasked, But please stay away from the rest of us Who don’t share your beliefs.... And don’t impose your right to go unmasked, By taking away my right to be safe from infection by you. A mask is only an imposition for you While Covid 19 might be death for me! 18.01.2022 Today is RUOK day in Australia. It's important to ask people how they are but Unless we back it up with connecting behaviours and ... Avoid disconnecting behaviours ...... They are unlikely to tell us anything much

17.01.2022 Our perceived imperfections are our opportunities for growth. Challenges are opportunities for change.

16.01.2022 This is good news right?

16.01.2022 History shows that when the gap between the haves and have nots gets too great, a correction always takes place. Whether that is revolution or evolution is up to us. Jeff Steedman 2020

14.01.2022 Using Choice Theory to navigate lifes challenges Prostate Update It has been a very interesting and at times challenging journey so far. There is so much to do and so little time to do it. I have chosen to become frustrated at times, but I'm ok with that as long as I am not doing it all the time. The hardest part for me so far, is wading through the bureaucracy. A good example of when I chose to do some frustrating happened when I visited the hospital on Monday. I drove three...Continue reading

12.01.2022 Prostate Surgery Day! It is 8.00am in the morning, breakfast was at 5.45 and I am fasting from that time until the operation at 12.10. I have just had a saline drip inserted and BP is 127 over 73, pulse 47, so everything is looking good. My stress level is very low, the readings above confirming that. I have been reading a David Baldacci book called End Game, simple escapist reading to keep me occupied between now and the op. The staff here at St John of God hospital are ex...cellent, warm, friendly, caring and competent, I couldn't ask for more! So how am I choosing to feel? Relaxed and confident! Because that is the best thing I can do to assist these wonderful professionals to give me the best possible outcome from my surgery this afternoon. I know some might think that it's not possible to choose how to feel, but I am here to tell you from past experience, and of course right now even as I am writing this, that you can. I can't immediately control my feelings, for example by telling myself to be calm. In fact if I tried to do that, I would almost certainly end up overstressed! But indirectly I can choose how I feel by choosing what I think. It is my thoughts, which only I am in control of, which inform my feelings and determine how I feel. Many of us are unaware how powerful our thoughts are in determining our feelings and believe that it is our feelings which are in control. It certainly can seem that way because our feelings are so powerful and obvious, whilst the thinking which informs them is often not so clear to us. If we believe that it is our feelings which control us and that we can't do anything about them... then that will be true! Equally if we learn that it is our thinking which informs our thoughts, then with practice we can choose more useful thoughts and take charge of our feelings. It is in times like this that I have reaffirmed how important the gift that Dr Glasser gave the world is. When he formulated his ideas about Choice Theory he gave us a very powerful tool indeed. I am thankful every time I deal with life's vicissitudes that I have been exposed to these ideas and can call on them to help guide me through. See more

10.01.2022 If each of us chooses to behave in ways that contribute to the wellbeing of the world around us, then it will improve in ways we cannot foresee. Jeff Steedman 2020

10.01.2022 Advice can be useful BUT Should be taken with adequate measures of Observation ... And Self-Evaluation There are usually a number of ways to do anything Everyone is unique Change is fast and furious Some people are ahead of their time, some people are too late to the party, finding your own sweet-spot is magic

09.01.2022 GOOD NEWS! The PET PSMA scan has shown no evidence of prostate cancer anywhere else in my body, other than that which is present in the prostate gland. What does this mean? This test is accurate to around 92%, so while it isn't guaranteed there are no rogue cells circulating it is strong evidence that I am clear. Next Step, pelvic floor exercises and a strong focus on overall fitness prior to the op. For me this means continuing my runs, walks and HIIT training every day, a...s well as looking after my mental wellbeing by focussing on the things I can control and enjoying what each day brings me... not too hard really because that has been my practice for a very long time. I haven't and won't stop working, it brings me great enjoyment to continue sharing the wisdom of choice theory with those who are ready to learn it, and with the increased use of Zoom, I am talking to clients from around the world. Deb and I continue to promote our online stress and anxiety management course, we are getting great feedback and I have the opportunity to practice what I preach on a daily basis and show that I am prepared to walk the talk. I have decided not to join a support group, I know many people really like these, but I prefer to build a team around me who know me, practice and understand internal control psychology and use the connecting habits in their relationships with me, they certainly don't need to be people who have the same diagnosis as me. My wife Deb is the number one ticket holder in my support group! Why not join a support group as well? For me, I don't choose to divert my energy in mixing with those who are miserabling, depressing or anxiousing and experience has shown me that support groups can have a large number of sufferers or survivors who exhibit those traits. I don't judge them, I just know that's not what I need or want at the moment but if it is working for them I am delighted and encourage them to keep going. I know that statement may be challenging for some, but I am not trying to convince anyone that my way is right for anyone else, I'm just sharing what I believe to be right for me. It has been heartening to have a number of men tell me that they will now have a regular PSA test as a result of my sharing what I have learned from my experience so far. All we can give anyone is information and if we do that in a non judgmental manner, we have a greater chance that they will be open to it and choose a course that works for them. Everyones path is different, the right path is the one that works for you. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I'll keep posting as events unwind. Cheers Jeff See more

09.01.2022 I'd just like to share with the world that Victorians and Melbournians have not lost their sense of humour. This creativity and preparedness to use humour is what gets us all through the hard times.

06.01.2022 9 days after prostate surgery! Well! Who would have thought that we would one day be operated on by robots with the surgeon looking at a monitor? It really is futuristic right now! I have recovered remarkably well. There were only 7 small incisions made in my abdomen and the dressings have been removed from those already. My operation began at 12.30 on Monday, and I was returned to my bed at 7.00pm, so this was no small procedure. I was up and walking the next day, on soli...Continue reading

06.01.2022 PET- PSMA scan complete! I will get the results later this week. I learned a few things, about the process and myself! - When they say the scan takes 30 to 40 mins, that is true - What they don't tell you is to put two hours aside prior to your scan to be infused with the PSMA tracer - In a PSMA PET-CT, the tracer used for the PET scan includes a molecule that specifically binds to the PSMA protein, which is often found in large amounts on prostate cancer cells. That molecule... is linked to a radioactive compound, or radioisotope. -It's smart to take some reading matter with you as you sit in a lined radioactive proof room while being infused. - This room has "Warning Will Robinson" signs everywhere [apologies to those who don't get the reference to "Lost in Space.] - Grand Designs Australia is a great program to fill in the time when you have had enough reading - It is easy to fall asleep while you are having your scan - Don't make appointments for later in the day because you believed the scan would only take 30 to 40 mins and that was it! - Rod Stewart is a good choice to listen to while you are undergoing your scan - By 2.00 in the afternoon you get very hungry after being immersed in the process for nearly three hours - It is too much to expect an already compromised bladder to cope while getting infused with a saline drip for over two hours. I'll post further information as it comes to hand See more

03.01.2022 To Survive or Thrive, it's my choice! My view from the prism of prostate cancer. It is interesting to note the different outcomes which occur when using and believing these words and the corresponding belief systems underlying them. I responded to another post recently with a similar theme and my own experience with prostate cancer has me thinking about this again. Some background! In past years I experienced skin cancer and recovered from it, leading a healthy, happy and e...Continue reading

03.01.2022 This might ruffle a few feathers Some sayings like "What anyone thinks of you is none of your business" become entrenched in the zeitgeist of the time but when you actually think about them, well .... are they as true as some would have us believe
