22.01.2022 Only a few days left for the CAWA photo comp. Have you submitted your art yet? Given how many entries are in, the probability of winning a three-month membership to your preferred climbing gym in Perth is quite high ;) Don't forget to tag #CAWAphotocomp and your gym. Best of luck ;) @ Perth, Western Australia

21.01.2022 INTRODUCTION TO TRADITIONAL CLIMBING SEPTEMBER 19TH AND 20TH It's finally here! We are hosting a workshop weekend at Wilyabrup for all of you keen climbers who want to take that next step and learn about traditional climbing and multi-pitching.... It's run by climbers, for climbers. So hopefully we can tailor the material to everyone's needs, but we'll be assuming most people will have very limited or no experience trad climbing. If you're wondering if this is for you, our prerequisites are: -- That you'll at least have your own harness, shoes, chalk, helmet, belay device. -- That you can climb around grade 16 or higher. The weekend is $60 per person, which also covers 2 nights of camping at Gracetown. You will need to be a member- if you're not you can register on our website. The spaces are limited so get in quick, registration is through the website www.climberswa.asn.au (although we do hope to be running these regularly if there is enough interest). Happy Climbing and stay safe :) Elinor

08.01.2022 What's happening in the great outdoors for the climbing community? A transcript of an interview on Saturday Breakfast show aired before Easter long weekend. Unfortunately, not much has changed since then for climbing. Only that National Parks are now opened.

06.01.2022 Not sure what's the story about outdoor climbing in these times and have a spare 10 min between your workouts? If so, listen to David's (our secretary) interview on ABC Radio Perth from last Saturday on Saturday Breakfast show with Christine Layton. https://drive.google.com/open Unfortunately, nothing has changed since it was streamed.... UPDATE: Sorry everyone, due to licensing issues we had to take the audio down. We'll try to replace with the transcript.

06.01.2022 To celebrate the amazing effort by Emily Harrington on El Cap last week, tell us in the comment section what your longest ascent was! It can be local or while travelling. Excited to hear about your adventures! https://rockandice.com//emily-harrington-frees-el-caps-go/

04.01.2022 Some of you may have noticed changes in Mountain Quarry over the last two weeks! Thanks to a donation of top rope anchors from the fabulous folks at Urban Jungle IRC, CAWA has been able to complete anchor upgrades on 17 of the most popular routes! Many thanks to Urban Jungle IRC, and all our members and supporters who donate to the CAWA rebolting fund. Just some quick points on how to use each of the anchors:... Lower-off welded rings - Use quickdraws or other appropriate setup for all top-rope climbing as per a standard bolted anchor (the carabiners can be clipped directly to the bolts or welded rings). The technique to retrieve quickdraws/lockers at the anchor and lower off is not changed, however, thread the rope through the welded rings instead of the anchor bolts. Fixed Top Rope Anchor (1 x clip gate and 1 x locking gate carabiner) - Simply clip the lead / top rope into both fixed carabiners, then lower off or top rope using the anchor (quickdraws for the anchor are not required). It is not required (or at least optional) to tighten the locking gate carabiner.
