24.01.2022 One of the highlights of the Wood Days weekend is, without a doubt, Saturday night dinner Tonight’s volunteer appreciation post goes to.... The Dinner Cre...w!! Each year, between 70 - 100 people line up for an absolutely mouth watering, three course meal. Malcolm shouting ‘DINNER’S READY!’ is as iconic as Kaye asking ‘Have you paid?!’ - the Wood Days just would not be the same without them! Once Kaye gives you the green light the meal begins Entree is soup and damper followed by roast meats, vegetables, casseroles, stews and salads and finishes with an array of sweet treats - tarts, dumplings, cream and fruit salad. Months of work goes into preparing this meal. Most of the food is donated and ALL of this is prepared on site by an army of volunteers These volunteers spend the day preparing the food - chopping, seasoning, stirring, cooking on the fire and then spend the evening taking dinner donations, serving up and washing dishes! This really is a meal from the Gods... the Wood Days Volunteer Gods! Does your mouth water just thinking of Saturday campfire dinners gone by? Would you have been lining up for dinner next weekend at the 25th Old Time Wood Days? If so, why not consider donating your $25 meal ticket to the Virtual Wood Days by following the link below? C’mon... Kaye would be proud http://cika.org.au/25-years-of-support-for-cancer-research/

24.01.2022 CIKA would like to acknowledge the incredible support we receive from both Cheryl and Normie. For many years they have quietly worked behind the scenes to help our auxiliary fund research into paediatric cancer. Cheryl and husband Normie have been regular attendees at CIKA functions over the years, including Trivia nights and CIKA Balls. They have often provided CIKA with lovely donations and even in these difficult times they continue this support. It is such a lovely surprise to find parcels on the door step or receive a phone call announcing a future delivery. Thank you, Cheryl and Normie, from all of us at CIKA, for your kindness and generosity. Let's hope we can get together at the Wood days in November. Living legends

24.01.2022 Here’s cheers to some of our community volunteers! These people run their own organisations and events and still choose to spend their time also volunteerin...g and sharing their expertise at Wood Days Every year Peter Cook and his Merry Men, Peter and John, join us at the Old Time Wood Days to provide entertainment and good cheer to the dinner crowd The very reliable volunteers from the Heywood Lions Club run the BBQ. Not only does this ensure the visitors are well fed throughout the day, it also takes enormous pressure off our dinner crew who are busily preparing for the evening meal Members of the Hamilton Wood Turners Association and the Australian Blacksmiths Association (Victoria Branch) share knowledge of their trades and provide demonstrations to visitors. It’s hard to believe all of this is accessible with just a $5 entry fee!! If you were planning on coming to the Wood Days this year, maybe you could consider donating your entry fee via the link below? Every bit helps to reach our $5k goal! http://cika.org.au/25-years-of-support-for-cancer-research/ P.S - Dont forget to keep your eyes peeled for our Online Auction launching Friday at 5pm

23.01.2022 Meet Janetta from Gol Gol. Since 2013 Janetta has frequently sent us very large boxes of magnificent goodies to be sold at our stalls. To date, we have received activity packs, pamper goods, soft toys, cushions, quilts and other wonderful goods that are sold at our events throughout the year. We absolutely love her energy and enthusiasm for CIKA and as you can see her workspace is one to be envied. We hope that one day we can have the honour of thanking her personally at The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. You are an absolute inspiration Janetta and your contributions are very much appreciated. #fundresearch #findacure

23.01.2022 Meet Colleen and David Clift, members of CIKA since 2003. They are the parents of James who was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in 2002. We are so appreciative that this energetic couple continue to channel a spectacular amount of energy and time into CIKA. We are also thankful that Colleen introduced CIKA to the wonderful MLC Kew where we have a continued presence and receive donations from them. Over the years they were the lynch pin at our major functions and continue to work on our website and newsletters. We are totally indebted to this magnificent couple for the work they have done over last year to bring our new website to life. Absolute champions, thank you.

22.01.2022 Meet Jim and Bernie, CIKA members since 1997. Initially joining CIKA as a way of thanking The Royal Children's for saving their son James, both filled the role of our Secretary with Bernie continuing to remain in the role years later. We would like to thank them both for the contributions they have made over the years, especially for introducing us to FOCUS, a magnificent group who continue to support CIKA today. They have also made many contacts over the years, sourcing products to sell at our fundraisers and stalls. We would like to acknowledge and thank them for their passion, commitment and drive #fundresearch #findacure

People come from far and wide to watch these displays in action. Year after year, these volunteers (and many others!) turn up to saw, split and sharpen using both old and new tools and methods. They spark interest and draw a crowd, who in turn, generously donate to CIKA: Cancer In Kids Auxiliary at RCH Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne... which is what our event is REALLY about Helping find a cure for Cancer in Kids If you’ve been to the Wood Days before, you may have seen a lot of these faces! 09.01.2022 Great to have some of the country events underway and Ruth along with Trish and Wendy had an early start at Woodend and are now up and rolling for a great day of fundraising for CIKA. Ruth has secured a lot of new product ( all donated ) toys, quilts and jumpers ( yes winter will come ) and 100% of all monies raised will go towards funding research into childhood cancer, which CIKA is committed to.

08.01.2022 Meet Rachelle Better-Johnston, a much loved volunteer that has manned our CIKA stalls for the past 4 years. With 25 years of volunteer work under her belt, Rachelle fell into CIKA after filling in as an emergency and she thankfully never looked back! Playing a pivotal role in livening up the energy at our stalls and smashing out sales, Rachelle is a very valued part of our fundraising efforts. There is really no dull moment at our stalls when this magnificent lady is around- as she puts it I don’t think a stall passes that I don’t have a laugh and a cry. Whilst we know Rachelle is honoured to engage with the incredible hospital staff, ever-resilient children and team at the rch, we are just as honoured to have her part of our CIKA team.

08.01.2022 For #TheGoodFridayAppeal last year, Sian planted and sold these magnificent succulents to some lucky purchasers. 04.01.2022 A huge thank you to the Hamilton Spectator for doing a magnificent story on both CIKA and Absent Friends Auxiliary. Whilst being in the thick of COVID-19, the means in which we fundraise, through stalls and events, has come to a halt. We have joined forces with Absent Friends Auxiliary to fund the solid tumour coordinator role at the RCH which will allow parents to gain access to clinical trials. We have been lucky enough to form some wonderful connections with the locals over the years and hope to continue this. We are extremely thrilled to be working with Absent Friends Auxiliary
