23.01.2022 Today the Senior Photography class went on a photo hunt. They had 10 things to find and take photos of. As their photo taking has improved so much the students have started to concentrate on their editing techniques.

22.01.2022 Over the past few weeks, students and staff in the Lower Middle school have participated in play sessions where the focus has been on talking like a kid! Through the context of sensory and imaginary play we have explored how our AAC systems help us to communicate in fun and imaginative ways. In preparing for these playgroups, we ask ourselves what do we think the students would want to say about this? What might they find funny or interesting, and how might they want ...to express it? We then ensure that we provide lots and lots of modelling of kid speak as we engage with the students. We model comments, ask questions and have fun while we pretend! When we talk like a kid, we are more interesting and relatable. By modelling AAC in this way, we are giving the students powerful examples of the words that they might like to use. This in turn really helps them to understand that their AAC system is their voice. Check out these photos taken at our recent playgroups. The students and staff certainly had LOTS to say while we were playing and learning! See more

01.01.2022 Dear Families and Staff What a term this has been. We could not have imagined this time last year that a global pandemic would have had such an impact on schooling across Australia. This post is to celebrate the way in which everyone in our community has come together to support the learning and well-being of our students. These have been extremely challenging times but the students at Claremont Special School have achieved amazing things through the hard work of families ...and school staff. I want to thank each family member for conducting learning@home and supporting learning at school. I would like to also give a huge shout out to the Claremont School Staff who have had to work differently and harder and longer and through uncertainty while also being parents, grandparents, partners and children themselves. You have continued as essential workers through this pandemic with an unrelenting positive approach with the best interests of students in your mind. Thanks to each of you from the Claremont Admin Team. See more
