17.01.2022 If you’ve been following me for some time, you may notice I love eating different colours. A pink grapefruit is no exception. So, why do I like different colours??? Well it’s because different colours have different health benefits. So red foods contain anthocyanins, a specific antioxidant. And antioxidants eat up free radicals. ... But let’s talk grapefruits and cancer. There has been some chatter in recent decades that eating 1/4 of a grapefruit a day can inhibit the metabolism of oestrogen which is bad news for people with risk of oestrogen positive breast cancer. However. the British Journal of Cancer research concluded that it DID NOT increase breast cancer risk, rather it did the opposite. I certainly do not eat grapefruit every day and not because of the fear of cancer returning but because I promote variety. 07.01.2022 What does it actually mean to be happy? This is a question that has been asked throughout history and many countries are now measured by their happiness index. To me, happiness is like a bright clear sky on a sunny day. It’s bright, joyful, warming and brings a smile to my face as I look up to the sky.... In contrast, unhappiness, to me, is like a grey, wet, windy day. It’s cold, dull, somber and I’m likely to stand with my face looking down or covered up to avoid the cold sensations. Like nature, I have happy days and unhappy days and both come and go. I’ve been reading and researching happiness lately and apparently 40% of ones happiness can be deliberately controlled. This means you can work on it with the right mindset. As a Nutritionist, I know ones gut also plays a role. I’ll be blogging on this soon so stay tuned.
