25.01.2022 KNITTING AND CROCHET on Zoom ****************************************** Because we cant hold real gatherings at the moment the knitting and crochet group at Churchill Neighbourhood Centre is meeting via Zoom. The next group will be held tomorrow morning (Wednesday 27/5/20) at 10am. Everyone is welcome. The more, the merrier.... If youd like to join in, or just swing past to say hello, please message Bronwyn Halls or this page with your email address, and youll be sent an invitation by email tomorrow morning. Note: You will need to install the Zoom thingy on your computer, tablet or phone at some stage. Bronwyn has had enough knitting of floppy cats for the moment, so tomorrow will be making pot rests and a nutso beret for winter from old scraps, instead, using a knitting nancy! See more

24.01.2022 CONNECT, COLLABORATE & CELEBRATE! This week is Social Inclusion Week. It aims to help all Australians feel included and valued, giving everyone the opportunity ...to participate fully in society. Equality is when we are all given the same supports, equity is when we are given what we need as individuals, but justice is when the barriers are removed completely = social inclusion at it’s best!!

23.01.2022 Neighbourhood houses are a 400+ strong army across Victoria, battling loneliness and social isolation - not just during COVID-19, but all year round. When we su...rveyed over 47,000 participants recently, the data told us what we already suspected: Neighbourhood houses are essential for social connection. Its not everywhere you can walk in unannounced, have a cuppa and a chat, free of fear or judgement. With this years Neighbourhood House Week theme being Loneliness: the solution is community, were proud to release a new report on this issue. It focuses on the human, social and economic costs of loneliness and social isolation, the risk factors and barriers to connection, and the impact neighbourhood houses have on a participants sense of belonging and connection. 18.01.2022 What is gender equity? Gender equity aims to provide everyone with fair treatment according to their respective needs. Women and men should have the right to equal social status, power and opportunities and all of our voices, ideas and work should be valued regardless of our gender- however this is not the case. Watch this short video that delves into the reality of gender inequality in Australia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLUVWZvVZXw

17.01.2022 Sharing household duties While we find ourselves at home more with our loved ones it is a great opportunity to improve the family dynamic and ensure the load of daily household activities is being shared and managed in a respectful way. Research has shown that in general women do significantly more home tasks than men, and that their load is only increasing with the extra responsibilities of home schooling during COVID-19. We should be sharing the home responsibilities equitably with tasks such as cooking meals, doing the laundry or helping children with their homework or home schooling. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EXPCawJU4AANH_V

11.01.2022 This is a huge thank you and farewell post. Firstly, thanks to the generous people who allowed their homes or business to be a drop off point, without you none... of this would have been possible. There are too many to thank individually and I don’t want to miss anyone. I’d also love to thank everyone who has been involved with Uplift Bras-Gippsland either through donating a bra, holding a bra drive or telling someone about us. You have helped many many ladies around the world to own a bra, often for the first time. Thanks to my helpers over the years too, taking a car load of bras to Melbourne or packing and sorting them. Thanks must also go to Natasha Hoekstra who originally started this page back in the beginning and got the ball rolling in Gippsland. The page will officially be closed in another week, so after about 7 years of bras it will be done and dusted. Liz will continue to manage the main Uplift bras Facebook page until the last shipment or two has sailed. Without Liz and her many helpers the Uplift Bras organisation wouldn’t have been possible. It’s been a pleasure to be apart of her dream. Thanks again for making a difference to someone in a small way. Belynda
