25.01.2022 It is with great excitement that we can announce the successful recipients of the Medical Research Grants for 2021 and beyond Each year we fund grants to find better treatments and ways to cure the health related issues that are important to Tasmanians. This year we have contributed over $680,000 for medical research in North and North West Tasmania. This goes to show just how important collaborative clinical medical research is at the Launceston General Hospital and to the Clifford Craig Foundation. 20.01.2022 We are excited that this year you have the option to participate in Run & Walk for your Heart virtually over the weekend of October 3rd and 4th. All you need to do is complete the 5km run or walk in your own time and submit your time through the Snug App. When you register for the event virtually you will be provided with all of the details on how this works. A massive thank you to Snug for providing your support and enabling us to virtually time the race through the app. We are very appreciative

20.01.2022 To help reduce queuing on the day of Run & Walk for your Heart we recommend collecting your entry bib over the next few days from The Running Company - Launceston. The Running Company Launceston is located at 47A Brisbane Street and bibs will be available for collection at the following times: Thursday 1st October, 9am-5pm Friday 2nd October 9am-5pm ... Saturday 3rd October 9am-2pm Please note any entries received after 5pm on Wednesday 30 September will need to be collected on the day of the event. See you on Sunday

16.01.2022 This week is Antibiotic Awareness Week The annual event focuses on the serious health issues of antibiotic resistance and encourages people across the globe to handle antibiotics with care. Over the years' the Clifford Craig Foundation has funded numerous projects led by Associate Professor Stephen Tristram and his team in this field- often exploring and understanding how we can improve antibiotic resistance in people.

15.01.2022 With 7% of patients suffering from surgical infections when undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery, the LGH's orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Jonathon Mulford, has joined a four-year multi-centre trial in Australia. The study is searching for a preventative answer to reduce the risk of infection for patients. Launceston is one of 11 sites that are undertaking this study and over the period aim to contribute 450-500 patients to the trial. To learn more about how they will conduct the research, see below

10.01.2022 Earlier in the year, we asked for your support in funding a FibroScan for the LGH. On Friday, we were delighted to have the machine arrive in Tasmania and to present it to the liver specialist team. The FibroScan is going to be a major help to the hospital, who previously were borrowing one from the Mersey once a fortnight. The FibroScan identifies patients who have a stiff liver and are exposed to higher risks and complications of liver disease. Thank you again to all those who made this machine possible, we look forward to seeing how it changes lives in the Northern Tasmania community

10.01.2022 Introducing our next panellist for our International Women's Day Luncheon- Donna Adams from Tasmanian Police Donna is the Acting Deputy Police Commissioner. She has been serving as a police officer for 34 years and is the most senior female in the police service. In 2014 she was awarded the Tasmanian Telstra Business Women of the Year and national winner of the Telstra Business Women Innovation Award, as a result of her work associated with the development of a Front Line Strategy.
