16.01.2022 We will be staying in Charming Family run First Class Guesthouses throughout. Our experience is that Cuban Hotels tend to be poorly ,maintained, service is not great and are very expensive. For that reason we have chosen to stay in lovingly maintained Guesthouses ( bed and breakfasts)- in the best locations. All rooms have private facilities.(Pictures are typical of First Class Cuban Guesthouse)

12.01.2022 "El Capitolio" is a majestic building in the heart of Havana. In the process of complete restoration it will be Cuba's finest building of the golden era - the 20's and 30's. It was the seat of government until Mr Castro came to power - it is now the Cuban Academy of Sciences. The vast difference of it's surrounding buildings is certainly a photographers palette ! Certainly mine !

09.01.2022 I'll be regularly posting some of our stops we plan to make on our journey throughout Cuba. First off is food !! One of my favourite topics. We will be visiting one of Havanas newest culinary sensations - a paladares called Ivan Chefs Gusto. Paladar (plural: paladares) is a term that in Spanish translates literally to "Palate" and used with that meaning in the Spanish speaking world, however in Cuba is used exclusively to refer to restaurants run by self-employers.... Already on the foodie shortlist of must-visit paladares in Havana, Ivan Chefs Justo has gained recent notoriety for cooking for various United States Senate delegations visiting the island, as well as the likes of Paris Hilton. Imagine eating at the same place as Paris Hilton - hope the dog didn't poop there !! Well I'm sure the UN people actually have great taste given the boondoggles they're always on !! I can do with not visiting a Paris Hilton visited restaurant !! I've personally eaten there with Mr Nick Verykios - magnificent feast of cubo-fusion cuisine !

09.01.2022 One of my favourite places to eat,drink,puff and listen to the hypnotic tunes of afro-cuban players - oh Hemingway beat me to it !! LA BODEGUITA DEL MEDIO - his preferred hang after he's had his daiquiri @ La Floridita (more to come of this famous spot)

08.01.2022 Barcadi was founded on the shores of Cuba by Facundo Bacardí Masso in 1862 - his 2 secrets: filtering the rum through charcoal, which removed impurities and ageing the rum in white oak barrels, which had the effect of mellowing the drink. The final product was the first clear, or "white" rum in the world. One of the most spectacular buildings in Cuba is the Bacardi builiding.... The purely art deco landmark was completed in 1930 and was at the time the largest building in Havana. After the Cuban revolution and the departure of Bacardi from Cuba, the building continued to be used for offices. At the end of the 1990s it was renovated by the city historian's office. We will certainly be visiting this architectural marvel but more importantly drinking its invention !!
