23.01.2022 Lock it down and keep covered

21.01.2022 Nipper BBQ/ Set up & pack down roster for Sunday 29 Nov It would be great if you can comment below your commitment to the time slot for your age group name. 8am - U8 Blue 9:30am - U10 Blue... 11am - U11 White As always, thank you Harris Farm Markets for your PHENOM generosity and continuing to donate the delishhh food each Sunday. Even if your Nippers group isn't listed, we'd still LURV the helping hands! It's the best view in the house while helping out your Club

21.01.2022 Don't forget about the U9 - U14 Nipper Presso If you haven't already - stick it in your diary for Sunday 14th March. A Club email is in the making and will be sent shortly with mooore details about the day

19.01.2022 Important change to Nippers - Sunday 29 Nov As the pic says, tomorrow we're attempting to beat the heat by starting Nippers earlier. So session times will be moved forward to: U6, U8 and U14's start at 8 9am... U7, U10 and U13's start at 9 10am U9, U11 and U12's start at 10 11am Sessions MAY be cut short but this'll depend on a few things, ie the temp, crowds and sand temp etc and we'll announce if this happens a-sap. This will also mean BBQ duties and set up/ pack down will move to these news times too. If you're joining us in the morning, we highly recommend that you bring along cold cold drinks to help stay hydrated and load the sunscreen on too. We won't hold it against anyone that decides it's toooo hot and chooses to stay home in the a/c instead. Because of this crazy heat, we're kinda expecting to see smaller numbers in the age groups anyways. A Club text and an email have been sent to all Nipper families but it would be great if you can share the news with your Nipper mates too. Stay cool everyone

19.01.2022 Come on, sing it! Now that you've got the tune in your head - have a fab weekend!!

19.01.2022 National Water Safety Day Did you know that today as the first day of summer, is National Water Safety Day? Summers going to be hot and no doubt there's going to be loads of swimming. ... We'd like to send out a friendly reminder to all Cooks Hill members, their families and friends and the wider community to stay safe near the water this summer because if we can't see you, we can't save you.

16.01.2022 Deck the halls Repairs to our beloved deck of the original Surf Club is now complete. What a process it's been with so many wonderful members, local businesses and the community helping out along the way. Our previous deck FB post gave thanks to all the legends who were there at the start and during and now that the project has been wrapped up, our final thank yous are being directed to the gents of Patrol 3 who put the finished touches on. The gents grabbed a brush and primed and painted the railings to how we see them now. We're extremely grateful for the team effort by everything throughout this project. Now it's time to sit back and enjoy the serenity and that Bar Beach view!

16.01.2022 What an Honour Updating the prestigious Honour Boards has been on our 'to do list' for some time now. Having such talented sports members and honourable members at Cooks Hill has over the years has seen a long list of worthy names grow with the need to be show cased on the Club honour boards. After many meetings, discussions and exploring back through time, the wonderful History, Honour Boards and Photos subcommittee have successfully conquered this great task and we're h...appy to report... the honour boards are now up to date!! Huge thanks go to Stuart, Bruce, Ross, Mayo and Jockey (each a Life Member of the Club). The gents ensured that no name was left unturned and that the job was completed once and for all. They even enjoyed reliving the moments of the great achievements now proudly on display! Also thanks to our wonderful sign writer, Michele. Sign writers who still do gold lettering are tricky to find nowadays so we're grateful that we discovered Michele's talents. She really had her work cut out too! So many of our members have created astronomical achievements during their years here at the Club and we're thrilled to be able to continue the honour of displaying their names and success. Thanks to our members have been extremely patient during the process (and years even) while we got the honour boards up to date. Thank you Next time you're in at the Club, look up and have a wander through the history made here at the Club. It's pretty impressive!

14.01.2022 Bluebottles are out and about Did you know - a group of bluebottles is called an Armada We've been seeing an increase in beach goers getting stung by the dreaded blue bottle. Here are some helpful tips and reminders on what to do and not do should you find yourself stung by the nasty little blue creatures:... Wash off any remaining tentacles or pick off with your fingers (they can’t usually sting through the tough skin on your fingers!) Immerse the sting in hot water (no hotter than can be easily tolerated) If local pain is not relieved or immersion facilities are not available, the application of cold packs or wrapped ice is also effective. Refer to medical aid for further treatment if condition deteriorates. A quick note on some things that DON’T work for stings... Lifeguards and Lifesavers are often amused and entertained by the many strange and bizarre treatments people try to relieve the temporary pain of sting, such as; Rubbing sand over the sting (it just gives you a rash around the sting) Pouring soft drinks over the sting (just makes it sticky) Pouring vinegar over the skin (is vitally important for TROPICAL marine stings, but not for non-tropical stings) Urinating over the sting (it’s just gross, and doesn’t work anyway!) https://beachsafe.org.au/surf-safety/marine-stingers

03.01.2022 Our Squad of Cooks Hill competitors smashed out another awesome Ironman training session yesterday! Ironman training is a combination of all the swim and board training these kids put in during the week. Yesterday, after training the pace slowed a little while we all enjoyed a bacon and egg roll and a chat! Thanks to the coaches, parents who manned the BBQ and Harris Farm who kindly donated the goodies for the BBQ!

03.01.2022 Flying the Flag Our Nipper age flags are looking a little drab and we'd love to spruce them up (something like the pic below) and get all fancy and stuff! So we're putting the question out there - are there any members, local businesses or members with their own business who would be keen to venture in with us and get some sparkly new Nipper flags?... If so, please get in touch and let's chat more. Drop us an email to [email protected] - thanks!

02.01.2022 Another level of fun that we saw over the weekend was the brave efforts of our Boaties. Even with the challenges that the water gave, our team members gave it everything they had. Cooks Hill are super proud and thrilled for our amazing Boatie team mates, their ongoing commitment and efforts shown and passion for rowing with our brilliant surf club.

01.01.2022 An article from the Newcastle Herald web site. We are running our Welcome to the Beach program this year but with greatly reduced numbers. We are obviously restricted in our numbers and as such we are using a very small number of club support people to allow us to comply. The program will quietly proceed over a few weeks and we know how popular it is with participants as well as club members. The current restrictions have placed boundaries on numbers and as such please understand this is why we haven’t asked for support from our ever supportive members. Our commitment to our outreach programs continues safely despite the current circumstances. https://www.newcastleherald.com.au//the-community-program/
