25.01.2022 WHALES FLY HIGH AT EDEN WHALE FESTIVAL 9 Members of the AKS representing Newcastle, Sydney, Shoalhaven, ACT and Vic, ventured to the southern NSW town of Eden,... for the annual Whale festival. The opening events on the Friday went well, but had 40km/h winds. Saturday started slowly with little to no breeze. We managed to get several kites aloft for the street parade, then it was a matter of chasing the gusts to get kites airborne. A great ground display was set up. The wind finally came and kites were sent aloft, with the whales attached. We had some good flying, and the crowd flocked to see them. The wind kept building, then things went crazy. Gusts over 40km/h saw kites come down and banners go flying off poles. Sadly, kites and things had to be put away. The flight crew enjoyed some relaxation time on the boardwalk out of the wind, and a great dinner at the pub. There was plenty of rain overnight, which pleased the farmers. Sunday saw wet ground and no breeze. Ian and Sarath checked out the Hot Rods, while we went to the coffee shop. Sadly, with no breeze and rain, kites were put away, and we visited the market stalls. Pretty much then rained on us all afternoon. It was great to catch up with the people from Eden again. Thx to the organisers and Shannon Woloshyn
