24.01.2022 People claim it takes 28 days to break a habit. The good news is it typically takes 10 minutes, thanks to a dead guy called Pavlov. Free webinar coming up soon. If you want it, make sure you join this page for notifications: https://www.facebook.com/ChristineAnneSutherland

24.01.2022 It used to be thought that conditioned responses were quite robust, and required intense effort over time in order to extinguish. New research highlights an exciting "Achilles heel" that allows rapid extinction. https://www.linkedin.com//exciting-new-look-extinction-co/

20.01.2022 I’m currently overseas but on return will continue planning for a controlled trial comparing SDR Therapy to CBT for non-malignant chronic pain without clear etiology. I’ll be putting out the paper for general comment and peer review. If you would like a copy please join this page. I post very rarely and this is likely to be my last for 2019. May you enjoy health, peace and happiness at the end of this year and the beginning of the next.

16.01.2022 For anyone working with clients who have chronic pain, The Chronic Pain Memos for Psychologists should be required reading. * Why your clients have pain but most people never develop chronic pain * What your clients can do to reduce pain and what you can do to help them eliminate pain altogether... * What is the scientific foundation and scientific evidence for SDR Therapy for chronic pain * How we recommend working with your chronic pain clients https://www.linkedin.com//essential-reading-psychologists/

07.01.2022 In the article below I explain why the common approach to niching/specialisation usually doesnt work in psych practices, and share what my clinical colleagues might like to do instead. Theres no doubt that niching or specialising is probably the only way to grow a clinical practice to a solid level, or to be able to have the kind of practice or practices that deep down we really want, so please dont think Im going to dispute that niching is smart. What Ive found to be co...mpletely wrong though, is the ubiquitous advice to find your passion and make that your niche or specialisation that you base your marketing on. Rather than a key to success, it turns out thats more often a strategy for major financial stress, and even for failure. You see, as I discovered the hard way, if your target group isnt big enough, or your target group is not motivated to make any change or to make changes using your program, you will not reach them. And it doesnt matter how passionate you are, how clinically skilled you are, how good your marketing is or how incredible are the outcomes you can deliver. Your target group could be massive, and they could deeply desire the outcomes you can deliver, but they may not be interested in achieving those outcomes your way. My own big mistake was in identifying an absolutely massive group of people who wanted a particular result (weight loss actually). My book had been picked up by McGraw-Hill and published world wide, and my initial market research suggested that there was the beginning of a trend away from dieting and toward psychological approaches. I was pretty confident this innovative approach would prove to be wildly popular. Read the article below to see why we were all wrong, and what may be a more strategic and effective way to capture the clients we most want to serve, by first engaging with an entirely different client niche.

06.01.2022 Only by sharing our innovative methodology for the treatment of chronic pain with the wider health community can we hope to have an impact on one of the most widespread problems in the world today.

05.01.2022 Required reading for anyone suffering from chronic pain, and for all health professionals working with this client group.
