24.01.2022 Just like the chocolate in your advent calendar, our trees popped up at the pentanque court, were enjoyed and then disappeared for another year! That doesn’t mean there aren’t still (more robust) decorations and lights adorning the Main Street for everyone to enjoy . Merry Christmas!

23.01.2022 Just so you know, we’ve rethought our movie choice for the outdoor cinema at this Friday’s festivities. We’d planned to screen Love Actually in response to feedback, but in our rush to be responsive we forgot that there are a few scenes in that movie that aren’t exactly family viewing! Argh the risks of being reactive Fortunately our Child Safe team picked that up quick smart and sourced a more appropriate option for us. Check Out this great website - and the movie this Friday night . https://www.commonsensemedia.org//the-man-who-invented-chr

22.01.2022 New Year is nearly upon and soon our Christmas in Clunes decorations for 2019 will come down. But before we pack away all our lights and garlands we want to stop and give a BIG SHOUT OUT to the businesses and local groups that got behind our festivities this year. Celebrations like Christmas in Clunes don’t happen without help. While our volunteers were busy preparing decorations, these organisations made their lives easier by helping fund our events or replace decorations.... Our sponsors included: *The National Hotel *Clunes IGA *Clunes Market NEW *Hepburn Shire Council *Biggin & Scott NEW Christmas in Clunes is also funded by partners Clunes Neighbourhood-House and CTDA. The parade was event managed by Clunes youth as part of Art Attack. Meanwhile, have a safe and happy New Year and we’ll see you in December 2020! Ps. Decorations will come down during the week starting 7th January.

22.01.2022 Fabulous, free and festive! As the evening cools off tomorrow, join us for an evening of great music, free icy poles (for the kids - or the kid in all of us!) and Christmas carols. See you in Fraser Street.

21.01.2022 The film crew for Bloom have headed home and our volunteer team are beginning to transport the decorations down to our main street! Meanwhile people are asking out our plans for each Friday night. Print this off and pop it on your Friday or better yet, just come along.

20.01.2022 Only one more sleep until our Christmas Street Parade! It is promising to be a night full of good, old fashioned Christmas cheer and fun floats. Here is a little bit of logistical information. For our floats: 1. Float registration is from 6pm til 6.45pm in Purcell St, just beyond the entrance to the Caravan Park.... 2. The parade starts at 7pm from the pub end of Fraser Street and includes two laps. Remember there is a bit of a dip in the lane way (although we’ve tried to ease that as much as we can). 3. Rebecca of Russell:Evans will be helping us stage manage the parade. She may move you into order so you’re all safe and looking fabulous! 4. After the parade the incredible Hannah Cryle will be performing her circus street show out the front of Collins Place - so floats need to move back out to Purcell Street after the parade is over. For the audience: 5. There will be a few food carts near the front of the Warehouse on the street - but people will get great views wherever they stand in the street. The street is wide and long - so spread out! For everyone: 6. So that the parade can safely run we will be closing off Fraser St from 3pm - and Purcell St from 5pm. The only vehicles who’ll be let through are market stalls (we have a little Christmas market made up of local people that will be at the Service St end of Fraser Street) as they set up. We apologise for the inconvenience but will make up for it with lots of fun! We’ve got dried glue on our fingers and glitter up our noses as we all finish our floats - but we can’t wait to see you all tomorrow!

19.01.2022 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - well a bit like Christmas because we still have lots more decorations to go up yet! While Christmas in Clunes will look a little different this year, the little joys and warmth Christmas brings is helping us all get into the spirit!

19.01.2022 Beat the heat by keeping hydrated at tonight’s carols. Bring your own water bottle (better for the environment!) and fill up at the water fountain in Collins Place, or for free in any of the cafe’s/restaurants in town. We’ll start a bit later - with The Mercury’s kicking off at 7pm, followed by the Sweet Mona’s and then Kylie Auldist. We’ve won’t have the kids activities as they would’ve been in the full sun; but if you duck down to the Clunes Pool (free entry) before you... can let them have a play before the music begins. Our cafes/restaurants in Fraser Street will be open, with menus or special takeaway options. Bring a deck chair to sit on. We can all start under the verandahs and as the cool change comes through we can move out into the street. Merry Christmas!

19.01.2022 We are loving this tip! Do you have any eco-friendly lighting ideas?

18.01.2022 Excitement is building. The street decorations are nearly all ready and tucked back into their boxes to be transported down to Fraser Street. Once filming for Bloom is finished the decorations will begin to go up over the coming weekend. It’s a tight turnaround (normally we do it over two weeks) but we’ll still have time to make it look beautiful for the Christmas Street Parade on Friday, 6th December.

