24.01.2022 If you are not already aware, amendments were made last week to Queenslands planning legislation to provide for business continuity and supply during an applicable event by removing planning constraints which could be limiting the operation and delivery of essential services. Covide-19 is an applicable event and the nominated period is 20 March 20 June 2020 (maybe extended). The amendments ensure that development assessment, plan-making, and other statutory timeframes... under the Planning Act 2016 and Economic Development Act 2012 can be managed, and that local and state government can continue to make decisions and ensure statutory timeframes can be met even if workforces are affected or reduced. Declarations have been made for a number of uses listed below. The effect is that a DA condition limiting hours or movement does not apply during an applicable event. For example, if a condition of a DA approval restricts delivery hours for a shop, those restrictions are removed. A combination of factors contributed to its suitability for demolition, including (1) a building past its economic life, (2) increasing safety risk from continued use, (3) replacement by more suitably located and patronised modern cinemas elsewhere, (4) priority development area (PDA) location, and (5) PDA scheme revitalisation planning intent. The Qld st...ate govt coordinates and controls land use planning and development within a PDA, with applications for development in the Mackay Waterfront PDA being made to and assesed by Mackay City Council and referred to State Govt to ensure state interests are addressed. Built in 1940, the art deco building was designed by Crick and Furse (Sydney) in collaboration with local architect Harold Brown. 21.01.2022 I took this photo yesterday afternoon while exercising my kelpie at my local dog park. Ive taken him there for the last 8 years. On any given day BC (before covid-19) there would only be a half dozen other people jogging or walking their dog (some begrudgingly as if it was a chore), but yesterday I counted between 80-90 men, women & children laughing & smiling (all socially distanced of course) & the day before that i counted about 40 dogs with their owners. It was not a Sat...urday and there was no man selling icecream singing italian songs, but that did not stop the lyrics from Chicagos famous song "Saturday in the park" bouncing vividly around my head. It also reminded me of David Hatherleys guest blog on our website Great parks make good financial investments (link in bio). Opinions aplenty have been expressed about life AC (after covid-19) & the many & varied changes/opportunities to be had (both good & not so good). I hope improved sense of community that this image portrays is an opportunity we choose to keep as a society. As i contemplate the new normal to enable this to happen, I imagine an increased workforce from home (@bernardsalt projects an increase from 5% currently to 10% at the next census), increased time for family, home redesigns that incorporate a recording studio for podcasting/teleconferencing as audiovisual technology replaces face to face meetings as the new marketing tool for small business, edible gardens where the size of ones veggie patch is compared at dinner parties as a measure of self-sustainability & social responsibility rather than socioeconomic status, reduced cbd floorspace demand/rents by corporates & multi-nationals as they split/rotate their workforce between home & office reducing costs & improved shareholder value, reduced contact hours for school students if the transition to homeschooling proves workable, less time spent travelling in cars & reduced numbers of vehicles on roads, improved global air quality & better environmental scorecard, The list goes on but right now i have homemade icrecream to make before my italian language lesson so have to run. . . #community #coronavirus #covid_19 #cleggtownplanning See more
