24.01.2022 Following on from last weeks post about $6 nail trims, this week is $6 anal gland expression That awful stinky, fishy smell and butt scooting is generally a sign of full anal glands needing expressing. Chewing front feet and depression are also signs. Not tending to full anal glands can lead to infections or abscesses which need veterinary care and can be difficult to fix. We can express your dogs glands whilst in the bath during their groom or you can pop in anytime Tue...sday to Saturday before 3pm inbetween just for them to be done. 20.01.2022 APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED FOR OSCAR FINALLY this dear little fellow is able to be put up for adoption.. Oscar ( already named) had some extensive dental ...work , his back teeth were shocking, and fact is, he must have a very high pain threshold, as eating with the gnashers he had would have caused a LOT of pain.. Poor little guy was in a bit of a mess as he also had some bad ear infection going on as well, and there was an abscess in one of them.. He is all cleaned up and out, no infection, rotted teeth removed, ears all sparkly, he's happy and healthy and ready to start the next chapter in his life.. Oscar is 7 years old, and he loves to sleep on Maries' bed.. he is a very affectionate little dog, enjoys being inside and does like to be the apple of your eye.. He needs someone who will make sure he has boundaries and rules...PLEASE don't treat him like he's a toy....he's a dog, and dogs with boundaries are much happier, as they understand you better, and they know what is expected.. He's NOT ready for the couch potato title just yet, he's 7, not 14, and still has a LOT of living to do.. If you have a dog, a friendly FEMALE dog will be best for him, and he is good with little kids too... of COURSE you will supervise him and any kids at all times.. NO idea re cats, but this sweet boy really enjoys being loved, is a kind little bloke and generally, being your best friend is what he will aim to be.. He is used to company most days, so we need to look for a home where he's not left alone, he's not going to enjoy that at all.. The pre adoption questionnaire is here: https://www.yppuppyrescue.com/pre-adoption-form Oscar will come out on a minimum 2 week trial, just so you get to know each other a little, see if you click.. He is now De-sexed Vaccinated (c5) Microchipped Wormed and flea treated Dental completed with rotted teeth removed. New collar, lead, harness, seat belt extender, some hard natural treats and once the adoption is going ahead, we start the change of ownership and post out all of his veterinary paperwork and a goodie bag with a FREE Advocate spot on treatment etc. Oscars' adoption fee is $580. He is in Kadina, Yorke Peninsula.. We do NOT freight our rescues, sorry.

18.01.2022 Summer weather is fast approaching us. What we find this time of year are alot of dogs who havent been maintained through winter and come in to us very matted. The most problematic dogs are the oodles as they have the poodle coat which being curly, is already halfway to being matted if not brushed firmly often (twice weekly). We cannot become miracle workers and detangle a seasons worth of non brushing and keep your dog fluffy . It is painful and impossible to do. We have... to take them as short as the knots/matts dictate so if they are matted right up to the skin, thats how short they have to go. The good thing is now is the time to do that as hot weather, long, thick, matted coats dont go together but it grows back! People are sometimes disappointed with the look of an almost shaven dog as their legs can look skinny and bony and their skin can almost be showing. Yep, not the nicest look but we dont just take them that short because we like it (we dont). People have gotten angry not realising how bad the coat was and how short the cut would be. The best way to avoid this is to brush through winter even if you do it badly, at least then the knots are looser and we may be able to save some length. I want everyone to be happy with their dogs trims and it saddens me when people think that because they have asked and are paying for the haircut that we can do what is asked and are irritated when we dont. We cant. We are then somehow held responsible which is not fair. The other issues that arise with matted dogs are skin irritations, exposing embedded grass seeds in the skin, urine scalding in the groin, exhaustion on the dogs part from being pulled around for sometimes twice as long (clipping matted dogs is harder and risks nicks in soft skin areas). It is painful for the dog to be in matted condition so we need to go slowly, sometimes the dog can be jumpy. I am just making this post to encourage people to get in asap and get your summer trim and ask us for tips to maintain inbetween time. This will reduce the necessity to clip right back to the skin next time if its too late this time! Education is the key!

13.01.2022 Alright folks, this is going to be a very difficult story to tell, but I feel compelled to share this information. This past week has been an extremely difficul...t journey for us. Our sweet baby Lily got into one of my houseplants and ended up fighting for her life at the emergency vet for nearly a week. She is now home with a feeding tube and a medication schedule that spans from 7 AM until 12 AM daily. There have been many tears shed, dollars spent, and guilt felt... all because of a $5 plant. Id like to spread the word about this houseplant because I had no idea when I purchased it from a big box garden center last summer that this little 6-inch plant would become my nightmare. The Sago Palm is a common house plant and landscaping plant native to tropical regions. All parts of the plants are extremely toxic to humans and animals causing liver failure and death from even minimal exposure. All parts includes the trunk, roots, leaves, and small berry-like seeds that can develop on mature plants. I have seen this plant for sale on the shelves at Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot sitting among other harmless household plants with zero warning label attached. ***Update: On Saturday, May 16, Lily passed away in our arms. She fought hard, loved hard, and gave us a couple butt wiggles just before she just couldnt fight any longer. We loved her so very much and gave her all the love and care in the weeks since the incident we could possibly give. We are truly devastated. If you are a houseplant lover, please research your house plants prior to purchasing. Even if you think the house plant is in a secure location, mischievous little paws may still get into trouble. Feel free to share this story. You may just save a life. https://www.aspca.org//animal-p/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants

