17.01.2022 { SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDATION } To our sponsors, our partners and our incredible community, As a country, we are facing very uncertain times with the impact from COVID-19 affecting many Australian families and businesses nationwide. Upon review of the current Federal Government restrictions and also the current economic struggles the It’s a Bloke Thing Foundation has decided to postpone all fundraising luncheons and education roadshows until early next year. ... This has been a very difficult decision and not one we have taken lightly but as a not-for-profit organisation we rely heavily on the support from our local business communities and at this time they are hurting. Caring for the safety and well-being of our suppliers, sponsors and guests has been and always will be the It's A Bloke Thing Foundations most important priority, especially during challenging times like these. We can assure you we will be back with a bang in 2021! We want to thank you for being such a valued part of the It's A Bloke Thing Foundation and look forward to what 2021 will bring. It's A Bloke Thing Committee

16.01.2022 PSA TESTING Did you know that every year 1.3 million men worldwide are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer? Australia has one of the highest incidence rates internationally, with 1 man in every 7 Australian men likely to be diagnosed during their lifetime. While survival rates for prostate cancer are high (over 95% of men survive to at least five years), it remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men. With the growing Australian population and increasing life e...xpectancy, the number of men diagnosed will continue to increase. There are over 200,000 Australian men currently living with a diagnosis of prostate cancer and this year 20,000 more Australian men will be diagnosed and 3500 will die of the disease. Men should be offered the opportunity to consider and discuss the benefits and harms of PSA testing with a doctor before making the decision whether or not to be tested. Men with NO family history of prostate cancer Talk to your GP about your risks. Men with an average risk (i.e. no family history) of prostate cancer who decide to undergo regular testing should be offered PSA testing every 2 years from age 50 to 69. Men WITH a family history of prostate cancer Men with a family history (higher risk) of prostate cancer who decide to be tested should be offered PSA testing every 2 years from age 40/45 to 69, with the starting age depending on the strength of their family history. Thanks to Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia for supplying the information, read more on their website by clicking the link below. http://psatesting.org.au/info/

06.01.2022 MYTH BUSTER SUNDAY Last week we presented the statement: "Prostate cancer doesn’t run in my family, so the odds aren’t great that I will get it..." ... False. If you have a family history of prostate cancer, you have a higher chance of developing it, however, if you have no family history, this doesn't mean you're not *likely* to get the disease. Prostate cancer is an age-dependent disease, which means the chance of developing it increases with age. The risk of getting prostate cancer by the age of 75 is 1 in 7 men. By the age of 85, this increases to 1 in 6 men. Information sourced from Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia
