17.01.2022 2020 is up and rolling. Come and share 2020 planning time with others in ministry. There will be discussion times, brainstorming, prayer and personal planning time as we look to the needs of our individual communities and shape the year ahead. Andrew Prior will lead us through what lies ahead in the lectionary for year ‘A’ and introduce us to the book of Matthew. We will go out and share lunch together as we begin this new year in ministry. It is intended that this will be a supportive and collegial time together and you may well pick up a few gems from what is happening in other communities or find someone with whom to collaborate. It will be great to begin the year off together. Click here for the full details: https://www.cmla.org.au/events/planning-day/

16.01.2022 On Sunday 4th August, CMLA held its first Music Afternoon at Brougham Place Uniting Church. The afternoon was a huge success with around 150 people attending. Singers and musicians from Pilgrim Uniting, Athelstone Uniting, The Grove Uniting, Burundi choirs from the International Pentecostal Prophetic Church (Elizabeth Grove), Fijian Fellowship Group (Vermont) and CMLA all contributed to a wide variety of worship songs and in various languages as well as English. It was a wonderful multicultural sharing experience and a true reflection of the diversity of the Uniting Church of Australia. Many thanks to Mandy Hutchinson who's efforts made the afternoon a reality, and a special thanks to Paul Goh for his help in making it such a multicultural event.

15.01.2022 Worship in Times of Isolation We find ourselves in strange and unchartered territories. As the church we are still called to care for one another and to worship together. We are the body of Christ. God is present with us and still we worship. The Centre for Music, Liturgy and the Arts is gathering resources for worship at home during times of isolation. There are already some available on the website: Tethered to God (a lectionary based worship service for March 22), Worship ...with Your Backyard, and prayers for times of isolation. You are welcome to use these resources with small group, at home or with your community. You may also find that other ideas and activities come to you and you create other resources that may help others. Feel free to send them through to add to what is offered. Check out: https://www.cmla.org.au/reso/worship-in-times-of-isolation/ Prayers and blessings on our church as we respond theologically, pastorally, prayerfully and practically at this time.

14.01.2022 Sink Like a Stone It’s amazing what happens in 9 months! After sharing in the experience of CMLA’s conference last year, Libby Byrne and Malcolm Gordon, key presenters at the conference, have continued to collaborate and brought into being a beautiful artwork. Libby, a gifted artist and theologian, and Malcolm, a talented musician and minister, each enhanced the work of the other in Sink Like a Stone. This piece draws upon the artwork Libby painted in community that was shap...ed by communal reflection throughout the conference. Libby then created a series exploring the themes. Malcolm’s song, inspired by reflection and the time together, explores the transformative waters and the storm, peace and rest offered within them. As this strange year of adaptation, change, and challenges unfolds, Sink Like a Stone, offers each of us an opportunity for reflection on how we are shaped and an invitation to renewal. Malcolm and Libby’s collaboration reminds us that community draws new creativity and reflection; stirs us to new thinking and opens possibilities. What a gift it is to share in life together. We are delighted when the Centre can facilitate such creativity and innovation amongst our community of artists.
