07.01.2022 Did you know our region has a flour-milling history? Back in the 1800's, flour was transported from local mills at Old Noarlunga, McLaren Vale, Willunga, and Aldinga to Port Willunga by bullock dray for export to other colonies. Whites Valley a small, semi-rural township nestled between Aldinga and Willunga was named after Samuel White (a ship owner, flour miller, businessman and farmer) who established a farm and built a number of flour mills in the area. ... White’s Flour Mill, on the curved section of what is now Little Road, featured a tower about 12 metres high which became known as ‘the castle’. Samuel built cottages for himself and the mill workers, several of which are still standing as private residences and rental accommodation today. 04.01.2022 Every year approximately 1200 people are killed and another 44,000 are seriously injured on Australian roads. These are alarming statistics and it’s incredibly important we all do our bit to make our roads safer. This week is National Road Safety Week, an important reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility whether you’re a driver, motorcyclist, passenger, cyclist or pedestrian.... It’s a time to remember those who’ve lost their lives or been injured on our roads, as well as their families and friends who are forever affected. It’s also important to acknowledge our first responders who are confronted with the horrors of crashes every day and work tirelessly to protect us. We urge you to take the pledge to drive, so others can survive. You can do this and find out more about National Road Safety Week here www.roadsafetyweek.com.au #Onkaparinga

01.01.2022 HAVE YOUR SAY Do you think our draft Strategic Asset Management Plan is easy to understand? One of our goals is to be more transparent with information sharing and we're keen to hear your feedback about the new format. You can review the draft document and take our quick survey (with three simple questions) to provide your feedback here https://yoursay.onkaparinga.sa.gov.au/strategic-asset-manag... We own and maintain a diverse asset portfolio, worth approximately $2.9 billion. These assets include everyday items we may take for granted such as buildings, bridges, roads, paths, parks and reserves, carparks, lighting, bus shelters, vehicles, coastline and much more. We aim to provide assets that meet community demand, provide a value for money service that maximises the life of our existing assets, and ensure that budgets are allocated appropriately for building new assets. We will be updating this document annually to help provide our community with current and accurate asset information. The survey is open for three weeks until Sunday 13 December 2020. #Onkaparinga #SAcouncils #PartOfYourEveryday
