25.01.2022 Can you feel that summer is right around the corner? We’ve got some hot weather on the way in South Australia, so let’s take action to prepare and be safe: - Se...rvice your air conditioner by cleaning or replacing its air filters according to the manufacturer’s instructions, so it’s working before you need it. - Prepare a cool room in your house using air conditioning, fans, curtains and blinds. - Plan your days to avoid going out during the hottest part of the day. - Know if members of your family, friends or neighbours are at particular risk in the heat and make a plan to check on them regularly. And, when it is hot, remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and take steps to keep cool, such as wearing loose light-coloured clothing and using cool packs. Don’t forget your petsmake sure they have plenty of water as well! For more tips on how to be prepared for hot weather, visit our website. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/heatwave/

23.01.2022 The Clare State Emergency Service had an interesting training scenario last Thursday night and volunteers found them in a very prickly situation. The scenario: The South Australian Ambulance Service requested that the Clare SES assist with an extrication of a casualty who was injured in a tight space in the back yard of a residential property. Upon arrival at the scene our volunteers found the casualty injured and lying in a small garden enclosure full of very spiky cacti at ...the back of the property. After some very careful removal of the spiky hazards, our volunteers successfully extracted the casualty safely from the space and stretchered them to safety. Needle-ss to say it was a challenging rescue. Well done to all those involved. Thank you to Jim & Paula for allowing our unit to train on their property. See more

22.01.2022 We always mention having an emergency kit ready before a storm, flood or any emergency just in case. But, what do we mean by an emergency kit and what should yo...u include in it to be best prepared? An emergency kit is where you store essential and important items that will help you in times of emergency. Some important items we suggest you include in your emergency kit include: - a battery-powered radio with spare batteries, so you can listen to your local radio station and keep up-to-date with the situation if the power goes out - a torch with spare batteries - a first aid kit - important papers, including emergency contact numbers. These items can be packed ahead of time whereas other itemsa mobile phone and charger, prescriptions, or pet food and leadsmay be packed when you are ready to leave. Having an emergency kit ready to go can help you save precious time if you have to leave in a hurry. Download our emergency kit checklist on our website and prepare your kit today! https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/public/download.jsp?id=121604

22.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning Weather Situation: A vigorous front associated with a complex low pressure system will sweep across the State this evening and early Wednesday morning. The front will first impact western coasts from late this afternoon then move eastwards to reach central parts including Adelaide around midnight. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h are likely with squally showers and thunderstorms for a period ahead of and following the front as it moves across th...e warning area. In addition, localised destructive wind gusts in excess of 120 km/h are a risk with stronger showers and thunderstorms, mainly about western facing coastal areas with and just ahead of the front. Damaging winds averaging 50-70 km/h at times are also possible away from shower activity. The threat of severe winds will move eastwards and ease later Wednesday morning. A cold, fresh to strong west to southwesterly airstream with scattered showers will persist. For the Adelaide area, the main risk period of severe winds will exist from around 9 pm tonight, through to around 3 am Wednesday morning. Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Ceduna, Maitland, Murray Bridge and Kingscote. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your property. * Keep clear of fallen power lines; * Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
