25.01.2022 Keeping it Lean and Green Consumers damage a lot of companies these days with many insisting we have an environmental conscience and doing their part to reduce plastics and minimise landfill rubbish. The reality is: for decades now the wasteful use of plastic packaging has contributed mountains of waste into landfill. Giving off harmful gases into our atmosphere, as scientists warn us more and more about global warming, as business owners we should be doing our part to reduc...Continue reading

23.01.2022 So, I bought a new office chair. No biggie. Why am I telling you this? Well, anyone who knows me will have heard me bang on about how important packaging is to... the success of any online business. You want your shit to arrive the way you intended. I was so impressed upon opening the carton to assemble the chair I had to take photo's. See the attention to detail this company https://secretlabchairs.com.au have taken in packaging this chair, there really is no way this was being damaged in transit. Even if the outer carton took a beating the contents where arriving intact. Yes this type of packaging is going to cost you a bit extra but isn't worth the brand value you add to your business? #secretlab #ecommerce #onlineretailer

20.01.2022 Just a timely reminder: Covid has caused an unexpected and unplanned surge in online shopping. This in turn has caused a backlog in the depots with some depots reporting delays of up to 3 days with sortation. Auspost is reporting up to 2 weeks delays in some areas. So, if you or your customers are waiting on deliveries, please be patient and don't stress. If you're a sender, might be a good idea to warn your customers so they are not waiting on a delivery unnecessarily. ... #ecommerce #onlineretainer #deliveries #couriers See more

20.01.2022 Hi All, Currently all carriers are experiencing couriers being stopped / flagged over for random COVID testing in various areas in Sydney. These stops can take upto an hour. This has, and will, result in delays that will impact the delivery runs and pickups. We have also had delays in border towns (VIC/NSW). At the moment this has been limited to smaller towns, such as Moama, with low pickup and delivery volumes.

17.01.2022 Just a short chat, feel free to ask any questions and share if you think its of value to anyone you know.

17.01.2022 Good Morning All, today I'm talking about selecting the right products to set you up for success. Happy to answer any questions and please share. Have a good day.

14.01.2022 I've been asked a lot this week if the new Melbourne lockdown will affect deliveries. No, transport is considered an essential service so your online stores will not be affected at all.

14.01.2022 How's your day going? this is just 1 of the amusing stories I've collected over the years. This is the story of Boris. In January 2011, we were commissioned to collect a large crate in Townsville and transit it to Melbourne. ... As Smart Send does not ask the contains, only that the goods are not dangerous, we sent the agent around to collect this large crate. In the meantime, torrential rains hit the Queensland coast from North of Mackay down, and the Bruce Highway closed from the north of Bundaberg with all freight stopped in its tracks. The large crate was unloaded at the Mackay depot for safe keeping, as the depot was getting ready to flood itself the staff moved all the goods in the depot to dry ground but this crate was simply too big so they popped it in the roof of the building hoping for the best. When the flood waters receded the depot staff climbed into the depot roof to check the crate had stayed dry and safe and get it down. They thought they’d better open the crate to check on the contents; can you imagine their horror when they discovered a huge seawater crocodile in the crate. Scream were heard until they realized that it was in fact a taxidermised croc and he had some friends traveling with him, a couple of freshwater crocs as well. They nicknamed him Boris and sent him on his way once the highway opened to the trucks. It took Boris 8 weeks the get from Townsville to Melbourne and to his new home, a private collector who just loves crocodiles.

13.01.2022 As an online business, you’re going to lose control. You can have great products and customer service but when it comes to delivery, things are (literally) out of your hands. Here’s where a delivery service can let you down: ... Failing to pick up the right goods, at the right time Delivering the wrong goods or taking orders to the wrong places Losing or damaging your customers’ items Refusing to cover the cost of damage or loss These dilemmas are not your fault, but they put your business at risk. So how do you take back control? First, make the choice direct to carrier or aggregator? The answer depends on what you have to send. For a range of differently-sized products, an aggregator makes sense. This provider will help you by keeping everything on one platform. Next, look at your provider’s customer service. Are they obsessed with providing a premium experience? Ideally, your delivery provider will have people based in Australia who you and your customers can speak to for help. Finally, talk to your provider! You need to know they have your back before you let them handle your goods. If you’re an online business, your delivery partner is a reflection of you and your brand. Choose wisely and you’ll always feel in control. #smartsend #onlineretail #deliveryservices

11.01.2022 Mothers Day is going to be a little different this year. No lovely breakfast's out with a glass of bubbles. This year we have to stay at home and celebrate by letting Mum know how much we appreciate her there. If you're planning on getting online and sending Mum something special to let her know you're thinking of her. Don't leave it to the last minute. The Transport companies are already struggling with COVID-19. No one wants Mum to be forgotten on her special day. ... Stay safe.

