23.01.2022 The ABC hits a well overdue milestone with their Black Lives Matter episode last week. For the first time in the 59 years since airing on Australian TV an Aboriginal person has reported on ABC's Four Corners. Stan Grant, a Wiradjuri man presented on the show last week to discuss the relevance of the Black Lives Matter movement in Australia, and how his experience as an Aboriginal man has not been too different from that of African Americans. You can watch the powerful episode on ABC iview for free. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders viewers are warned that the following program contains images and voices of deceased persons.

19.01.2022 Happy International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples! Today we celebrate Indigenous people and the contributions they make to society. Indigenous people globally are the most disproportionality disadvantaged peoples in the world. There are an estimated 370 million indigenous peoples in some 90 countries around the world. They make up less than 5% of the world’s population, but account for 15% of the poorest. They speak an overwhelming majority of the world’s estimated 7,000 languages and represent 5,000 different cultures.

10.01.2022 Today is the anniversary of the first fly of the Aboriginal flag in 1971! The flag was designed by Luritja man Harold Thomas. The flag was originally designed for the land rights movement but has since become a symbol for Aboriginal people all over Australia. However, the Aboriginal flag is copyrighted meaning it is private property. This is the only flag in the world that is copyrighted and we cannot celebrate the Aboriginal flag without first getting permission from the owners (WAM Clothing). To learn more about the history of the flag and what you can do to #FreeTheFlag you can visit this link: https://clothingthegap.com.au/pages/free-the-flag

05.01.2022 We are very proud to be working on an important new campaign, to encourage cancer screening in our communities! Ambassador Dr Marilyn Clarke said the need for the campaign was clear. Since COVID-19 began, our communities and health workers have worked to keep communities safe and have been doing an incredible job. The hard reality however, is that cancer is still highly prevalent in our communities, so we have to remain focussed on keeping strong and healthy on all fronts.