17.01.2022 Last night was ‘Lit Up’. We worked out which timers didn’t quite work, and where the team want to do a few tweaks. But basically the decorations are done Each year the decorations are put up by volunteers. This year the team included some familiar and new faces. Peter, Dale, David, Liz, Vik, Marnie, Hugh, Keith, Corey, Kyle, Taya, Bob, Carmel, Mette and Tom. They’ve been encouraged along by kind comments from residents and traders; and in a special boost, feasted with ...Quigley & Clarke (thankyou). Offers of help with scaffolds and ladders - thanks Steve, Mark, Suzie and Brian. Thanks also to Wayne and Chris who gave us a home-base at the Club Hotel so we could easily get the decorations out onto the street. Wesley College introduced us to the talented Wayne Morton (of Wayne Morton Designs) who is the award winning visual merchandiser responsible for the Christmas windows at Myer in Melbourne (among other things!). Wayne generously gave of his time and talents to help us decorate the rotunda. It was great fun seeing how a professional works, and picking up a few tips and tricks. Wesley College students - ably supported by Kelly - also helped us introduce a few extra elves to the mix. See if you can spot them? This year, as part of our focus on sustainability, all the lights are on timers. They will go on at 8.30pm and off at 1.30am. Thanks to David (who isn’t likely to be with us next year because he is planning to do some travelling in his ‘retirement’ - we’ll miss you David!!) all our decorations have been tagged and have their own asset register. The decorations will come down on Monday, January 6th. The planning and work involved in putting up decorations in an entire street is really a labour of love and each year it looks a little different. It’s driven by pride in the place we call home. It’s also an expression of Christmas spirit that reminds us that Christmas isn’t about commercialism or even getting everything ‘perfect’ (in fact, we are unashamedly unapologetic about any quirks along the way - they are part of what makes this a genuine experience). Instead, it is about coming together, celebrating, supporting each other (literally sometimes lol), feasting and most importantly enjoyment - for ourselves and others. So today, on the eve of our Christmas Street Parade, we wish you a very Merry Clunes Christmas this season.

16.01.2022 We started last Friday, and we are nearly finished. Just one more day to add remaining pieces and touches and then - lights on!

16.01.2022 Have you got your float ready for this year’s Christmas Parade? Excitement is building as we hear from people about what they are planning! It’ll be a parade to remember - followed by loads of circus fun, music, food and Christmas shopping.

15.01.2022 We have so many new entrants for this year’s Christmas Street Parade that we’ve asked the help of Clunes based creative team Russell:Evans to help us stage manage floats. Rebecca and Ken are helping us make sure that the stilt walkers (yep - stilt walkers!) won’t be next to the dog walkers; while also using some of their wizardry to create a special float just to capture the spirit of our parade!

14.01.2022 These are just the cutest ever!

13.01.2022 The beginning of the Christmas season was marked officially in Clunes on Tuesday, 1st December with a free BBQ (thanks All Nations Lodge!), tree decorating and the twinkle of the street lights switching on. The breeze rapidly turned 36 trees into 24. The decorations are likely to be rearranged on a regular basis by all and sundry. The weather each day is already tipping a few trees on their head. No doubt some trees may disappear (and reappear?) god knows where, and in f...act, the whole tree village might end up being a bit like the chocolates in your advent calendar, disappearing each day as Christmas draws near? Whatever occurs, all these possibilities are part of the fun! The evening didn't have the fanfare of a street parade, but it did have a simple charm that was soothing after the big year that has been 2020. So here is our wish. May your Christmas this year, be a charming one too.

11.01.2022 It’s time to put the final touches on your floats for the Christmas Street Parade this Friday. Even Neighbourhood House is entering a float. How is yours coming along?!

11.01.2022 Our Christmas Street Parade has grown and this year promises to be extra special!

10.01.2022 Create little candle holders inspired by snow globes!

08.01.2022 What happens when you re-purpose 36 artificial christmas trees and several decades of old decorations? Tree decorating is what happens. Or Christmas bombing. It depends on who is describing it lol! Join us on Tuesday, 1st December for some good old fashioned fun and a BBQ sausage feast (now free thanks to the Clunes All Nations Lodge). Stay until 8.30pm and see the christmas lights go on for the very first time. Numbers are limited to 50... https://www.eventbrite.com/e/tree-decorating-tickets-130830

06.01.2022 A lovely introduction to the talented team behind the costumes that will be worn in the Christmas parade - or in the crowd - this Friday. Parade starts at 7pm in Fraser St, Clunes. It’s a must to kick start your Christmas season!!!!

03.01.2022 We would love to see some photos of your Christmas trees :D

02.01.2022 When you drive by to see the Christmas lights in Fraser Street, don't forget to tour the rest of the town. Here is one address to add to your lights tour: Thanks Meagan! "Hello, we have decorated our home for the community to enjoy again for another year. 114 Fairview rd."

02.01.2022 Be in it to win it! If you are feeling festive, decorate your home, gate or letterbox and list it in the comments below so people can drive by and share in the joy. All addresses listed in the email thread below will be viewed by our guest judge (thank you Nicole Chvastek, ABC Broadcaster) and prizes announced late on Friday, 18th December 2020.

01.01.2022 There is something joyful about Christmas decorations. They may be prickly when you have to carry multiple garlands across your shoulders (although we had some great little helpers this year!), but the effect is always worth it. This was really brought home when a lady stopped to tell us that she hadn't really been looking forward to Christmas this year. She said, "but then the decorations started to go up and I realised that even with COVID, Christmas is something that I am starting to feel excited about after all." The lights will twinkle on Tuesday, 1st December at 8.30pm every night until early January when we start the whole process (in reverse) again. A huge thanks to the big and little volunteers that made this happen.
