21.01.2022 **CALL FOR SUPPORT** Dear Members, Followers, and the people of Darwin, In these very difficult times the Society is reaching out to you to support the following Restaurants that are generous supporters of the Society.... We have compiled a roster of these Restaurants which, if you can help, we suggest you order some takeaway food from, however large or small. We understand that we are all experiencing some difficulty right now, so take care of yourselves and your family, and wherever possible support others so we can all survive these unprecedented times and come out stronger when it is all over. Sunday 29 March - Happy Gardens (Parap, Casuarina or Palmerston) Tuesday 31 March - Roast and Noodle (they are opening for takeaway dinner) Friday 3 April - Cazalys Bistro (Palmerston Club) Sunday 5 April - Hanuman's Wednesday 8 April - Hingston's Chinese Restaurant Friday 10 April - Darwin City Hotel Cafe Gourmet House Takeaway (Berrimah) is also open Monday-Saturday 6am-5pm so drop in for a takeaway lunch. Nightcliff Newsagency is also open daily for your newspaper and lotto, drop in and show your support. As things are changing daily, look out for any updates. All restaurants and local businesses would appreciate your support any day of the week, or more than one day a week! Pick up your takeaway in your CWS shirt and hopefully you will pass a fellow member along the way, so a great opportunity to say hello (at a very safe distance!) and check in to see that we are all OK. Take care and be safe, CWS Committee

08.01.2022 Tonight, our elders will be celebrating the Hungry Ghost Festival. A traditional Festival that, unfortunately, is starting to be lost amongst future generations here in Darwin. The link below is an article written last year by the ABC explaining the Hungry Ghost Festival in Darwin. https://www.abc.net.au//hungry-ghost-festival-and/11413618
07.01.2022 The decision has been taken to defer the 2020 opening of the NT Chinese Museum to 1 April 2020 subject to ongoing review. This decision follows a review pertaining to small museums around the country and the precautionary measures necessary in face of the Covid-19 situation. These measures will place additional workload on our small volunteer team, many of whom are seniors, during what is normally a slow month anyway. We look forward to opening for the 2020 tourism season as ...soon as possible. For all enquiries relating to the museum please email: [email protected]
07.01.2022 Happy Dragon Boat Festival! The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional holiday originating in China that occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar and commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar, Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was one of the greatest poets of ancient China. He eventually drowned himself in a river and the famous Dragon Boat Festival originated from the legend of people racing out and paddling on boats to search for the poet...’s body. Today, the Dragon Boat Festival is a celebration where many eat rice dumplings (Zong Zi / ) and race dragon boats. The Zong Zi is a glutinous rice ball with a filling and wrapped in triangle or rectangle shapes in bamboo or reed leaves, and tied with soaked stalks or colourful silky cords. The fillings can be egg, beans, dates, fruits, sweet potato, walnuts, mushrooms, meat, or a combination of them. The Zong Zi relates to the legend of Qu Yuan as it is said that lumps of rice were thrown into the river to stop fish from eating his drowned body.
