This is particularly important for people with pigmentation issues like melasma or sun damage. Not all sunscreens are created equal though, so what is the difference and which one is best for you? Physical Sunscreens contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which create a physical barrier on top of the skin. The sun’s UV rays are reflected... and therefore do not penetrate the skin’s surface. These sunscreens can feel heavy for some people but they are the best option for those dealing with melasma. Chemical Sunscreens tend to have avobenzone, octinoxate, and oxybenzone as their active ingredients. These chemicals absorb into the skin, convert the UV rays into heat and then release them from the body. These sunscreens are a good option if you have oily skin so want something a bit lighter and/or water resistant. There are pros and cons to both sunscreens, so choosing the right one for your skin type and main skin concern is the best way to ensure that you actually use it everyday.