13.01.2022 Pleeeeaaaase give 24 hours notice if you decide not to go ahead with your appointment. ESPECIALLY if you have more than 1 dog. It is very hard to replace you with no notice or a few mins notice. I am a small business and employ staff according to appointments booked in. It costs me every time this happens as I not only lose a groom but also have to pay the staff who were to do your dog

12.01.2022 Yes! CITY SLICKERS, MORPHETT VALE are still operating until we are told otherwise. Appts spaced apart. No person to person contact on arrival. If your dog hasnt been to us for over 6 weeks, please get in for a short hair cut now! 0403 473 473

12.01.2022 In the last week my only sources of income suddenly stopped - a small entertainment agency business of 27yrs and most of the Furkids who were booked in through ...to sept were cancelled due to Covid 19. I am sure many of you are in a similar situation and I sympathise with you. In order to be here for you all if & when things return to normal I need to place this ad today to bring in some more Furkid work. Second Home Dog Care offers care for your Furkid when you need it. Furkid care is needed for all sorts of reasons not just when you are going on holidays ; You may be having a baby and know that it will be so hectic that week that your Furkid may not get as much attention as normal or that you would like to bring baby home for a week first, settle in and then introduce your Furkid to your new non-Fur kid You may be doing house or yard renovations You may be having an extra busy work week coming up You may decide you need a weekend away You may need to attend a weekend wedding. So I would just like to remind you that I am here to offer that care if you need and to let you know that I also offer Furkid Day Care in an intimate setting with at most a handful of other Furkids, this can include a meal, a run with the pack (if there are others booked in that day) and an overnight sleepover if you want. Day care is perfect to break up your Furkids week with some stimulation and attention. The Furkids who stay here have the best time. We go on a daily run, mostly the beach but at colder times of the year there are many great run areas to go to. They love my garden, they love being in a pack and endless hours of play and they love being able to be wherever they want to be within my home as it is their home while they are here. I work from home so they are often in the office with me when they are resting or simply if they just want to be. I also constantly train them whilst here as a normal part of the day just as I did in all the years I had my own Furkids. I make sure I am totally aware of their bodies so that I can notice any abnormalities and sometimes I find things that even the Furkids Parent was not aware of. They have access to all areas of the house and garden including my bed at bedtime :) Whether you provide their food or I do they all get raw treats throughout the day like various fruits and dried liver treats with carrot time and peanut butter in dates time being favourites. I am based at Maslin Beach and the beach north of the ramp is an off leash dog beach all year round so we are lucky. The only requirements I ask is that your Furkid is desexed, microchipped, extremely dog friendly and dog socialised and preferably 1yr and over unless they have been partially trained or come with an older sibling. If you would like to find out more please primate message me via my fb page https://www.facebook.com/bev.luff and I can answer any questions you have, attach the fee schedule for you, check your dates on the schedule and arrange a meet & greet if you want so you and your Furkid can see the house and garden. If you need some references let me know and I can ask a couple of the Parents of the many Furkids who have stayed here over the last 18 months and see if they will give a verbal one. Thank you reading this far and thank you for your time. The video is from one of our cliff runs :) turn sound on to see why it is titled "Labs Come" :) https://www.withcompassion.com.au/secondhome-dogcare

11.01.2022 This is all I plan on doing when in quarantine

09.01.2022 Sadly this is an upscale puppy mill!!!! Do you know what the red box on the front of each cage is for? This red box can be filled with enough food/water to l...ast 7 days. That means the puppy mill owner can stock those red boxes, walk away, and won't have to return for 7 days. Many owners even turn the lights off in those stinky barns so they can save on electricity. That's not much of a life, is it? Don't buy puppies online and don't buy from a pet store, because you are supporting puppy mills. Please share. Please tell at least one person per day about puppy mills and that adoption from a shelter or rescue group is the best option. Be The Voice! 06.01.2022 RUH-ROH! This dog may have stolen his owner's false teeth, but she can't seem to stay mad at him.

06.01.2022 Honey is returning to our care for re-homing again after being diagnosed with Cushings disease/ syndrome (confirmed via blood test). Honey is a 14 year old gorg...eous girl whos owner originally passed away. Honey then came to us to be re-homed, which she was, however has now returned due to her health issues and unfortunately her owners failing health as well. Honey has limited sight and hearing and requires medication daily and regular blood tests, to ensure her medication is at the right level. Honey has been in a loving home, make no doubt about that, with one person, so she is familiar with being the center of attention. She is familiar with company 24/ 7 and being a real companion. Honey is also familiar with being inside for majority of the time. We are looking for a home for Honey whereby the above requirements will be met without hesitation as this little Honey deserves it! Commitment to her medication regime is imperative as that is her life line. If you feel that you are able to meet the above requirements then please pm the page for an application.

05.01.2022 Closing from midnight as per government Covid orders. If anyone has any existing appointments between now and next Wednesday and would like to come today, please call 0403473473

02.01.2022 ***WARNING DOG BAITING*** There has been reports of dogs being baited in Hackham, Trott Park, Aberfoyle Park and Morphett Vale. If you know any other areas to a...dd to this post please comment the suburb below. It seems that snail pellets and rat sack are the main types of bait being used near dog parks and private properties. Please be careful walking your dogs and watch what they pick up. See more
