25.01.2022 Clementine 10 and 13. They will be thinking, Why has he put us in the shed? Why the wash on such a cold day? Why the quick run over with the clippers? Well , tomorrow is the big day. The two Black Dog Ride heifers are going to Perth to meet Liberty Winston 13 along with generous donors Kevin and Robin Yost and daughters Jess and Morgan who trained Winston. It will be interesting to see how they react to the sights and sounds of the city block? Perhaps that’s a clue as to where we are going. One thing is for sure. No one has ever taken a steer to this address.

25.01.2022 Our sixth visit to Iluka North Capel processing plant with our Black Dog Ride Mental Health Cattle. I feel part of the Iluka family. Over the past six years I have seen every effort made by this progressive company to raise awareness of mental illness in the community and its workforce. Mental health first aid courses have been conducted and a culture of looking after your workmate has developed. I occasionally meet employees from this company and although I have trouble recognising faces or remembering names they know me and step forward to speak positively about our cattle and the bosses efforts to keep them and their family and friends safe.

24.01.2022 Clementine5 is back home and is in calf. Given to Black Dog Ride last year by Sue and Matt Daubney of Bannister Downs Dairy Farm she travelled to Wyndham last year meeting people of all ages along the way raising awareness of mental illness like bullying and anxiety. Artificially inseminated by Nutrien Breeding technician Steve Mountford I then took her to Unison Limousins star Stud Sire, Hammertime. Thank you Kevin Nettleton for assisting again this year and confirming Clementine5 will be a new mum early in the new year. We plan to offer her for sale at the Nutrien Ag Solutions Elite Springing Heifer Sale In December 2020 at Boyanup.

23.01.2022 There are some incredibly clever people in this world. I found this amazing structure on a rural property near Northam. Made out of old ring lock fence wire this Clydesdale was in perfect proportion. Nostrils, ears, the muscle profile in his hind legs. All perfect. And it’s right next to the road, easy to see.

23.01.2022 I have only had Clementine 13 for two days and already she has settled in . She leads, loves a grooming and is attached to Clementine 10. Move one and the other calls don’t forget me. Thanks Lachlan from Katandra Park Jerseys & Holsteins for giving Black Dog Ride this lovely calf. We are off to Newton Moore Senior High School in Bunbury on Thursday. It will be interesting to see her react to hundreds of excited school children. Was able to introduce her to Nick Johnston and his friend Sophie. Of course she handled the occasion well. It will be more of a challenge perhaps when she meets little people. Roll on Thursday.

22.01.2022 Could not pass this piece of art in a paddock near Northam in W.A. I was taking two Clementines to a Farmers Market in town. I regret not getting them out of the float for a photo. Simple solution. We will go back next year and do it then. I can’t believe so few people seem to know about the piece. It’s on Jennapullin Road, Southern Brook.

22.01.2022 Updated a couple of stickers on the Black Dog Ride float I use to take our Winston’s and Clementines to locations all around WA. Thanks Nutrien Ag Solutions for your support over many years. Thanks for your efforts Scotty and Brayden from Nutrien Bunbury.

20.01.2022 Thanks to S & C Livestock for all the work you have done to market this years Black Dog Ride steer known as Liberty Winston 13. Donated by Robin and Kevin Yost and broken in by their daughter Morgan, Winston 13 really is a ripper. Covid 19 has been a real challenge and your marketing expertise is proving invaluable. Keep up the good work. We are nearly in a position to announce the final sale details for this great Charolais steer.

19.01.2022 Winston 13 making a new friend and showing of his new jewellery.

19.01.2022 Here is a photo of Liberty Winston 13 joining in with owner Kevin Yost during smoko break. Liberty Charolais & Shorthorn are pregnancy testing their females and Winston is closely involved to get him used to different noises and sudden movement. Plans are nearly all in place for a big announcement this week. Normally shown at the Perth Royal Show then sold with the proceeds going to Black Dog Ride this year has been a challenge and we have had to be innovative in our efforts to raise awareness of depression in the community.

18.01.2022 I learned the hard way. When you take a six hundred kilo steer to iconic location you should have a yard. Thanks to my Iluka supporters who towed the Black Dog Ride trailer with portable yards to Perth. Definitely the first set of cattle yards erected on the front steps of Government House. Thanks Rohan and Marty.

17.01.2022 Busy times. I have started to receive invitations to attend various public events planned for the next few months with the Black Dog Ride Cattle.By now I have normally returned from the Kimberley’s with my pair of Clementines and they are completely at ease with whatever the public do to them. Covid 19 saw the cancellation of the Kimberley trip and can now best be described as a bit green. I felt it was in everyone’s best interest to swap my beautiful jersey heifer given to... me by Don and Lorelle Fry from Katandra Park Jerseys & Holsteins for a smaller model. Clementine 9 had become too affectionate. She loved a hug and a pat and loved to push back in our little exchanges. Trouble was she didn’t know her own strength. So thanks to Lachlan Fry for letting me pick up a younger calf. Meet Clementine 13, just five months old and with legs like a supermodel. See more

16.01.2022 I just received a photo of Liberty Winston 13. Donated to Black Dog Ride by Liberty Charolais & Shorthorn and handled by Morgan Yost on the family farm at Toodyay our aim is to raise awareness of depression in the community. We expect to announce plans of his sale this week so Morgan has been introducing him to the real world of people. Things happen, surprises, challenges, threats, noise, movement and Winston just takes it in his stride. Thanks Team Yost for your support and your Champion Steer.

