08.01.2022 Got a hundred new chooks last night (Thanks again Duncan’s Poultry), no photos yet because it was dark when they arrived. Popped them in the Chook shed still in their crates so they could wake up to the outdoors. Having been raised in a barn, I was looking forward to them enjoying the dirt and the grass and the sun ...... but now this morning it’s really dark and overcast and raining . Don’t get me wrong, loving the rain, but I hope the poor little ones aren’t freaked out and wanna go home!!

08.01.2022 Pretty sure I have posted this before, but just a little reminder. Yes at times, though not that often, our Cluck Nuts yolks may be a little pale as we do not use any colouring additive at all. We try to stay as natural as possible. The girls all free range in the paddock, they get chicken feed and vegetable scraps along with an abundance of flora and bugs. So it is important to remember that the one and only thing that denotes egg yolk colour is what they eat. So the egg yo...lk colour will vary from yellow to bright orange, depending on what plants are growing or flowering or gone to seed. And which bugs these plants attract for the girls to eat. And then it all depends on the level of carotenoids in these foods. Have a read of the attached story. It’s really interesting. Take specific note where it says it is not natural to have consistently bright yellow or orange yolks and if this is occurring it would strongly suggest that your supermarket eggs have had food colourings added. The hay fever completely kicked my butt and... it took forever as I navigated and removed any hazards........ But totally worth it. So much neater and more accessible for the girls See more

06.01.2022 Very productive morning. Upgraded drinker stand from a plastic container lid and an old rusty saucepan, to a cement slab and stands. Two buckets now, a float in one and linked to each other, fed from an IBC tank on the higher side of the paddock. And an outlet to the sexlink breeder pens. . Also additional nest boxes painted black so they’re nice and dark inside. All food troughs modified so chooks can’t get in and poop in food, fully sheltered from the rain, metal roosts at the base so they can reach more easily. And fresh bedding in all nest boxes and the sexlink breeder pens.
