08.01.2022 SCAM ALERT: Watch out for phone calls from obviously overseas prospectors claiming a particular real estate company has just sold multiple properties in your area and they can get you a fabulous price because they have buyers lined up. I’ve had several recently: They are using electoral rolls and don’t even know if you own the property you are living in but they know the names of the inhabitants because you are a registered voter. If you ask them the street address of said s...old properties and price paid they will say it’s confidential - it’s not, it’s a SCAM. A real Agent will tell you: the name of the Agent/ sales person who made the sale and give you their phone number to check the sale price and particulars (it should be their lead anyway if it was a genuine Agency call), the Agency’ name, address & website details, the date of the alleged sale & settlement date, how many days it was on the market and if the original list price was reduced, if so, by how much. If they say they have sold several, ask for the addresses, suburb and then check on major portals if this is actually true. In the above scenario of unsolicited calls the Agency mentioned does NOT exist - there may be an Agent with a similar name but they are not associated with these callers. They are SELLING your data to a THIRD party and getting paid by that company who then on sells hot leads to a real agent.