14.01.2022 We finally did it. RUOK day and we took the the Clementines 10 and 13 to Newton Moore Senior High School. This is the second time we have been there but and with different cattle this time. The reaction by the students was the same. Bannister Downs Dairy Farm heifer Clementine 10 lapped up the attention while Katandra Park Jerseys & Holsteins Clementine 13 won the hearts of teachers and students alike.

14.01.2022 I only got a couple of photos of my support team when I took Clementine 10 and 13 to the Northam Farmers Market. My youngest and keenest stockies who wanted to lead the heifers. Remember when Clementine 2 won Champion Droughtmaster Female in 2019. The twin bull calves we called Starsky and Hutch were led by my helpers. Keely and Macy Smith from Albany. Twelve months later here they are with the Clementines. Thanks girls.

13.01.2022 We led the Clementines into the pen at Government House to meet Winston 13 when he arrived. It’s always good to have mates to join an animal on his first trip to a new environment. Alex and Esther were given the task to hold them.

13.01.2022 Travelled to Northam to attend a Farmers Market. Great opportunity to meet people and start the conversation. It is ok to say you’re not ok. This year has limited our chances to make public appearances but already they are old hands at the game. My offsider is Sean Smith from Albany who handled Winston 11 at Perth Royal Show last year. It’s great to see this young man keen to spend his time trying to assist ordinary people who may be experiencing mental health issues.

11.01.2022 Well done Morgan Yost. This years special Black Dog Ride steer Liberty Winston 13 looks a picture. I know the hours of work you are putting in . We appear to have overcome all the obstacles that Covid 19 has thrown in front of us . A private sale arrangement negotiated by Cameron Petricevich from S & C Livestock is all but finalised. Delivery details are being confirmed as we speak. A small gathering of supporters is being set up. I am sure Liberty Winston 13 will be remembered as a beautiful special steer in a very difficult year.

11.01.2022 So grateful for the involvement of S & C Livestock in negotiating the sale of Winston 13 to Harvey Beef for a record equaling $11,000. Thanks also to our supporters in the Iluka family. And what an amazing place to announce the sale. Government House, Perth. And we were invited back next year.

07.01.2022 Just what the doctor ordered. A neighbour called in with his two young children. Can we see your Clementines please? Sure can. Within ten minutes they were leading them around like professionals. They spent the next two hours grooming and cuddling both heifers. Can we come back after school this week? Sure can. I don’t have to worry how the students at Newton Moore Senior High School will effect them when we visit on Thursday. Off to a big minesite after the school visit. They will be tired on Thursday night.

06.01.2022 The next step down the road with Liberty Winston 13. Normally sold at auction at Perth Royal Show to enable Black Dog Ride to raise awareness of depression but Covid-19 stopped that this year. Pictured with Liberty Charolais & Shorthorn’s Kevin Yost and myself is Cameron Petrecivich from S & C Livestock who is marketing this years Winston. Winston 13 will be sold somehow, somewhere , sometime. Thanks to Cameron we are making progress. Thanks also to Morgan Yost who is educating and handling Winston for the information. Winston 13 was weighed today and tipped the scales at 538 kilos. A great weight for an eleven month old steer but reflecting the performance breeders regularly achieve with Liberty Charolais genetics.

04.01.2022 Clementine 10 found visiting Government House rather boring so she did what she does best. Chill out. Thanks Bannister Downs Dairy Farm and the ladies who rear these beautiful animals.

03.01.2022 A day we were very proud to be a part of, the 2020 Black Dog Charity Ride through the donation of our purebreed Charolais steer Liberty Winston 13. All proceed...s go directly to the charity which helps raises awareness of the BLACK DOG of depression. Winston loved being the STAR of the day, meeting the Governor of Western Australia Mr Kim Beasley and Mrs Nicola Forrest representing the Minderoo foundation, who paid $11,000 for the purchase of Winston. Congratulations to Peter & Judy Milton for their passion in supporting such a worthy coarse and to S & C Livestock as the conducting agents this year. A extra special thanks to our beautiful daughter Morgan who has done the fantastic job getting Winston ready for this special event. See more

02.01.2022 No one guessed but Liberty Winston 13 met Governor Kim Beasley at Government House today. All went really well and more photos will be posted when I get everything together. Many cameras at work while we held on to the cattle.

01.01.2022 While the yards were being set up at Government House some of the staff introduced themselves to Clementine 10 and Clementine 13. The ladies were super excited, the heifers took it all in their stride.
