22.01.2022 Did you spend lockdown thinking you should have taken up a new hobby? Tried to learn via YouTube are you’re just not getting it? The City of Stirling is hosting a Let’s Knit! Workshop at a subsidised rate to encourage people to take up a hobby. Knitting is great for mindfulness and keeps the brain ticking over. Age is not a barrier to learning a new skill. If you can hold a pen, you can learn to knit. The group size is very small, so you’ll get lots of support and encouragement and leave with all the resources you need to continue your knitting journey! Tickets through Eventbrite, link below. $30 http://eventbrite.com.au/e/115949918327

22.01.2022 Mr wasp took a liking to my drying yarn overnight. It’s still drying so he can stay there as long as he likes. #yarn #yarndyer #yarndyersofinstagram #wasp #nature #merinosock #speckles #handyedyarn #riverviews

18.01.2022 I love when I can catch up with people I’ve taught to crochet Nana has been to a few classes and really expanded her knowledge and skills to the point where she’s going away from patterns and starting to experiment and design her own projects. We caught up for coffee and she brought her dishcloths that she learned only last week at @crosswayswoolandfabrics #crochet #crochetteacher #crocheting #iloveyarn #newskills

16.01.2022 During lockdown I motored through a number of crochet projects that involved simple stitches but some technical engineering. They’d been bundled into work in progress bags until I could give them full concentration. This top was one of them. Made using a Lola that was a gradient yarn moving from a very dark grey to a very silvery light brown. I’d bought the yarn from @yarnishau about three years ago and had stashed it because I loved the colours and wanted to make somethi...ng for myself I worked the two sides separately but using the same cake (from opposite ends of the yarn) with the intention that I would end up with the edges (joins) being near enough the same colour. Best laid plans and all that, didn’t work out that way because the garment just kept getting bigger and I was nowhere near the end of the yarn (think it took 650m and the Lola was 800m). Nevertheless I am super pleased with the outcome. I’m going to make another using the pattern in my head from a whirl. It was incredibly difficult to photograph the outcome, so at some point in the future when I get to wear it I’ll grab a photo! #crochet #crochetersofinstagram #crochetaddict #crochetersofig #lolayarn #gradientyarn #crochetop #crochetteacher @ Perth, Western Australia See more

16.01.2022 Working on something ‘experimental’ where I just wanted to see the effect of randomly selecting sock yarns, some speckled, some sparkle and knitting with them. Size 5 needles and three strands. Love the effect so much I will embark on the bigger project (ok, so I’ve already got seventy million projects on the go but I like diversity ). All of these are bits of yarn left over from other projects, all mine hand dyed, except my absolute favourite from @hedgehogfibres (forgotten the name), I bought it in Amsterdam about three years ago and made a friend a shawl with it (which I envied a lot, but I really like the friend, so...), I’m stoked that I have managed to honour this gorgeous tiny little bit that I had left in a beanie. #knitting #sockyarn #sparklesockyarn #specklesockyarn #beanie #knittedbeanies #iloveyarn #handyedyarn

15.01.2022 Knitting a swatch is boring as heck, but always always always swatch. Because I guessed I could use size 4 and it turns out I need size 5 needles I’ve been trying to finish off three other WIP’s before I started on the sweater for my sons 30th birthday (who is 30 in 2 days and he won’t even get a sleeve because I’m a slow knitter and he lives in another hemisphere ) but I keep going back to one of the WIP’s cos we have unfinished business and it haunts my dreams. #knitting #sweaterknitting #tensionswatch

15.01.2022 Visible mendings on a very old cashmere and much loved sweater. I get attached to things #visiblemending #repair #rewear #relove

12.01.2022 I am aiming to be the IKB of the knitting world. I have an idea and then I just go for it. I don’t follow a pattern, I just google techniques and try them out. Here’s the biggy, I’m not afraid to be wrong, or make mistakes. It’s just knitting. It’s not the Clifton Suspension Bridge. In this little beauty I used *unidentified yarn from stash* which I think is a cotton mix (we’ll find out when we wash it eh? ) and I did some fancy bits (the black grey) in #scheepjess...tonewashed (which was an absolute dream to work with and I’ll definitely be doing more stuff with that!). In this process I learned #germanshortrows and #icord the rest was more of less knitting in the round, #stockingette I’ve had a lot of time on my hands, which is good because my knitting technique is S-L-O-W but I’m stoked with the outcome and can wear it now! #knitting #knittersofinstagram #iloveyarn #nopattern #yarn #scheepjes #learnsomethingnew See more

11.01.2022 First day of spring in Perth, Western Australia and true to form it’s been raining and a howling gale all day. I was trying to take a decent photograph outside of this jumper I finished, but the weather had other ideas. Australia has some of the strictest regulations in place in terms of Covid. We are relatively case free here in WA, but we are banned from moving between states and forbidden to leave the country. So I made a jumper to send to my son in England because I... won’t be seeing him for a while and it’s coming into winter there I never realised why folk continue to knit sweaters for people when they can be bought so cheaply, but I realised doing this project that it’s a transfer of love, it’s like a hug in the form of a jumper. #knitting #knittedsweater #knittedwithlove #kids #love #family #covidprojects #lockdownskills See more

11.01.2022 First rule of block club, always block. It defines the stitches, it helps with the drape and it helps reshape. I don’t overstretch it, I just let the natural elasticity of the yarn lead the way. This shawl was a very quick diversion from other projects I’ve got on, I made it up as I went along and added my favourite edging of picots The yarn is my hand dyed (almost rejected until @myfabricology spotted it and fell in love), sock yarn. No need to adjust your eyes, it DOES have a tincy wincy bit of sparkle. #crochet #crocheter #crochetersofinstagram #crochetshawl #sparkle #speckledyarn #sockyarn #handyedyarn #gift

10.01.2022 Gifting myself time to play with fabrics this morning I’ve got a couple of pairs of jeans Im repairing and applying sashiko to, for a supermodel over east I love it when I’m given zero instructions or allowed to get creative I get all my fabrics from @myfabricology, I’m guessing the ones in the picture may not be in stock anymore, but her range is extraordinary and she’s online too! If you’re in the Perth area and you wish to know how to fix clothes with visible mend...ing techniques I have a workshop listed on my Eventbrite page, $30 because it’s subsided by the @citystirlingwa Get fixing and save your stuff from landfill. #repair #rewear #relove #sashiko #slowstitch #slowstichingworkshop #jeans #perthquilters #linen #denim #rippedjeans #ifyoucanfixitsaveit #perthworkshops See more

10.01.2022 Met this character when I was out on a bush walk today. I noticed his beanie and struck up a conversation. I love that about hikes, you meet all sorts of interesting folk. I forgot to get his name, but hopefully he gives me a follow and can glory in his starring role on my feed. #bushwalking #hikes #bibtrack #kalamunda #rockypool #beanie #knitting #crochet

02.01.2022 If I could knit and walk like @knitwitsandyarns life would be sweet. But I can’t, I have to watch my footing and also I like stopping for coffee! Life in the south west of Australia is pretty sweet at the moment. #capetocape #walking #veganknitter