09.01.2022 As we close off another week I wanted to give you an update on how Covid is still affecting the transport industry. Now I can hear you groan, and thinking 'how long will it take for the industry to recover' . The facts are, online shopping in Australia has gone through the roof because of Covid, and as the shoppers that are discovering the ease of shopping at home in your own time there is not reason to think it will even drop back to pre-Covid levels. Its great for the ind...ustry in general but it does bring some teething problems with it. The industry in general is reporting 40-50% increases in volumes going through their depots for this time of year. This would usually be the quietest time of the year for transport. And lets not forget, there was no prior notice as there is in the lead up to Christmas. So how will this affect you? We're experiencing delays with deliveries across all carriers, not just Australia post. There are delays with customer service replies. This is a flow on from the depot working hard getting your parcels on board with the drivers for delivery, so they have reduced time to search for and reply to their CS teams about those deliveries that have 'issues'. Issues like, the label has come off, the driver can't access the property, check addresses, needs to be redirected..... The list goes on, I'm sure you understand. My advise, be patient, the carriers are working over time to increase their teams and train new staff. Be kind to the customer service person you're talking too, its not their fault. If your frustrated just imagine how frustrated they must be when dealing with 100's of queries daily. The industry has their staff working weekends in an effect to catch up and get transit times back on track. Have a great weekend.

09.01.2022 For those of you that don't know me, I'm passionate about helping online sellers get the basics right so they have a better delivery experience. And it all starts with good packaging. It is unreasonable to expect your delivery partner to handle and deliver your goods in tact and on time if you have not packed the goods well enough to withstand shipping. It is also a myth that consumer law will cover you if the goods are damaged in transit. This is not the case if the goods... are inadequately packed. Were possible, all goods should be packed into sturdy cartons with internal padding. If you ship lengths, such as fish rods, tubing of any sort or curtain tracks then they need to be shipped in tubes. Carpet rolls are perfect for this, most carpet layers or suppliers are usually only to happy to give them away. PVC piping cut to length also works. Furniture needs to be flat packed ect. Just a couple of layers of bubble-wrap or strapping larger items to a pallet is not good enough. It might cost a bit extra but it will be worth it in the long run. After all, at the end of the day you want a happy customer who'll buy from you again.

09.01.2022 I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a really busy week. Lots of meetings, things to do to improve ours services to you now and in the future. Now having a well deserved cocktail. Stay home and stay safe this Easter, we’ll be back at it on Tuesday to help you all again with your transporting needs. Don’t forget all things in moderation, we want you and your packages to arrive safely. Cheers

04.01.2022 Sorry I've been a bit slack, I've been busy tidying up the finishing touches on a couple of projects so we can release them and move onto the next thing. As we get closer to the end of the financial year and start to get back to normal after COVID, we need to, seriously start planning our Christmas shipping/shopping season. The transport companies plan this year on year, however this year will put a greater stain on systems that are already stretched to the max. COVID has seen an unseasonal increase of 40-50% in volumes going through the depots. Which all carriers are still struggling with processing within their normal transit times. No one wants to miss out maximizing the busiest year of the year. So, we just need to ensure we plan for success and have realistic expectations which your buyers understand, especially after COVID.

04.01.2022 As we get to the end of week 4 in lock down and the government saying another 4 weeks at least, I wanted to give you an industry update. I receive regular updates from the carriers. So far the carriers have no recorded cases. Any depot staff or drivers who have come in contact with a known case are immediately put into 14 days self isolate as a precautionary measure. All drivers and depot staff have a temperature check daily. All depots are closed to the public, so there... are no depot drop offs and pickups allowed. All deliveries are zero contact with the receiver. All pickups should be left out safely for the drivers. If you know your delivery is going to a business with reduced trading hours, please record that in the second line of the address if possible. **eg, open 10am to 3pm Mon, Wed, Fri. This will reduce double handling. Please do not send anything to a known case and do not send anything if you've been in contact with some one who has had a positive diagnosis. If we all stick to the rules, then it is business as usual. See more
