25.01.2022 Late last year, I attended the opening of the BMT Mercury Technology recovery facility in Kwinana, which was officially opened by Environment Minister Steve Dawson (pictured 4th from the left) and BMT Global CEO Robert Jan Dubbeldam (pictured on the left). BMT’s process is important for the oil and gas industry because it takes in and treats their mercury-contaminated waste, thus resolving an increasingly problematic waste storage issue for that large industrial sector. We ...welcome BMT to the Kwinana Industrial Area and to the numerous industrial input and output product exchanges with existing industrial operations (industrial symbiosis) that it can connect with. #FremantleOuterHarbour #KwinanaIndustriesCouncil #KwinanaOuterHarbour #NewPortinKwinana #LithiumValleyinKwinana #WesternTradeCoast #IndustrialSymbiosis #KwinanaIndustrialArea #BMTWestportTaskforce

22.01.2022 On 14 November, 14 students graduated from the KIC iDIVERSITY Project. 18.01.2022 The Bright Sparx Club is an after school club focused on sparking an interest in STEM to Year 9 students. The Club runs weekly during Term 2 and Term 4. We cu...rrently have 20 Year 9 students on the program. This is the 6th week of the program and yesterday students did a full day excursion which included a visit to #Tronox (Kwinana) site for a tour and to meet the staff. Students then visited Murdoch University South Street Campus where they had the opportunity to do a workshop in facial reconstruction and EV3S Lego Mindstorms thanks to the Outreach Officers at #MurdochUniversity. Students will graduate at a ceremony being held in December.
17.01.2022 Yesterday I took our 34 iMEN (year-10) boys on a 90 minute bus-tour of the Western Trade Coast. Photos included. Yes it was a windy day, and some rain. I explained to them what goes on in the industrial area, what products are made and where they end up, what new industries are coming, and I showed them where the new port will eventually go, and lots more. Many of these boys will enter our Certificate ll TAFE courses and ultimately join the ranks of industry employees. We also run a similar course for Year-10 girls (iWOMEN), well two per year actually. If anyone wants to know more about these courses (and we’re putting around 250 kids a year through them each year now), check the programs out under the education tab at www.kic.org.au Go on, do yourself a favour, grab a coffee and ‘take 10’ to have a squizz.
17.01.2022 After working very hard on this project, we are proud to launch our new website. It holds a lot of information about the Kwinana industry, the Western Trade Coast, and how it can develop into the future. We showcase members, projects, issues, and opportunities, and share our information under our extensive ‘Library’ tab. It holds informative videos, maps, reports, and papers for your use and information. I welcome any feedback you may have. Click here to visit our new website...: www.kic.org.au Happy exploring! #NewLookNewNormal #KwinanaIndustriesCouncil

15.01.2022 On behalf of the Board and members of the KIC we wish the members of this community a safe and happy Christmas holidays. It’s a stressful time in the lead up to the break, so a little more tolerance will go a long way toward everyone being happier and safer. To the workers in industry, we thank you for your efforts over the past year. There has been some tough stuff going on, but while we’re not out of the woods just yet, there is certainly the scent of optimism on the bre...eze. Remember to keep a watchful eye on your workmates at this time of the year, because some can be doing it pretty tough for all sorts of reasons. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all, and let’s look forward to 2020 being a great year for this region.
